Fortunate #4

Something True

Rate this book
Ibbie Ibbot's life is pretty frigging awesome. She has a killer job, friends she would do anything for, and a sweet apartment she shares with her hotshot lawyer cousin. In fact, her life would be perfect if not for one thing. . .

Walt Vega. The complete and absolute bane of her existence. That tattooed, pierced punk has made her life a misery ever since they met a year ago. He's teased her, pranked her, driven her to utter distraction with his jibes and his digs and his piercing dark eyes. Sure, she may not be entirely innocent in their little war, but he most definitely started it.

If only he could be more like his older brother.

Aleix is everything Walt is not. He's charming, gentlemanly, a total dreamboat. And he's more than happy to sweep Ibbie off her feet.

One brother will take her dancing in the moonlight. He'll surprise her, he'll protect her, he'll kiss her like she's never been kissed before in her whole life.

Appearances can be deceptive.

Jessica Roe is the author of The Guardians series, the Fortunate series and the Haven series.

She's the mother of one sassy daughter, two cats and the grumpiest rat you'll ever meet. She's a lover of rainclouds, Gandalf and all things fantasy. Also chocolate. Always chocolate. When she's not writing or reading she's works as a graphic designer.

She loves to write, and especially enjoys creating a character and seeing where they take the story (because we all know authors aren't REALLY in charge).

That was brutal! Giving this a 1 star was me being nice. Seriously was this book written by a teenager?

The dialogue was horrendous, awful, pure torture!

“Oh God, the shame. His grandma is going to think I'm such a hussy. And Aleix. . .he's going to know that I went from making out with one brother to the next and. . . Oh wait, I don't give a hairy monkey's bare butt about what Aleix thinks, the lying jerk. But still, they'll know what we were doing and that's just totally cringe.”

I’m shocked I actually finished the book. The only reason I did was because this was a short book so I figured I’d stick out the torture a little bit longer, but all the while I was saying….

Not only was the story boring and not even entertaining, but there was absolutely no chemistry between either characters and there banter was beyond childish, would’ve never thought they were 22!

This was my first book by this Author and possibly the last.

Audiobook review: I just have to be honest….Ali Stark was horrible! Her narrating is beyond awful and she definitely needs to work on not trying to sound like a robot! The Quality of the audiobook was poor almost as if it was done on a recorder.

I wanted to like this. But it's a shame I didn't. Because I was definitely interested in Ibbie's romance, she's great in her quirky way. I think Walt also could have been far more fleshed out But after Falling for Him this seems like a huge let down. It felt rushed and lacking in TLC. So what should have been an expect love between enemies, wasn't given its all. Shame!

You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, even if that book is an arse.

Ibbie and Walt hate each other. And for the past year, since they're friendship circles joined thanks to Jemma and Reid's relationship, they've been at war. From annoying each other to pulling pranks and cockblocking, they've constantly been at each other's throats. Ibbie can't understand why Walt just won't give up and leave her alone so they can just mutually exist, even though it is kind of fun to piss him off. The truth is, Walt just doesn't want to stop pissing Ibbie off, because then his true feelings for her would be hanging on the line. When Ibbie starts going out with Walt's older brother Aleix, he's forced to face his feelings for Ibbie. Meanwhile Ibbie can't believe that Aleix and Walt are related, and she's enjoying the time they're spending together. Until he completely shuts her out and the only person she can turn to for help is Walt.

Yay Ibbie's story! She's been such a fun and crazy character since being introduced in the first book, so I was very excited to get in her head and her own story. To be honest, back when I read Falling For Him, I totally expected Ibbie to be set up with Zac, but slight disappointed aside, I still loved the direction Ibbie's story went. Plus, I just loved seeing the continuation of Blair & Silver and Jemma & Reid's stories.

As much as I enjoyed Ibbie and Walt's story, I really wish it had been longer. At times the story felt rushed and like we were missing out on some real character development and change. The 'enemies to lovers' stories really work best when there is a longer and slower build-up, especially in this case where we've only had two minor mentions in the previous books and not enough time to really see these characters develop, particularly Walt. I also just really wanted to see more of Ibbie's lift, particularly when it came to her acting and relationship with her sister. A full-length novel would have been fantastic for this story.

Despite it's length, I did really enjoy following Ibbie's story - she's such a dramatic and eccentric person who I loved to read about through Blair's eyes back in Falling For Him. I do wish we got to see a little more of Walt, whom we briefly met back in Jemma's book Something Real. It was actually great to see a new friendship circle and their relationships, and again this is something I wish we got to see more of (like, I need a Dahlia/Fabia book and more of Christien).

Overall, this is definitely a great read, and super quick as well. I've really been enjoying the Fortunate series, and this was another fun installment - bring on the final book! (I'm so not ready to say goodbye to all these characters). If you're a new adult and romance fan, this is definitely one to check out.

I feel like this is an extremely underrated series, I just don't hear anyone ever talk about and I don't know why because it's amazing. I absolutely LOVE it; and I believe that this novella might even be my favorite. The greedy part of me wishes it were longer, but I can't help feel like this was the perfect length for Walt and Ibbie. I didn't expect to like Walt as much as I did, but man...he is the definition of book boyfriend. I want one...or five...whatever. I loved his confident and rude side as much as his sweet and unsure side, I also loved how sure he was of his feelings and that he could own up to being a coward for so long. Ibbie was awesome as well, I loved how funny she was and I was surprised that there were so many laugh out loud moments in such a short story.

I want to quote everything said and done that I loved but honestly I'd just be copying the whole book because there wasn't a single part I didn't enjoy. I love this author and this series...I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good, sweet, funny romance. I can't wait for more!
