This book was published in 1910 "to tell the thrilling story of the Stars and Stripes, and the very best of all that has ever appeared about it in picture, prose, poetry and song, thus making, in small compass, a true handbook of the Flag."
Most of us have heard many of the facts in the book but the first half of the book was a nice history. So much more has happened since 1910, though. The second half of the book is a collection of songs, poems, etc. which was nice, but lengthy. I was disappointed that the Flag Code was not included in the book. I would have given 4 stars if it were. Children need to know flag history and honor! And show respect. If Flag Code was part of schools today, we may not see so many flag burnings.. ironically a right provided by the men and women who gave their lives for our country.
Helpful as a teaching resource, but not what I had expected it to be. I had hoped to incorporate more of the information into lessons about the changing American flag as our nation developed, but the book wasn't really organized in such a way to make the information easily transferable for that purpose.
