Climate Moms

Rate this book
Climate Moms is a book about climate change for soccer moms, hockey moms, room moms, team moms, scout leaders, and even dads. Over the last years, I have been giving talks about climate change to students, scouts, and youth groups. Because these young people are immersed in science in school, understanding climate change is not difficult. They leave my talks ready to make changes in their lives to reduce their own carbon emissions. The challenge is that when these boys and girls get home, mom hands them a disposable water bottle, packs their lunch with little plastic bags, and cranks up the air conditioner at the slightest rise in temperature. To help moms, and dads, understand climate change and how their daily choices contribute to rising carbon in our atmosphere, I wrote this book. Climate Moms is especially designed for mothers with the goal of empowering them to take control of the future of our planet.

A light and easy approach to a complicated topic

I enjoyed the light and easy approach this author took in condensing a complicated and colossal topic such as climate change. As any primary caregiver to young and active children knows, juggling and navigating the family's day to day schedule is overwhelming at best. Adding the concern and proactive choices to slowing climate change into the mix can seem unrealistic. This simple approach to taming and understanding the massive peer reviewed data and scientific evidence to climate change and the human contribution for the lay person hits the right balance. The science and data are included but are easily digestible and with relatable whimsy. I would recommend this book to any new parent group. It is a great way to discuss some collective ways to make small but significant changes to our life choices. I finished the book with "I can do that..." attitude.
