Wraithborne
Nick moved his family to his childhood home in hopes of salvaging his marriage. His wife, a talented artist, pops pills to escape the pain caused by multiple miscarriages and his decade-long affair with his high school sweetheart. Even though the woman is dead, she still continues to haunt Nick, in the form of the son he never knew he had, Remy. The crumbling estate next to their home is supposed to be haunted. Even though it frightens her, Vada can't stay away. Especially when the handsome, charming caretaker, Beau, begins to show her the attention her husband fails to show her. He promises her passion, affection, fulfillment in every way...and an unimaginable power, if she'll join his cult. She resists both the man and the offer, even as Remy begins to behave in frightening ways. A monster stalks them and terrible hallucinations torment Vada. Are they products of her years of drug abuse, or supernatural warnings? Can she find the strength to save her husband from a terrible fate, or will she embrace the power Beau offers her?

Wraithborne by A.D. Roland is a creep and entertaining read from beginning to end and a refreshing change to my normal reading line-up.
Wraithborne was more than just a great surprise, it fulfilled my mood for something creepy and delivered more than I was expecting! My subconscious was filled to the brim with crazy and it ran with it! Just what I want from a horror, something that digs in and takes hold.
Vada is an artist married to a police officer and they have a very interesting relationship. Vada's pill addiction pulls her under, but the real horror comes from Nick's past. The psychological aspects of an addict surrounded by supernatural occurrences created a fascinating view into her mind. I loved the diverse characters that lined the pages and the ultra creepy kid that gave me the total heeby-jeebies. When the author starts feeding you pieces of the entire history and backstory of all the people involved, it drives the story up a cliff where the author proceeds to push you right off the ledge.
I loved the unexpected ending and everything that came before! If you are a fan of that creepy Stephen King feel, Wraithborne is one you should pick up!

Remember as a teenager how we told horror stories around the campfire? How we snuck in to watch Amityville Horror at the theater? This book brings those memories back to life. Along with memories of the boogy-man under the bed, the shadows moving around in the corners, and that intense feel of someone or something watching you and waiting.
With the intense detail that Roland went into, I was sucked into the story and felt like a part of everything. Excellent character development and an intensely unnerving plot will make any horror fan love this book.

What happens if you put together The Omen-It-What Lies Beneath and Rosemary's baby? You get this book. It is a very creepy read but good. I needed something different and this book gave it to me.
