It’s been four months now since Serina and Mizukawa-sempai started going out. The second semester kicks off with a schoolwide festival, and Serina realizes something—Mizukawa-sempai’s popular with the girls. But before she can come to terms with this revelation, she meets Higuchi-sempai, the hottest boy at school—and he seems to have a thing for her! She’s living the high school love story of her dreams, and every day—no, every second—her heart races a little faster!
If you didn't think it could get any cuter after You Got Me, Sempai!, Vol. 1, then think again! This was so sweet I'm pretty sure I'm diabetic now!
The couple really ramped up the love in this and with each chapter they revealed more and more of how wonderfully their personalities fit together. The addition of a possible rival male love interest was happily welcomed and I loved all the little hints at possible turbulence to come in You Got Me, Sempai!, Vol. 3, so I'm really looking forward to seeing that next!
This was so CUTE and at times a bit steamy! I love that they have such a sweet relationship and are just so sweet together. Love that Serina showed a bit of jealousy and I loved the conversation that happened next. It was also sweet to see both of them missing the other when the boyfriend left for a schooltrip. And then lastly, the classic of all dates, amusement park time and Serina really did her research. Once again, I just love how mature these two are, they keep talking about things, about feelings, about being together, and more. It makes me smile. And the art is still just so gorgeous. LOVE LOVE.
I am NOT a fan of that soccer/sports guy that keeps on popping up. I have seen that kind of stuff happen one too many times in (shoujo) manga and I am done.
The second volume takes place during the cultural festival and we get a lot of romance and some smutty scenes. It's cute, honestly but more than that, it's also pretty genuine. There's one particular point, where Serina feels jealous of the other first year girls Asuma is talking to and the talk they have after is really pretty mature. I liked that bit and I also like how, whenever they have problems, they talk it out. Unlike the last high school romance I read, where they never talked and kept creating problems for themselves.
Other than that, we also get a possible new love interest, Higuchi. As I said before, I like his characterisation a bit more than Asuma's. Though, he's (Asuma) grown on me since before, especially with how much effort he makes to care for Serina. The side characters also have pretty good dynamics with each other, though I still don't know enough about them to feel anything.
That's all I have to say about this volume. It's hard to write a full-fledged review about a 'book' that's only four chapters long. So maybe from the 3rd one, I'll skip the review for each and just write a full one after completing the manga. Anyway, that's it for me.
Bottom Line: Full of classic Japanese High School stuff.
These characters are such cuties together, but there is an underlying theme of reaching maturity and finding out what exactly that means in regards to relationships and love. It’s a pretty solid series, even with common things like school festivals and amusement park dates and what-not.
“There’s lots of girls out there who are prettier than you. There’s girls with better personalities. Girls I have more in common with. I’m going to meet a lot of girls like that down the line. Maybe I’ll end up in a new class, maybe they’ll hire them at work, maybe I’ll meet them at college, maybe while I’m job hunting. But each and every time I do meet girls like that, I’m going to choose you over them.”
2nd Read (June 2020) So, portrayal of healthy relationship does exist! Who would have thought?
The volume opens with the school festival and for once, I did enjoy it. I guess because we jump right away into it and we don’t see all the preparation surrounding it since it already started.
What I really liked in this volume, is how Serina and Mizukawa are dealing with problem every couple is facing. That’s when you realize that Mizukawa is perfect because he comes to Serina so that they can talk about it, communication guys!, and reassure her about it. He is not trying to make her jealous on purpose. I don’t think I ever seen this portrayed in a shojo manga before, which is clearly a shame.
In a similar vein, Mizukawa talks about his previous relationship. Yes, he had a girlfriend before, it didn’t work out but now he is with her and he wouldn’t change how things are. I wish more shojo manga were trying to portray healthy relationships like this one rather than toxic ones.
The only thing I’m on the fence about, is the introduction of Higuchi.
Just as enjoyable as the first, if not more! Serina and Mizukawa continue to develop their relationship bit by bit, learning more about each other as they go. The author introduces a potential love rival in this installment—an upperclassman called Higuchi—but I wasn't as mad at that as I usually would be. Serian handled the situation well, and I hope his presence won't cause too much grief for the couple going forward.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I have a feeling that the other senpai is going to be a Mizukawa’s love rival for Serina’s affections. I really like that despite some slight miscommunications, Mizukawa and Sernia are able to move past things. I’m curious to see how things progress for the lovebirds in the next volume.
Very cute, some of the things they day about being cool is so awkward. I appreciate that they aren't complete prudes and there's an undercurrent of sexual energy because let's be honest for most teenagers that is something that's discussed or experienced.
Literally like,,the plot is nothing special just a bunch of high schoolers hanging out,but they’re seriously one of the best couple’s I’ve read about <3
Mucho mejor que el primer tomo, e impactada de la velocidad en cuanto a su sexualidad para ser un manga. Creo que un plus de esta historia es la honestidad que tienen los protagonistas
This was cute but the soccer club senpai is super annoying. The last chapter with the theme park date was adorable! I don't think I'll continue the series after this though. 3.5 stars.
I love how realistic their relationship feels to me! Feels like high school all over again! No being too shy to kiss or waiting forever to touch each other…
