Ivy Banners has just returned home to Fortune with her tail tucked firmly between her legs. Her career has been put on hold (indefinitely), her family think it's the perfect time for her to settle down with a husband and a baby (to her horror) and her relationship status is less than ideal (okay, she's heartbroken).
Nash Peeters is one of her oldest friends. He's the boy who shoved worms down her pants when she was a kid, the boy who helped her cause mischief when they were teenagers, the boy who taught her everything she needed to know about climbing trees and kidnapping gnomes. He's her best friend, her partner in crime, and now he's her roommate too. Oh, and he's also very, very heartbroken. So when Nash suggests the two of them share a no strings night of hot rebound sex, it seems like the perfect solution.
What could go wrong with that?
Because Ivy and Nash, they're too awesome to let a little thing like sex ruin their friendship. They're not going to fall for each other, they're not going to develop feelings for each other and make things weird between them. No way, not them. Until. . .until they do.
Turns out falling in love. . .it's kind of unavoidable.
Jessica Roe is the author of The Guardians series, the Fortunate series and the Haven series.
She's the mother of one sassy daughter, two cats and the grumpiest rat you'll ever meet. She's a lover of rainclouds, Gandalf and all things fantasy. Also chocolate. Always chocolate. When she's not writing or reading she's works as a graphic designer.
She loves to write, and especially enjoys creating a character and seeing where they take the story (because we all know authors aren't REALLY in charge).
She likes strong, ready to fight, female characters who are just as capable at anything as the guys. She has a weird love for villains.
Don't hesitate to get in contact - she loves to hear from her readers!
I don't know why I wait so long in between books with this series as I always end up liking them a whole lot more than I expected. This one was no exception.Though friends to more isn't a topic I pick up very often (them having watched each other with other people not helping), I enjoyed this one a lot. The tension, conflict and resolution were just right and had me all tied up along with them. Can't wait to read more from this bunch.
I loved this one almost as much as i loved the first in the series, Because of Him! Ivy was brilliant - I loved the snarky way she thought - and Nash was a total swoon boat, even if he did act like an idiot sometimes. It's also set us up for Nathan's story, which I can't wait for!!!!
Gosh a best friends to lovers story that's part fun and swoon. I love Ivy totally see myself in her in a way, snarky, one of the guys, real and easy to get along with. Nash we all knew him as the older brother, an idiot at times but can be totally sweet. Yey more of Blair and Silver! This series is really up my alley, Jessica Roe's writing is just great. Can't eait for Nathan's book as set up and Zac hopefully!
I loved this book! The first book in this series is a top favorite of mine, so I was excited to hear there were going to be more books. This best-friends-to-lovers story was the perfect blend of sweetness and angst...I loved the main characters...Their banter and friendship was heartwarming. This author's writing is so effortless, it's easy to get caught up in these characters. I can't wait to read about the other couples that we get a glimpse of in this book!
Ivy, having returned to Fortunate from San Francisco after she's fired, moves in with one of her best friends, Nash, and the two immediately rekindle their friendship which was put on hold when she moved away. Although her career is in shambles, so loves being back home with the people she loves, especially since she's trying to overcome heartbreak. Heartbroken or not, she soon starts to see Nash in a different light - not the boy who she used to get in trouble with, but a man who she's not afraid to admit is pretty hot. Turns out, Nash is seeing Ivy in different light too. So when they experience a moment where they nearly kiss, Nash suggests they hook-up for one night of no-strings-attached-rebound sex in order to diffuse the tension and go back to being friends. And it works, until they soon start to fall into a relationship that neither are aware of until Ivy starts to realise that she's falling for Nash, but he might not be falling for her.
I thought I loved Blair and Silver's story, but I think this almost tops it! From book one, Nash has always been a character who's story I couldn't wait to read, so finally diving into this book was so great. Ivy, who we meet for the first time in this book, is such a fun character, and I loved her scenes with Nash, Nathan and Silver.
It's funny, I said in my review for The Kissing Booth that I was glad to read a story where two best friends don't end up falling in love. Well, this is the complete opposite and I loved every minute of it - Nash and Ivy have such a fun friendship that translated well to a romantic relationship. I kind of felt like Silver, Nathan, Blair and Jemma - friends watching these two people fall for one another and shipping them hard when they themselves couldn't see what was happening. IT WAS SO FREAKING CUTE but also very steamy at the same time.
