With a rock hard body and seductive smile, Lieutenant Perry Flynn is a hard man to ignore. He makes it very clear that Kylie's fierce attraction is mutual. But Kylie can't afford to let Perry cloud her judgment, especially when she begins to suspect that his dark obsession with the case runs deeper than it should. Then, when disturbing new evidence points to a cop, Kylie wonders if her sinful thoughts about Perry have thrust her into the strong, sleek arms of a killer…

I really wanted to like this book!! I even did for the first few chapters, I think my hope was it would get better. The story wasn't bad, a little predictable but it was the main characters that I could not stand!! They were awful!! I absolutely LOVE Alpha hero's but Perry was an A-HOLE!! IMO - I understand the alpha need for protectiveness and possessiveness but this guy was just a jerk! The heroine really rubbed me the wrong way too, I just can't put my finger on exactly why. I can honestly say I have never disliked a H/h enough for me to rate the book so poorly but this book was really hard for me to finish. The only reason I did was because I really, really hoped it would get better!! It didn't!

Okay....this was a decent if aggravating attempt at Romantic Suspense.
On the plus side, I did finish it, and fairly quickly as well. And the overall storyline was pretty interesting, if unoriginal.

Now for the not so great stuff...Them main characters...Seriously?, I didn't, couldn't like either of them.

She's supposedly this kick ass super FBI agent, yet the small town cop gets the drop on her repeatedly? Uh huh...sure...okay. Maybe if we'd seen some evidence of her super FBI-ness, I'd have believed it, but as it is, we're just told she's awesome, again and again. Then there's her work dynamic which IMO didn't make a whole lotta sense either.....she's an expert that was asked to help solve the sex predator crime spree...invited from her home state, to come to Mission Hills...so Who did the asking? And if she's such an expert, why did no one else listen to her! They kept telling her what to do...and half the time she just took it! and the team she worked with was tiny! Which, okay, didn't bug me as much, since the town's not exactly a bustling metropolis, but apparently said team had no women on it? Really?

And Him...oh him. he's an alpha male, but the asshole kind. He's very macho, as in he's the man, and she's the little lady and she'll do as she told, Even if she wasn't an FBI agent, that attitude would piss me off. He's just sooo tough and soo strong and soooo good at his job in his tiny little town that he makes super FBI girl look inept....and what is his background exactly? how is he soooo skilled!? We never learn the answer to either of those questions...and it would help a lot in getting to know the H, and why he is the way he is.
And honestly... If we'd seen a few bits of vulnerability from him....Maybe a few scenes of humility...or hell just one, where our so called expert surprises him and kicks his ass, I'd have liked him better....but it never happens because he won't allow it to. Additionally he's sorta of an idiot...(and I'm going to mention a few scenes from the book here but I don't think they constitute spoilers, but JIC, be warned)

Two times, right in front of the heroine, The totally hot, and amazing and super strong, and smart, who never does any wrong (and yes, that's sarcasm) Hero tells his family that they (the H and h) aren't in any type of relationship (and this is after they're 'sleeping' together and he decides he wants more then sex with his precious h) and that his nieces won't have to worry about calling her "Aunty"...Um Hello? How much of a moron do you have to be, to not get that that's probably not gonna win you any points with the girl? (and she never calls him on this either!) And seriously, almost every non related female character he comes across hits on him. Whether in the midst of discussing the sexual predator going after teenage girls, or in front of grieving parents, it happens again and again... (and later he chews out a younger female officer for inappropriate behavior at a crime scene...um WTH!? Hypocrite much?) And his boss...The Chief....he didn't come off as a concerned cop, or even that qualified. He was more of an asshole, who watched out for his own ass...It seemed like he didn't want any of his cops to be bad, for the sole reason that it would make him look bad. And he had such a freaking attitude! Fine, we get it, you don't like FBI in your territory or thinking one of your own could possibly be guilty.... But there's a different between righteous anger and being an asshole...

