Saving Noah

Rate this book
Dexter Krispin arrived in the small Kansas town of Schicksal with one thing on his finishing his doctorial thesis. He hoped getting away from his hectic life in Pittsburgh would allow him to concentrate on the long overdue paper and to forget about his last lover. Life-long Schicksal resident, Noah Stoffel, has managed to keep his sexuality a secret. Yet, after one look at the dark-haired newcomer, he knows his life in the sleepy town will never be the same. But more than Noah's desire for privacy stands between him and Dexter. For years, the residents of Schicksal have been hiding a horrific secret, one that takes Dexter mere days to uncover and expose...a secret that could destroy-or heal-them all.

I liked this book it had a very unique plot device that is pretty rare. I would have rated it more accept that Noah and Dexter don't really have enough time together (about 24 hours of actual time spent together) before they are madly in love and completely devoted to each other in ways that completely change both of their lives.

I know that is a standard Carol Lynne trait but in this case it was even more rushed than usual considering some of the issues facing Noah and then Dexter. I did not feel the connection between them because as the reader I simply did not have enough time with them together to feel it.

Even though I didn't catch the connection between Dexter and Noah I *did* have enough time with Noah to fall a little in love with him myself. Poor kid. The townsfolk were awesome too once we get a bit of their perspective. But not letting Dexter into the loop on the problem was problematic for me as well. Made for a nice reveal but it was awkward and hard to justify.

Noah is an inexperience and insecure young man due to his parents. While they were not bad parents they lacked the warmth and ability to show their love for their son. They had him when they were older which could excuse it to a point. Noah even acknowledges his mother's bigotry, and from what i understood selfish and only found faults in everything he did or say. His father seemed more indifferent to Noah' feelings, which could be construed as emotional neglect. The only time he left his home was to go to college and that was cut short when he had to move back into town.

Yeah i know getting all psychologycal here, but with the story revolving so heavily on the characters psyche it's to be expected. Which brings me to Dexter who is planning on becoming a psychologyst himself and because of that was able to understand Noah better than anyone else. He's able to read Noah pretty well and tries to find ways to make him happy, raise his self steem and make him face his inner demons. It really made me like his character quite a lot.

I understand why people will have mixed feelings about the story though. There's an underlined mystery from the beginning of the story and it's not until the twist almost at the end that like a puzzle, suddenly all of those little things where i questioned their purpose had a lot more meaning. The town's people were as neglectful as the parents, but i kind of got the feeling that the story was leaning towards a sequel so i may change my mind later on.

The only person that I like in this book in Noah.
He is someone who's psyche broke at the death of his mentally ill mother. It's was well write and I like his reaction when he had to face the 'truth'. He is fragile but not weak.

As for Dexter...I don't like people who are not frank. He was in this town to study the people and it's was not done by altruism.
His reaction face to Colin, his stalker were egoist and selfish. He is glad that Colin start to stalk someone else. Wow, what a intelligent reaction to have (I'm ironic here, in case someone didn't understand), especially for a future psy. Does anyone don't know, even with all the cop and doctor t.v. series, (point again that he is a future psy) that this kind of personality feature only increase.

And the people in this town, grrrr...Their pitiful explication about why they play this 'game' with Noah was not credible, plausible yes (little town tend to keep for themselves), but the argumentation was definitively not credible. How much time did they think that it's was going to work? Noah needed professional help. That's was the good think to do.

Dexter Krispin is in small town Schicksal to finish is doctorate not to catch the eye of the local farm boy Noah, no matter how rugged or how just his type he was. Despite the warnings from his aunt to look elsewhere for his fun, add in his last lovers determination to be with him and he should know better than to pursue Noah, but – Dexter‘s eyes has already seen what they want and they want Noah.

Noah is the good boy, gone better, living on a farm going nowhere with his mother and his dog as sole company, he makes ends meet by doing odd chores daily for the local community. His sexuality has never been a problem for him but knowing he lives in a small town and his mothers less than forgiving ways – he has never come out and only a handful of people knows his leaning. When Dexter makes a rather forceful come on how could Noah resist, after all small town Schicksal is not known for it’s abundance of young svelte men to choose from.

One night is all Dexter asks for and one night is all Noah agreed to , but that one night not only open Noah’s eyes to a reality that he has closed himself off from for many years – but it sets Dexter on a path of self discovery that he would never imagine himself capable of.

This is my first book by Ms. Lynne where she collaborate with a co-author and it was a little less sexual tense as I am used to from her – but the emotional high was just right if not more with the very creative and surprising plot line.

