Conner raised an eyebrow. “Did you do something stupid?” he asked with the ghost of a smile.I nodded maintaining my no-eye-contact façade, “Yup,” I sighed. He brightened and sat forward in his seat, “What? You mean… did you actually tell him?” he sounded pleased and incredulous all at the same time.I rubbed my eyes and looked up at him sheepishly; I was never any good at the whole no-eye-contact thing anyway, “Yup,”He looked hopefully at me, “And?” he asked with a hint of a smile.I looked at the two eager faces before me. There wasn’t a trace of gleeful mickey taking in either of them. They both knew the way I’d felt about Skye back in school and sixth form – hell, sad git that I am, they knew that I’d never felt that way about anyone since too.I shrugged, “He already knew,” I said. “He reckoned he looked for me to tell me he’d made a mistake but…” I trailed off.“Well, why don’t you go over there and ask him to go out for a drink with you one night, then?” he nodded in the general direction of where I’d been stood talking to him.I scratched my neck nervously, “I can’t do that – I’ll look all pathetic and needy.”“I don’t want to knock your confidence, mate – but you are all pathetic and needy,” Biff leaned forward and patted me on the shoulder, “– we’ve been propping you up for years mate – It's Christmas, just get laid already.” Biff had such a nice turn of phrase.

The gist of this story is a second chance romance helped along by the magic of Christmas.......this is not what I read......
I struggled with the story. Almost the first half of the novella book was a flashback to 6 years earlier, told in dual POV, often repeating scenes, this is highschool/YA trope - it was far too wordy, over descriptive and frankly frustrating with the seriously over the top teenage angst and too flowery prose for teenage boys......and the abuse and neglect that Dylan suffered in his mid teens? - so many pages dedicated to it and the aftermath.......it was repeated and repeated and repeated......
Dylan was an annoying dick. He had a right to be angry after his ordeal, but seriously, the way he terrorised Skye for two years I wanted to cut his nuts off. Skye was a wet blanket, only getting a backbone after being humiliated yet again.....teenage hormones running riot and not in a good way...... I didn't like the way the MC's "narrated" their parts, the story bounced from past to present, silly miscommunication, angst - oh the effing angst!!!! There just didn't seem to be a good flow to the story.......too jumpy, my head started to spin.....
To be honest, I feel a little cheated.....I was expecting some seasonal fluff, a touch of the warm and fuzzies with little mistletoe kisses and making up for lost time in front of a log fire with warm hearts and gentle caresses.......unfortunately, I should have heeded the title of the book.....yeah....sadly, I'm something stupid......
I really really wanted to like this, and it was a great story at first. Reading about Dylan's struggles at home and his need to be liked tore at my heart, but after he came back from his grandmother's the story became kind of unbelievable.
One of my few romances that isn't part of a series. This is a Christmas romance, seeing Dylan and Skye reunited after years being apart following a traumatic event in Dylan's life. Everything falls apart for Dylan and he lashes out the person he loves most in the world - Skye. Years later they meet back up and that same spark that they always had is still there - but there's still something that Skye isn't telling Dylan...
Frankly speaking, this is a good plot marred by an exaggerated propensity for soap operas. There are good ideas but, instead of focusing on her plot as a whole, the author takes her time to create a succession of confrontational scenes where the two leads keep on hurting each other because of misunderstandings that appear a little too contrived. Technically, she does not master the flashbacks very well, with the timeline being rather blurred and the several repetitions annoying.
This was a very good book. Hard to read at times. I mean sometimes it seemed like it repeated itself but then it would go right back on track. A few unanswered questions about things that happened in the book. But still pretty good.