and add to my intense dislike for both characters, is that so much goes unexplained! Like okay, she is an undercover cop, so she has cameras doing surveillance in the front of her house...Makes sense, right? the big bad might drive by, but then why are cameras inside the house? (there's no evidence that he (the villain) has ever entered any of his victims homes,
so why the added expense? If it's JIC, why isn't that said anywhere? and how did the heroine not know they were there? (seriously, this is what you call an expert agent?!) oh oh oh! AND she knows the bad guy's driven by her place. She knows it . Yet she still has no qualms making out with the hero on her front porch/in her front yard for all and sundry to freaking see! with no attempt at discretion! Seriously?

Okay. I realize this has come off more as a vent/rant than a review, so for that (and the over usage of the word “seriously”) I
apologize. It's really not that bad. I just really really didn't like the characters...or the inconsistencies...or all the unexplained bits...but if you can get past those, it's a really good book! (<--- um, in case you can't tell, that's sarcasm, again)

When I read the back of this book, I was like I don’t think this will hold me, but Lorie proved me wrong! I had a hard time putting it down. I loved deep that she brings you into this case plus I didn’t feel like I missed anything about the case. I have to hand it to Lorie one thing she does write is dominant men and let me tell you, Perry is a hot one at that. This is one steamy hot action pack suspense, one that will keep you turning the pages to see who is killing these teens and why, especially when one of Perry’s niece’s is dragged into this it gets a little tense to see what happens to her.

Spoilers
In this book Kylie is posing as a collage student to help bring down a man that kidnapping teens and brutally murdering them. But here is the catch is there just one man or more? Well let me tell you it sure surprised me when I found out who. Kylie is a great FBI agent. I really liked her strong character she takes these killers down by her gorgeous young looks. Kylie befriends Perry’s nieces to help in write a thesis on teens, from here the story just gets deeper and deeper, will the nieces except Kylie or not? They certainly don’t think she is a collage student for long.

Lieutenant Perry finds a teen porn site and teens starts coming up missing he wants the case. Perry is no pervert for teens, but when he sees young looking Kylie standing by her car looking at a bunch of teens, well lets just say one member became very hard. When Perry sees her with his nieces he doesn’t trust her she shows signs of not being a collage student, so he has to find out who Kylie really is. Will Perry be able to handle Kylie, his sister and his nieces all at once plus this case? With Perry being a dominant and Kylie not caving they way he wants it makes the sex extremely hot and there is quite a bit of it.

I also like to include Perry’s nieces doesn’t get in the way of the story I found they really bring more in to it.

Another one bites the dust...I gave the book 171 pages (which was generous) before I threw in the towel. The synopsis led me to believe this book had potential, but it failed to hit the mark.

For starters the "Hero"...oh boy...🤦‍♀️

Let me make myself clear...I love alpha male a-hole heroes in books! But there is a very fine line between writing a well-crafted hero who is mysterious, brooding, and even a bit dangerous... and writing a total a**-hat. Unfortunately, Perry fell into the a**-hat category.

In short, his character lacked finesse. He was all growls and overbearing alpha male-ness with zero charisma and charm, and only his "amazingly" hot looks to make him appealing. This does not make for a likable or well-rounded hero. Yes, chiseled abs and a pretty face are awesome, but if that's all the hero has besides a gun then there's not much substance.

When I said he was all growls, I wish I was exaggerating. But Perry couldn't talk to anyone, including his sister and nieces, without growling...🐕 Again, don't get me wrong. This is a great way to describe a tone of voice now and again, but please toss in more variety! Otherwise, the description loses all meaning, and he begins to sound overly angry, like all the time. 😡

In addition to his over-the-top growling, we were hit over the head with how convinced he was that a relationship just wasn't in the cards for him. I get that this was supposed to enlighten us as to why he might fight how drawn he is to Kylie, but again...lack of finesse made the delivery of that information feel clunky. And come on...cops get married and have families all the time. Why is he so convinced that he can't? Ooooooh...right...his sister is a cop's widow. 🤔 🤷‍♀️

I'll give Perry a break for a sec while I move on to our heroine, Kylie.