Once again, I really enjoyed seeing the continuation of Silver and Blair, and Reid and Jemma's stories from the previous two installments, especially some super cute moments near the end that had my heart exploding - I love all these characters so much!! We also got to see the set-up for the next two books in the series, which was something we didn't get in the previous two books, so that has really made me excited for what's to come (although, I'm really bummed that Zac doesn't get his own book in the series as he's become such a interesting character).
Seriously, new adult romance fans get around this book and series! I feel like this will be the next book in the series that I choose to reread because it was cute and swoon-worthy and makes you feel all the feels. Jessica, you've done it again and I can't wait to dive into book #4!
I read this one super quickly , mostly because it features a favourite character of mine! - this would be Nash. But I also grew to enjoy Ivy's character. I will say I did like the progress of their oh-so-messed-up relationship, mainly because of Nash! But this one strays closer to the angst ridden romance story (that's bearable for me) that the first two touch but mostly stay away from. It was still a great, quick, and emotional read. Ivy and Nash totally balance each other out.
AHHH I have so many feelings!!!! But the predominate one is AWE, just so much fucking awe for this author. When I first read Because of Him I fell in love. With the author, with the writing, with the characters...just everything. I wasn't expecting it to become a series (I think I read somewhere that the author didn't even plan to? Maybe?) but I am extremely glad that she made it one. There are so many characters in here that need a story and I cannot wait for them! Especially Nathan's and Zac's, I predict that I will constantly checking out Jessica Roe's page and that my face will look something like this..
Back to this novel... Not gonna lie, the beginning (~7%) was a little rough for me, I HATE backstory when it's all thrown at you in the beginning, especially if it's from novels in the series I've read before. I understand it's purpose, I do...but it leaves me so freaking impatient. But once I got past that and got into the heart of Nash and Ivy's story I was in love. Both characters drew me in and I loved how no-nonsense Ivy was and how in-your-face Nash was, sometimes authors have to work hard to sell the chemistry, but there's so flowed so smoothly. Nothing felt forced and it was so much fun to read! I couldn't believe when I was 60% done. I should probably buy stock in Kleenex for how much of I freaking use when I read this books. I was bawling for the last 20%...so. many. feelings.
It was laugh-out-loud funny while still getting into serious things, and with two characters labeled "commitaphobes" I still found it surprisingly romantic. There's no doubt that if you have read the others in the series that you'll love this one. And if you haven't read this series then I don't know why you're still reading this because clearly you need to be reading Because of Him, like right now. Seriously why are you still reading?! ;p Anyways, I am extremely grateful that I found this author and I can't wait to see what comes next!!!
Also, really random but I LOVED Oran, and I kind hope he's in books to come and possibly get his own story. I don't know how or why that would happen but I'd love it. He was awesome!
I'm a fan of best friends falling in love with each other stories but i dont want that to happen to me in real life. Idk why lol the irony though. Anyway, i simply loved how they are with each other! How they send videos - funny and sexy ones-to each other. I guess they always had feelings for each other but were just too afraid to test the waters. I mean their friendship probably weighs more than taking a risk outside their comfort zone. I cried while reading some parts esp. the ones when they realized they had real feelings for each other not platonic ones anymore. I just love how the story flowed. The drama, the forgiveness and the confession part. haha. The saying 'Mommas' know best' is literally true. Their moms basically paired them even they were just teens and too blind to see what's in front of them.
P.S: Will Nate have a story, too? I don't really want him to end up with Phee... I want him to start a fresh with a girl that's perfect for him. Lol
This was very well written and readable and the only reason it has such a low rating is because I really didn't like Nash. It felt a bit like he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. When he keep wanting Bambi I was kinda over the whole book.....it's hard wanting a HEA when you don't think the main hero deserves one!

This was such a great, torturous read. I'm just glad they finally got there. After a while I hardly wanted to put the down and was saddened when it ended. It was a really good read though.
I really like this series. I love the family and the supporting characters. I can't wait for the other brother's book. This is a series that I would read again and again.
