When Horse Law was first published in 1990, its original purpose was to provide a simple guide to the law for the horse owner as well as providing an initial reference book for solicitors or barristers who found themselves involved in cases concerning horses. The legal profession has changed considerably in the last 10 years; the trend is towards specialization and consequently there are a growing number of equine-law specialists.