Ms. Cole is a new to me author, but after this I will be looking out for more of her work.

That said the storyline started off slow and easy, probably too easy if I was honest and I remember thinking is this it and then came the twist and I was caught but good. The characters were not overly developed and in some respect I think it worked better that way – I didn’t need to know more about them than was given – the plot was such that it was all about the future and what would happen after Dex and Noah meet .

I am a huge fan of Carol Lynne work – so there is little that she can do wrong in terms of content, however this is a softer Lynne voice – it was nice to see and I enjoyed it as it was a marked differences from her usual harried paced love match between her men. There is an edge to this book than borders on creepy – but I probably justify it by small town involvement and the fact that the unexpected always happens in these sort of environment – the community either close ranks or the guilty party becomes table fodder for weeks if not generation, luckily for Noah, Schicksal is a community that closed ranks and will protect their own at all cost.

The biggest niggle in SAVING NOAH for me was probably the cover art – not liking it at all and some issues were dealt with a little too quickly to be realistic, that however took nothing away from my enjoyment of this book.

Fans of Ms. Lynne's work – must read, Cash Cole – if her partnership gives us this side of Lynne, I am very eager to try more of her work…

I was disappointed in this book. The good news is that it has an unusual plot device and was interesting for that reason. The bad news is -- I could not buy into Noah and Dex falling into love that quickly, given their differences. The happy ending was heartwarming and I did like the secondary characters -- Ruby and Cora were awesome. But -- not a book I'll re-read.

3.5* A friend bought me this as a prezzie, but it was Saving Noah by Lucinda Berry copy that I really wanted. I wouldn't of picked this book for myself, but, it was an ok quick read. A steamy story, that breaks your heart.

I almost gave this one a four, but I settled with a 3.5. I really liked Dex and Noah. Dex, a city boy, has come to stay with his aunt in a very small town. Soon after arriving, he meets Noah, a genuinely sweet young man who works hard to take care of his ailing mother. It's hard not to like Noah. He has sacrificed his own happiness in order to honor his father's dying wish to look after his mom. He's naive, completely inexperienced, and loved by his entire community. He's a character that you just have to root for from the very beginning.

While the premise of the story is interesting, a lot happens in only 101 pages, and it's hard to suspend disbelief enough to think that Dex and Noah know each other long enough to fall deeply in love. I'm not saying that just because of the length of the story. The two face some heavy issues that seem to be cleared up much too quickly. I won't go into what they are because the entire plot hinges on a twist that I think the author telegraphed a bit early on in the story. I will say that I can understand why some readers didn't enjoy the story as much I did. This book had a creepy vibe, at times, that is not typical of Ms. Lynne's usual work. So, if you've read the Cattle Valley books or the Campus Cravings series, you might me disturbed by the different feel of this story. I've never read anything by Lynne's co-author, so I can't comment about what is typical writing for Cole.

What a horrible story! The writing in this book if fine, it's the plot that had me creeped the hell out. I mean this story is Norman Bates Psycho creepy. It kinda had the feeling of that old story The Lottery. The town in this story seemed to be sick and twisted and scary. Noah was the lottery winner who they decided to "save" in their own special creepy way.

I imagine the writer of this book thought they were being clever; but I like reading romance that is romantic and this story made me so upset, sad, creeped out. Yuck!

This book was like a mashup of Twilight Zone and Jane Eyre. I feel terrible after reading this book. I like my romance stories to make me feel warm and fuzzy when they finish. This book just left me feeling that life sucks and is unfair and that people suck and are selfish and that the world is a terrible, terrible place. I hate when books make me sad.

Although I didn't like the plot or the characters the book did have some nice moments, they just get outweighed by the horror. I bet some people liked the very thing that disgusted me though, c'est la vie.

This is the story of Noah and Dex. Noah is hard not to love, but I never really get a good read on Dex in this story. The town was a little weird, and I know we were looking for a shocking reveal- which I had figured out pretty early- but really that took a little suspension of disbelief. It was hard to fathom the way things were handled or the speed in which Noah & Dex fell for each other. All in all, not a bad read. And a quick read.

It was...umm...different. The love story is very insta-forever-and-ever. And let's just say that there are huge mental health issues that make the insta-love between Dexter and Noah even less believable, not that I find that type of plot development reasonable even when it's among two characters whose struggles are of the more mundane variety.

Noah is so easy to fall in love with. He is one character I instantly loved. His story is sad and came so out of left field for me. I didn't see the events coming at all!! Dex and Noah are a wonderful couple!

Recomendable