I wish I could say she had greater character depth than Perry did, but she also felt incomplete. We were given a pretty sad backstory for her, but I failed to see how this made her an "expert" in tracking online predators. She just jumped from growing up in the shadow of her murdered sister to being a Special Agent with the FBI specializing in acting as bait.

There were a lot of questionable details with her undercover work as well. If she's so good at her job how did Perry immediately ID her as being older than she was trying to appear? And the excuse she used to be hanging around places where teens were sounded lame and highly questionable.

Things only got worse after Perry and Kylie meet. I think the aim was for there to be instant sparks between them, but again...this lacked finesse. I am all for instant insane attraction in romantic suspense. But going from zero to sixty isn't adding sizzle or tension. Instead of building up the heat with subtlety, both of our leads have explicit sexual thoughts about the other the 2nd time they meet. Which makes this read more like the opening to a porno 🤣

Quite a number of events had me shaking my head at how unreasonable it was or completely unprofessional.

For example; only a few times after meeting, Perry and Kylie are on a kissing basis. Always insanely aggressive as in Perry even has his hand around her neck. 🤔🤦‍♀️ One of these occasions takes place after Kylie shows up at a crime scene that Perry had been called to. He goes over to her and pushes her up against her car and sucks face with her...while his cop partner waits in the car. 🤔 Ummmmm...how was that ok? How was he not trying to keep things professional at a freakin' crime scene!

Then we get a completely over-blown sex scene, complete with the "oh my God he's so big" schtick, and Perry saying cringe things like "take all of me baby" 😖🤦‍♀️

You know a book isn't going to get any better when even the romance aspect leaves a lot to be desired. In the end, I just didn't care if Perry and Kylie got together.

"Sigh". I found so many things wrong with this book. I know it's suppose to be erotic romantic suspense but sometimes the erotic overtones in the book became an overkill. I actually found myself rolling my eye every other page. Kylie, an FBI agent, is undercover in a small town trying to catch a sexual predator that preys on teenage girls. The FBI suspects that it may be someone in the police department so Kylie can't disclose her real profession and claims to be a college student writing a thesis on American teenage behavior. She becomes close to one of the teens in town whose uncle happens to be a Lt. in the police department. He also wants to catch this predator since he is afraid one of his nieces may be next. There is instant attraction between the hero and the heroine which she fights because the hero is also a suspect.

The things I found wrong with the book. It seem like the hero would think about having sex or the last time he had sex with the heroine at some of the most inappropriate moments. A teen is found dead in parking lot. He is looking for evidence, but all we hear in his mind is how much he wants to do the heroine, how he can't wait to do her again, or some other form of doing her. He rescue his niece from almost getting snatched and while o driving his niece home all he can think about is how beautiful the heroine is. Uh, your niece almost became a victim of a sexual predator shouldn't your mind be on that. The niece wants to give a description of what the man looks like. He says, not right now. "crickets". All I kept thinking was "what kind of cop are you?".

I couldn't understand how the heroine was suppose to be this great bait for sexual predators, especailly a sexual predators who was only going after teens when the author clearly stated she looked like she was at least 23. "crickets" Then when you find out who the predator was it just kills everything you read in the book and your like seriously. While on the ctime scene a tech starts to flirt with the hero and the heroine witnesses this and gets upset and won't talk to him. Is everyone in this fictional town incompetent. I mean the tech was physically all over him. When the heroine finally does call him to tell him she is meeting the perp and to meet her at the bowling alley she is cold and distant. Then during a time where she should be alert waiting for the perp she wants to blast hero about the scene she seen with the tech. I felt like the scene with the tech and the jealousy after was an unnecessary addition to the story and once again I rolled my eye. It made them look even more incompetent. I know I'm not suppose to take a book seriously and I really don't, but you can still write a great erotic romantic suspense without ruining the integrity of the initial story. The best part of the book was the sex scenes and that's why I gave the book 2 stars.

