About the author

Steve Dean was born and still lives in the city of Nottingham in the UK. He began to read at a very early age and soon became an avid consumer of genre fiction. Over the years, he tried several jobs before ending up in IT support. During this time, Steve began writing his own fiction, eventually becoming a full-time freelancer. In the last twenty-five years, Steve has created a wide range of works, including science fiction and fantasy novels, short stories, and material for a variety of tabletop and video games.

Inspired by many of the top names in genre fiction, his stories are filled with action and adventure but are always told through the eyes of fully-rounded and deep characters. Humour is also important to Steve, whether in his full-on and more adult comedies, or just the occasional lighter moments in the darkest of tales.

When not dreaming up strange monsters and robots, Steve plays tabletop and video role-playing games far too much, watches science fiction as well as science and technology documentaries, and reads from his ever-growing library of genre novels. Just for a change, he also grows cacti and house plants, makes furniture, and tinkers with computers and other technology.

The name Throb Hammerdong pretty much sums up this book. It has sex, violence, and wit. I’ve never read this author or anything about barbarians so I didn’t know what to expect from this book. I was a little annoyed in the beginning with the over describing of the way things/people looked, but it became a running gag that I ended up enjoying. I love that this book never once took itself seriously. It has a bonkers sense of humor that is right up my alley and I look forward to reading more from Mr. Dean. I try not to give 5 stars unless it really blows me away so I give this a 4.5. Fully enjoyed and highly recommend if the name Throb Hammerdong sparks your interest in any way.

I enjoyed this book. This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more from him in the future. This is a well written story that has characters that not only bring the story to life but also brings twists and turns to a new level. This is a story about revenge and really brings the action. This is a faster paced story that is engaging and has characters that are connectable. Throb made such a great character and he really made the story for me. I highly recommend this book.

While I do like sci-fi and love barbarians, I just couldn’t get into this book. The story is slow moving and not much plot/character development. Unfortunately this was a DNF for me.

Wow, I really didn’t think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. This story is so full of surprises and twist and turns, but at the same time it sucks you in so deep it’s hard not to stay focus on the story. I would love to know how the author came up with the names for the characters. It’s names as a child would makeup, but these names were more for adults. I must say I truly admire Kissy for her courage to leave her family to be with Throb. They were a pair that truly was made for each other. As for the rest of the team they all seem to know their role and blend in with Kissy and Throb.

Going into this story, I was excited with the anticipation of another take on barbarians. I’m still unsure of whether to feel completely let down or upset I wasted my time reading this book. The writing style was mediocre at best, character development was minimal (and that’s exaggerating), and all in all, just a major disappointment. And, I did take into consideration that various authors have different writing styles, hence alternative views on how barbarians are meant to be viewed, but this story just do them any justice.
