Fallen angel Kasdeya hates all mortals. They're little more than playthings, as far as he's concerned. But when he finds himself facing a thousand-year prison sentence, he has no choice but to call on the one woman who might set him the Summoner.
His plan is simple. . .seduce her for his own purposes, then throw her away. If only she weren't so argumentative, so intelligent. If only she weren't so damned sexy!
Alisha Steele is...is me. Honestly, we all know who wrote this bio, who do I think I'm fooling?
Hi, my name’s Alisha (Really!) Steele (Okay, that last bit's made up.) I live in Ontario, Canada, with two men, two boys, a dog and a cat, and when I'm not busy cleaning up after the lot of 'em I quite enjoy writing smut...erm, I mean erotica. I write all kinds of sm - erotica. Under the pen name 'Alisha Steele' you'll find my het and menage stuff and under just 'A. Steele' my M/M stories. The genres I prefer to pen are contemporary and contemporary/paranormal. If I happen to be going through one of my all too frequent writer's block/dry-spells, though, chances are you'll find me painting a children's mural, faux-finishing...pretty much anything, walking in the woods, or curled up on the couch with a good book - not necessarily in that order.
Alexandra, “Alex”, Brannigan is twenty seven and already worried about wrinkles. As she’s examining her almost wrinkles, the power goes out and someone calls to her. The scene then jumps into her “nightmare”. It’s one that she’s had in the past.
Alex’s job is running a place called Dovescot which is a refuge for battered women. She’s only 5’ 2” and weighs 100 pounds. She may be petite but in a fight, you would want her on your side. She certainly knows how to take care of herself.
Her tormentor has black wings and alabaster white skin. Alisha paints a very sexy picture – be still my heart. His name is Kasdeya and what makes him different from Alex is that he’s not human. There is also another character that she will eventually meet and his name is Shaitan.
Kasdeya doesn’t waste any time showing Alex who’s in charge. But then she takes him by surprise. They also have an interesting connection. They are the perfect match – he being the typical bad boy and her the typical good girl.
Alisha’s scenes are so descriptive that you almost feel that you’re a voyeur. But I don’t think either of them would mind being on display. They seem to be playing a game of cat and mouse. It leaves me wondering who’s going to win.
Just like great sex, Alisha doesn’t rush her scenes between Kasdeya and Alex. Alisha also does role reversals with her characters. This book would put any adult movie to shame. In the description it states that it has explicit language but I found it not to be as explicit as some.
Alex gets very creative in a spanking scene with Kasdeya. They act more like a normal couple instead of a demon and a human summoner. They are very physical lovers. Alisha gives her fallen angel feelings which you wouldn’t think was possible – especially without some fallout from above.
This story also makes you question as to what lengths you would go to for the one you love above all else. Alisha also has you jealous of how her lovebirds are together. We also get to know some of the lesser characters. There is Alex’s co-worker Ruth, Kasdeya’s ex-friend Uriel, and Shaitan’s concubine Shi-Liu.
Toward the end of the story, Alisha has a scene that we see twice. Once is through Alex’s eyes and the other is through Kasdeya’s eyes. This makes the scene interesting. At the very end of the book, she’ll have you laughing. And once you get there you’ll see what I mean. Please make sure that you don’t miss the “About Alisha Steele” found at the end of the story. You will find out that Alisha explains a little bit about the writing of this story. “The Summoner” is a must read.
Alex needs her sleep, with a full time job, a new house that she is not only fixing up as she unpack – but she now have a person calling to her through her dreams.
Ever since a child she has always had a period of her life where her dreams are more like nightmares and her only salvation is that they only came about only a handful of time for her to get on with her life as she wanted to. This time however there is an urgency to the call and once she falls asleep someone is trying their hardest to summoner her or be summoned – so she does the next best thing – she says the word “I summon you’ and then her whole life is tossed up side down.
Kayseda is the fallen angel from the Alex’s dreams and trying to break free from a thousand years prison sentence – he find a summoner (Alex) and through a little conniving and a little lure he gets to meet the lovely Alex. His plan does not work as he hoped it would, because Alex would not do as he wish and he has no choice but to follow her every command.
Alex is immediately caught up in the joy and fulfilment that she gets from her “Dark man”, but some things are too good to be true and as kas has not been entirely truthful about his sentence and his freedom – it’s left up to Alex to pay the piper whether she agrees or not.
Let me first get the fact that I am a cover whore out of the way as the reason why I was attracted to this book, I am very impressed with Renee Rocco’s the cover artist work here. That said, one big plus of Ms. Steele style is that she actually gives a reason why there are tattooed “like” wings on the back of the cover model and that explanation makes a refreshing change to the book as when every hero, heroine and their dog have a tattoo but no reason why – it does makes a difference.
Now for the story, the meat of the story actually starts once Alex literally does a jail break by summoning Kas from his thousand years jail sentence, Kas is a fallen angel with a reputation that proceeds him and in the right circle he is revered - Alex is however clearly not up on her demons and fallen angel because she has no idea who kas is and only knows that he has all the right equipment to make her sing a different tune. She also not only does she have total control over him, but she is enjoying her time with him and she is falling fast and hard for this fallen angel.
Kas has his own dilemma, he had a plan, it was so easy – get The Summoner to break him out and once he gets his freedom he planned to be long gone. As a fallen angel he has only limited time before the powers that be nabs him and send him back, so he should know better that plans can change at the drop of a hat. Add meeting Alex in the flesh to the mix and he was all about their flesh joining, then his heart got involved and it was game over from there.
kas hasn’t been exactly truthful to Alex and before long she has an unexpected visitor and has to make the hardest of choices – but nothing is worse than knowing the man she loves think she is dead.
I have mixed feeling about this book, the story line was ok and the cast had their own little nuances to ensure that I fell in love with them and had a laugh at their expense as well.. My major grouse with this book is the fine line between good and evil and whilst I know it’s all fantasy and subjective I had so much issues with the fallen angels, and the other good/evil inference made in the book.
This is my first book by this author and while this book was definately not my cup of tea -her voice flowed through the character well. I was very impressed with her ability to describe the people, the outfit, the angst and some of the tension filled issues that tied the book together. The smut was not bad as well, but it was little too much after a while (can you believe – me, complaining about too much smut).
If you are in the mood for a change please have a go – the things that worked in this book worked well and the niggles for me were sprinkled right through the book so it made it not the anticipated book that I had hoped it would be.