I wasn't really to sure about his book. I had read the first one and caught my attention right away nut this not so much. Then finally getting into it, I had a hard time putting it down. I loved how close to home it hit these characters. I love the whole Alpha male thing as well. Perry is a hot one at that. This is one steamy hot action packed read, one that will keep you interested and not being able to turn the pages fast enough. A killer a waits...

In this book Kylie is posing as a collage student to help bring down a man that kidnapping teens and killing them. Well let me tell you it sure surprised me when I found out who. Kylie is an outstanding FBI agent. Kylie happens to befriend Perry's nieces. And this is only to help her in write a thesis on teens, but Kylie begins to really care for the girls. From here the story just seems to suck you in. She wont be able to hide who she really is much longer.

Lieutenant Perry finds a teen porn site and whats to put a end to it once and for all. When Perry sees Kylie at the school he is attracted to her right away. When Perry sees her with his nieces he doesn’t trust her and it just so happens she shows no signs of being a collage student. Finding out who Kylie really is will be tricky. Will Perry be able to handle Kylie, his nieces plus this case?

I loved how all the characters all came together even the bad ones. It keeps you guessing and guessing what will happen next. Their isn't way to much romance going on just lots of tension and attraction. And of course getting tangled in the sheets. Now things are passed complicated whose heart is more at risk of being broken?

Such a great read. I am hoping there will be some more hot FBI agent books being released by the fantastic Lorie O' Clare.

I tried really hard to like this book but no dice. Given that it was published in 2010, I get that the social media aspect of it would be a little different than the present but this was more circa 2005-6-7. Because seriously, who in 2010 still used AIM? Weren't kids texting or gchatting already? Then there was the actual plot - the internet predators - wasn't that a big thing in 2004-2007 (hint hint: Dateline: To Catch a Predator)? It was so done by the time this book was published so I couldn't even give an excuse as to how outdated the subject matter was.

Then there was the romantic plot - which I found really confusing. I'm not sure why she would be attracted to him considering he was always trying to break into her locked rooms or shove her aside or outrun her to try to get into her stuff. What was it any of his business whether she was playing detective or wanted to lock her rooms or have surveillance cameras? Right after their outrageous sex scene (which was exactly halfway through), I abandoned the book. The unoriginal murder-mystery plot I can stomach, the caveman male protagonist I can stomach, but the (unrealistic) rainbows, butterflies and stars sex scene was the absolute dealbreaker.

A fast-paced novel which takes the reader into the world of the sexual predator as seen through the eyes of local and federal law enforcement and from the personal perspective of parents who are losing their teen daughters to a serial abuser/killer. It is also the love story between an undercover FBI agent who is acting as bait for the killer, and a police officer who is trying in the worst way to apprehend the killer in light of his need to protect his four nieces. Kylie and Flynn are both experienced law enforcement personnel and even though they don't literally "work" together until later in the story, both are working hard to get this animal off the streets and keep the teens of Mission Hills safe. There is love, passion, friendship, family bonds of caring that seek to protect and insulate children from the worst in the world. And it is a novel of hope when the reader realizes that there are people who are working around the clock to keep our children safe and to apprehend those who would abuse and misuse to feed their addictive perversions. This is an insightful novel and a really great read.

This book was everything I have come to expect from this author. I read the first two books in this series (Tall, Dark and Deadly (St. Martins) & Long, Lean and Lethal) last September and I couldn't wait for this to arrive. You do not have to read the other 2 to follow the story, but the characters from Long, Lean, and Lethal are briefly mentioned. So unless you want a spoiler - I recommend you start at the beginning.

