The singing of carols is as much a part of the traditional Christmas as the exchanging of gifts. Carols bring back memories of childhood, for many they express the wonder of God coming among us.

This book is the companion volume to Christopher Idle's book, Famous Hymns and their Stories. This book brings together a selection of Christmas hymns, some old, such as Hark the glad sound, God rest ye merry gentlemen, A great and mighty wonder, the Coventry Carol, Christians awake, and Away in a manger, and some newer, such as Little Donkey, The Virgin Mary had a baby boy, Shepherds came, Christ the world's light now is waking, Small wonder the star, and How dark was the night of his coming. Each of the carols comes with its own background story.

I never knew there were so many Christmas carols I didn’t know. I had to look up many of them on Spotify.
