Daisy Meadows is the pseudonym used for the four writers of the Rainbow Magic children's series: Narinder Dhami, Sue Bentley, Linda Chapman, and Sue Mongredien. Rainbow Magic features differing groups of fairies as main characters, including the Jewel fairies, Weather fairies, Pet fairies, Petal fairies, and Sporty fairies.
Narinder Dhami was born in Wolverhampton, England on November 15, 1958. She received a degree in English from Birmingham University in 1980. After having taught in primary and secondary schools for several years she began to write full-time. Dhami has published many retellings of popular Disney stories and wrote the Animal Stars and Babes series, the latter about young British girls of Asian origin. She lives in Cambridge, England with her husband and cats.
Sue Bentley was born in Northampton, England. She worked in a library after completing her education and began writing for children once her own began school. Bentley is the author of the Magic Kitten, Magic Puppy, and S Club series and lives in Northamptonshire.
Linda Chapman has written over 50 children's fiction books, including the following series: My Secret Unicorn, Stardust, Not Quite a Mermaid, and Unicorn School. She lives in Leicestershire with her husband and daughters.
Sue Mongredien was born in 1970 and grew up in Nottingham, England. She has published over 100 children's books, including the following series: The Adventures of Captain Pugwash, The Magic Key, Frightful Families, and Oliver Moon. She has also contributed many titles to the Sleepover Club series and written picture books. Mongredien created the Royal Ballet School Diaries under the pen name Alexandra Moss. She lives with her family in Bath, England.
This is another "Special Edition" book in the Rainbow Magic series by the group of authors who go by the name Daisy Meadows. It's a fun series, especially for young girls who are starting to read chapter books. This story (obviously) has a Valentine's theme and would be a very appropriate read during the holiday.
Both of our girls read many of the books in this series and they really loved them. They have pretty much moved on to more substantial stories now (thank heavens!), but I am thrilled that they were so eager to read these books. They will still occasionally read one of these "Special Edition" books, especially since I bought several of them as presents in line with the various holidays they celebrate. I read this one before donating it to our local library.
I thought it was actually one of the better books, with a bit of drama and conflict that isn't normally part of these saccharine-sweet stories. Overall, it was a quick, entertaining read and was a particular favorite for our girls.
When Juliet The Valentine Fairy has her magical valentine's day gifts stolen by Jack Frost, the love-inspired holiday is turned topsy-turvy as everyone is at odds with one another.
Best friends, Rachel and Kristy agree to help Juliet find the stolen rose, card, and candy that will make Valentine's Day special once again. Once again, they find that Jack Frost's goblins are behind the evil thefts, but find a way to trick them out of their stolen goods. And, all is well again in loveland!
Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic. Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies. On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon! If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!
Storywise, this is a pretty typical book in the Rainbow Magic Special Edition series. The fairy lost three magic items, which Rachel and Kirsty have to find. The goblins are also looking for the three items, and the girls trick the goblins a few times. What makes this book stand out is that the magic items are all loved-based, since it's a Valentine's Day book. Without love magic, all humans and goblins are constantly getting mad and fighting. It was very different, to see Kirsty and Rachel fight with each other for the entire book. Three times, their fighting gets so bad, Juliet has to step in and convince them to stop. I think the girls have only fought once in the past 80 plus books, so this is a definite change of pace for the normally saccharine series.
My 7-year-old absolutely adores Rainbow Magic Fairies, and we have read dozens of these books together. I am particularly fond of these special edition books that wrap up the story in three sections instead of over the course of several books. This book has a Valentine's theme and is focused on returning three special objects to Juliet. I was surprised to read that Kirsty and Rachel, the two main characters, were arguing and had such bad feelings throughout most of the book. In so many other books, their fairy connection protects them from the trouble Jack Frost causes. Overall, the important themes of friendship, perseverance, and loyalty prevail, which help the girls complete all their tasks.
Another fairy book finished. This one had some good points on relationships (family, friends, all kinds) and how sometimes things may get crazy or out of order, but can still be ok in the end. Great talk topic to be able to have with my daughter as we read through this together.
My students have been devouring the Fairy series, and I thought I would try one out. This looks like it is just right for kids who are moving from early grade picture books to beginning chapter books. I will be recommending these to my growing readers for sure!
My daughter really enjoyed this book and loves this series. Its great to watch her really enjoy a book.
For me this book seemed very similar to the Christmas one (3 holiday related items stolen by Jack Frost and the goblins that Kirsty and Rachel have to find and return to Fairyland), except a different fairy and its Valentine's day. The authors style is not overly imaginative or brilliant in comparison to some other children's books that we've read together.
But the important thing is that my daughter likes the book, and that she's interested in reading. So the 4 stars are based on her rating :)
Jack Frost and his goblins have stolen some magical treats. Kirsty and Rachel found Juliet the Valentine Fairy and she wanted them to help. At the end, Kirsty told one goblin that she wanted to give the magical treats to her best friend. So the goblin cried because he told Kirsty that he always fights with his goblin friends. I liked the book because it reminds me of Valentines day. In first grade I gave a valentines day card!
In this book, I liked how the friends aren't getting along because the box of candy hearts is lost and they have to find it with the help of Juliet, the Valentine Fairy. They have to find it so that Valentine's Day will be saved. And you'll have to read the book to find out... this made me excited for Valentine's Day next week!
It was good to read this book now because it's almost Valentine's Day. I was glad to find another Rainbow Magic book that I hadn't read. It's another great book by Daisy Meadows because I love fairies and she has really good writing.
Juliet the fairy lost all of her valentines presents -- Jack Frost stole them. Valentine's Day was almost ruined. But Christy and Rachel saved the day. They found all the valentines presents. I liked the book because it was about fairies and love.

My five year old daughter really enjoyed this book. This is the first book in a long time that she was very excited for me to read every night. If you’re looking for a series to try and hook your daughter into reading, this may be a great start.