This series has typical law enforcement characters and plots. However, this author's unique style makes everything seem fresh. Lieutenant Perry Flynn's character is awesomely written, he is an alpha male but, he is often written to show the love he shares for the people that are important to him. Kylie Donovan is also a well developed character. She is not your typical female lead - she is strong, independent and she doesn't let anyone including Perry push her around.

I cannot understand why I gave the previous O'Clare book (Tall, Dark & Deadly) 4 stars but couldn't even get thru 2 or 3 chapters of SSS. Seriously, was I crazy or was the writing, which aggravated me to no end in this novel, that much better in the other book? Because I found it stilted in this one. I also thought the plot flow in SSS did not flow. There was no indication after a few chapters that I would like the characters, the actions of the heroine were improbable and the police captain who would not let the hero (don't even remember his name) follow up on a possible on-line child predator living in his berg should have been turned in to a higher authority and fired.

Anyway, I wonder if I should try any other O'Clare books in the future. Did anyone else like this book or was I just me?

Special Agent Kylie Donovan knows what evil men can do. She lost her sister awhile back to a predator, and they never found or solved the case. years later, she is the lead detective with predators. She starts posing as a colleague student trying to get close and arrest the predator who is raping, killing and beating up girls,he meets them on the internet and then at a place they are comfortable at. the problem is everything is pointing to a local law enforcement cop, Lieutenant Perry Flynn has a personal interest in the case, his nieces can be a victim they fit the profile of the age, gender and personality. Find out about this tongue twister and how Lorie O'Clare points everything to one victim then suddenly they are cleared and turns out to be someone else. i found it interesting,

I stumbled upon the FBI series by O'Clare after reading the Bounty Hunter Series. O'Clare blends the suspense nicely and keeps you guessing on the outcome. While making sure to give you just enough HOT to keep you coming back. Definitely could be read as a stand alone, but why not read the entire series.
Love to see when we have strong male and female characters, without either of them willing to cower or back down. Getting to know Kylie and Perry was like a game of cat and mouse. They were both so cautious of each other, but you are definitely rooting for them. Dealing with dark story lines can be hard to make the book light, but Lorie O'Clare does a great job of grabbing you and keeping you on the hook.

We had a heroine and a hero (and I use those terms really loosely) who could only go on for a certain time before thinking about sex, about doing each other, about whether or not they should trust each other while doing each other behind their bosses' back, whether the hero is the killer, who the heroine really is, why they shouldn't dry hump in the house while the camera videotapes their every move, about having sex there or here with a killer on the loose, and seriously who cares about the girls who are dying left and right! It's all about THE SEX!

Wow, and to think I was actually going to write an actual reveiw for this dim-witted book.

It didn't take me long to realize this book has everything I hate.

Here's what we have.

The hero of the caveman type, growling instead of talking - seriously, shouldn't homo sapiens be a bit more developped at this stage of evolution?

The heroine of the photoshop-kind of beauty, going weak in the knees every second she sees the above-mentioned prehistoric man.

A stupid, implausible romance starting with lust at first sight. It's like they never had sex before or something. They see each other and feel immediately ready to go to bed together on the spot. Gosh. I guess they would do the caveman growling thing too. Yuuuuck.

I'm never touching this author's books again.

I do believe this Is the best book out of the three. I don't thing I have found a book that doesn't leave me wanting more. She leaves you knowing everything will workout, but I would liked to have read how they did. The ending to the cliffhanger sense was a little annoying. I was not real happy with that but it did have me on the edge of my set for they second or two when turning the page. Would recumbent the entire series.

Well this one had a slow start for me. I was not sure the turns it was going to take and I found myself second guessing everything! Then I let myself just enjoy the book. Now that I finished, I want more!! I would love to see another book from this series. I enjoyed the few times that Noah & Rain from Long, Lean and Lethal appear. Even with the slow star, I loved the book.
