I am from South Africa and I live in a city called Pretoria. I am a Chemical Engineer by day and a children’s book writer by night. I am married to a wonderful man and we have a beautiful two year old daughter called Allegra. I love writing stories for my daughter, who is a constant inspiration.
When it comes to writing, my daughter is my biggest inspiration. I love seeing her face light up with excitement when we sit down to read a book before bedtime. My daughter was fascinated by giraffes after we went on a safari trip in late 2012. This planted the seed for my picture book called How Andrew Got His Spots which is a rhyming adaptation of a story I originally wrote in the third grade. My daughter has since grown into a healthy two year old with a passion for aircraft which was the inspiration for writing Goodnight, Sleep tight, What a Wonderful Flight.
My kids had a fun time trying to guess the name of that train...They were never right, but we had a lot of laughs coming up with silly names before we read the name the author gave the train! (Mind you, these are given names, not technical names or anything, so we got pretty silly by the end!!)
This is a lovely book about the various types of trains there are and what cargo they carry. Any child who loves trains will love this story which also has fab illustrations too.
I got this book for my great nephew. He loves trains. I am not sure if he would like this one or not, I have not had the opportunity to read it to him. The front of the trains with the faces may scare him. I am not sure. He likes some train cartoons but he doesn't like Thomas yet. He is 2 ½ years old. When I get a chance to read this to him I will update my review with how he liked it.
For each train the author describes the train and then asks, “Can you guess who?” The guessing for what each train is is a little annoying. You would have to read the book over and over to a child for them to be able to answer the question, “Can you guess who?” for each of the trains. It is not like guess what fruit this is or what color or something that would be known by the child.
The story sorta rhymes, but not really.
The drawings are interesting and well done but, as I said, I am not sure about the faces on the front of the trains, they seem a little creepy to me and some young children may be scared by that.
It was a really cute book. The pictures were great! I would like to show it to my nephew, who likes trains, and see what he thinks. There were a couple of things that bothered me about the book that I think would bother children who like trains and know something about them. One: the cars need to be called by the correct name i.e. tanker cars instead of tank cars. Two: I think it would be frustrating to a kid to guess the names of the trains on a first read without having a reference page, or something, with the different kinds of engines and their names. It could be a couple of pages right before the story starts.
Guessing game book for toddlers and preschoolers who are enamored with trains. All the engines have faces and names, much like those tin the Thomas the Tank Engine series. A particular type of train is presented with a rhyme riddle, and the child is asked to identify that train. Freight, coal, mail, and passenger are some of the trains mentioned. The illustrations are well done, but the colors are washed out and some of the faces are unnatural. While most of the rhymes work, a few of them are off.
All in all children in the three to five year old age bracket who love trains will probably enjoy the book even though they might not be able to guess the names of all the trains.
I found this to be a very educational and yet a very fun ebook that I would like to recommend for kids from Toddlers and up to say 8 years of age and for five stars for such a beautifully illustrated ebook. Don't you think though it might be much easier on the one's eyes who will be reading this if the print size was larger than is? Just a thought Louise! By Angela
Name That Train Rhyming very colorful children's book about the cars that make up a train. Love the front of the engine as each as depicted what they carry by what's on the front of the 1st train. Some are silly and are some are common. Guessing game as questions about the next train on the next page has clues. Website listed for other works by the author.
My boys both love trains, and loved this book! My 4 year absolutely adored it. It had great rhymes and a good tempo to keep his attention. He loved trying to guess what kind of train it was from the description.
Thomas the Tank Engine fans and train-loving toddlers and young children will enjoy this story about the various types of train engines and the human names given to them. The artwork is especially nice.
Cute little book especially for toddlers and early grades. Discovered the sound effects after several readings with grand children. Interesting illustrations. "Chugga-chugga-choo-choo." ;-)
