Product book contains a shape-shifting bodyguard, sizzling sex scenes, supernatural lilac mist, swordfighting and heartbreaking sacrifices. No jaguars were harmed in the writing of this story.
INEZ KELLEY was born and bred in the mountains of West Virginia. She currently resides there with her lumberjack husband, their teenage drama queen, Spawnetta, and the Demolition Duo – Damien and his twin, the Omen.
Favorite Quote: A word formed in her mind. A word she had no purpose for but it teased her, made her want to explore every meaning of it. It was an action and a thing, a request and a response, a thrill and a fear. The word was desire.
Prince Taric has always had a protector, a guardian literally within him. From the moment of his birth, his mother magically created Myla, a woman who lives inside of him and is to stay with him all his life. When danger is imminent, Myla is able to come out of the scar on his side and take a human form. She is lethal, deadly, and will keep Taric safe at all costs. When she is inside of him she feels his emotions and can sense when danger is near.
On one such occasion, Taric is getting a bit frisky with a bar maid. Unbeknownst to him this bar maid is an assassin and just before a knife goes in his back, Myla appears to save his life. But the knife cuts Myla. This is the first time Taric has seen her bleed. He suddenly realizes he can not just take this woman for granted. And a “woman” is what he sees now. All of a sudden he sees her for the beauty for what she is. Myla sees Taric as a grown man now, and something in their odd relationship changes. Myla knows if she stays in the human realm for too long, her powers start to diminish. Devoted to protect Taric, she refuses to stay out for too long. Taric can’t get his mind off Myla, but also knows as the prince and next in line for the throne, he must have an heir so the legacy doesn’t turn over to his family’s nemesis. Knowing Myla is not actually real person, she most likely would not be able to bear children.
When Taric’s family is threatened by their rivals, seeped in revenge, a battle is on the horizon. Myla has much to do to keep Taric safe, and Taric has much to do to convince Myla they are destined to be together.
Myla by Moonlight is the first I have ever read by Inez Kelley and I was pleasantly surprised. Taric is definitely an alpha male that likes his women, but when he finally sees Myla for what she is, his lust turns fiercely towards her. Their romance is very hot and Inez Kelly devotes many pages to it. I love that it is not rushed, and that she really draws out each scene giving us plenty of detail to their sexual escapades.
Taric and Myla have a unique relationship because she has been a part of him his entire life. She has been an adult his entire life, so she has watched him grow into the man he is today. I was a bit thrown off by Taric’s sudden interest in her. Not only his interest but he starts questioning why she is his guardian to begin with. It just seemed like he should have been questioning this his whole life – why now? He does ask himself the same question – wondering if he really sees her now because he noticed she was bleeding and maybe there is a chance she won’t always be there. I also thought her powers were not always clearly outlined. I never quite understood exactly what she could “see” while inside Taric. Just emotions? Sometimes it felt like more. Later, we learn she can foreshadow too, which seems like it would come in handy at all times.
Overall though, Myla by Moonlight has a solid villain and a very sweet, sexy, and at times heartbreaking romance. I look forward to her next book, Salome at Sunrise out this month with Carina Press.
This ia tagged as erotica, but in my opinion erotica is something else! There was some hot scenes, but I cannot in all sincerity call them erotic: they're tastefully done and almost bordered on pruple prose.
That said, I enjoyed the book very much.
The tone of the writing is very fairy-tale-like. It is alsmot formal, but I liked it: it was perfect for this kind of story!
This is a romantic fantasy, where magic and magical beings are involved. I could say that they were the core of the story: the heroine is a magical being and her being magical is very, very important in the story!
Also very important part is the knightly honour and court ceremony.
The hero is a prince, heir to the throne. He's an almost perfect picture of a fairy tale knight: he's honorable, he's ready to sacrifice his life for his kingdom, he's smart and, obviously, beautiful! What is not contemplated in the knightly romance is that he's also hot and lusty! LOL
The heroine is his magical-guardian: she can shapeshift and she's part of his body when incorporeal. She was created to keep him safe and she's very good at that. She's also very beautiful in an un-earthly way.
Even if he knoew her from his birth he never thought of her as a woman until she's wounded and he realizes that she can be killed.
One thought after another and he also realizes that she's very sexy and stir his blood! *wink, wink*
And so the story starts...
I don't want to spil your enjoyment, so I'll leave it here, but, believe me, it is well worth reading! Try and let me know! :)
I loved Myla by Moonlight. Ms. Kelly transported me to a richly detailed world, where wars wage, magic flows and love scorches the pages, the virtual pages that is . This story is beautifully told and doesn’t release its hold on you until the very end. It has something for everyone, romance, action, shape-sifters, trechery, sword play, and heroic sacrifices. I got lost in its magic on page one and I’m secretly hoping (well I guess not so secretly since I just put this out in the web universe-lol) that the author is hard at work on another story featuring this world and some of it’s characters.
I loved the world building and the idea of this book. It had a good story, interesting characters, good writing ... don't know what was missing for the 4 stars
but nevertheless I enjoyed it and will read the next book as well
I've had this book on my tbr shelf for a long time. Finally got some free time and decided to pick it up. I ended really enjoying it, and I've already bought the other books in the series.
The book opens with the death of a Queen. The Queen is a powerful sorceress, but all her magic can't prevent her own death from childbirth. Knowing her son is not only the heir to the throne, but the last of his line,, and that evil stalks his door.. The queen uses the last of her magic to call for aid, a spirit, a guardian, to watch over and protect him...Bound to his soul and his service by a mothers love and magic.
The H has spent his whole life, knowing he carries a guardian in the mark upon his chest. He has always viewed the powerful Myla as a spell, the same way one would view a pouch of herbs or a potion. It isn't until Myla is wounded defending him, that he begins to question all he knows. If she can bleed, does that mean she is alive? So sets off the journey of our H/h, though bloody battles, count intrigue, and evil massinations.
This is a high fantasy story, taking place in a fantasy world, with a shaping changing h, a warrior prince and a heavy dose of magic. Deff recommend
I love this world and the magic of the characters. Awesome feel to the fantasy.
Inez Kelly goes out of her way to bath the reader in a rich tapestry of visual and visceral images in this beautiful fantasy of love and war. When the crown prince falls in love with his mystical guardian, he must find a way to make her human. The resulting conflict is resolved with stunning action and heart wrenching emotion.
The bottom line is this is a wonderful love story that will keep you turning the pages to very end.
