Ovviamente sappiamo già come va a finire.
I really enjoy Christine Rimmer's Bravo series and this book is another good one to add to that list. Damien is the consummate playboy that has decided he isn't the type to ever stay with one lady. Then he meets Lucy and treats her like an adult when because of illness she feels treated like a child all the time. Several years later they take the next step in their friendship, but Lucy makes the mistake of falling in love which of course sends Damien running. As with all the Bravo books there is a happily ever after, it just takes a certain someone relocating his head back to his shoulders.
This was a really fun book. We met Lucy in the previous book How to Marry a Princess. She is Noah's little sister. Thanks to her own efforts and help from Alice and Damien, Lucy has finally broken free of her brother's overprotective shield and she wants to start to live her life. Unfortunately her sheltered life has put her at a disadvantage with men. She decides that she needs a teacher, so she goes to her friend Damien and asks him to instruct her. Dami is floored because he's never thought of her that way, but he can't stand the idea of her being hurt by someone else. And suddenly that sweet little girl he knew is looking all woman to him.
I loved both Lucy and Damien. Lucy has spent most of her life very sheltered because of health problems. Now that those problems have been fixed she really wants to start living her life. She has moved to New York City and is set to start fashion school. But she's having a hard time with the dating scene because her inexperience seems to be chasing away the more interesting men. She decides that her best option is to get some experience. I loved the way that she decided Dami was the perfect person. She knows he has the experience to do it right, plus he's a good friend so she would be comfortable with him. I loved the scene where she put her proposition to him. She was so nervous but so determined that she just kept talking right over him, not wanting him to say no. She knew that his request that they "date" first was his way of trying to get out of it but she was willing to take a chance. I loved her openness and honesty and her caring heart. She saw Dami in a way that he did not see himself and it only added to her feelings for him. I also loved her determined bid for her independence. She loved her brother but she had no trouble telling him to butt out. The scene where she woke him up to tell him off was hilarious. I really liked seeing the way that her crush on Dami turned into real love. She accepted and loved him just the way he was, not judging him on anything he had done in the past. She had enough confidence and pride in herself to be able to tell him how she felt then walk away with dignity when she knew she couldn't get what she needed from him.
Dami is known as the Player Prince. He never settles on one woman for long. He and Lucy's brother Noah have been friends for a long time and he has known Lucy for just as long. He's always considered her a friend and was there to help her when she wanted to move to New York. When she came to him with her proposition he was stunned. He had never looked at her that way. I loved the way he tried to put her off by saying that they would have to "date" first, figuring he could talk her out of it. He didn't expect that he would actually start seeing her as a woman and it freaked it him out a bit at the beginning. He tries to fight it but can't. The scene where they are together the first time was incredible. It was hard to let her go back to New York. I loved the way he wasn't able to stay away and showed up in New York to be with her again. There was something about her that made him feel things that he hadn't felt in a long time and he wanted it for as long as it would last. I loved seeing the way it wasn't just the physical side of things but also just being with her and talking and doing stuff with her. Dami sees himself as pretty shallow and keeps reminding her that he is the one member of his family who doesn't fit the mold of finding a woman to love and commit to. He doesn't agree with the way she sees him and tries to convince her that he's not the man she thinks he is. He freaks out when she confesses her feelings and really works to convince her that there is no way for them to have a future together. His misery afterwards and the way he misses her are a just reward for his idiocy. I loved his phone conversation with Noah and then his epiphany when he got cornered by his ex-girlfriend. It was great seeing him realize that he hadn't been able to commit to anyone else because he'd been in love with Lucy all along.
This book is a mini series within an ongoing series (like 39 books). I should have known better than to read a book like this, names and relationships are dropped all over the place and I always feel like I'm lost at sea. It's one reason I never read Rimmer before because I "found" her well into the Bravo family series and I didn't want to hunt down all the backlist. Anyhow . . . . .
I did enjoy the book though it was set in a fictitious country, which is way not one of my favorite settings. The hero was a prince of the ruling family; the heroine was the younger sister of one of the prince's friends, which IS one of my favorite plot points so the fake country and FTL cancelled each other out.
I found a couple of really slow sections of the book, but there were a few reveals that surprised me and kept my interest. I'm not sure if I'll be glomming the Bravo family backlist but if a title falls into my lap I'll take it.
Lucy Cordell is frustrated that her neighbor isn't interested in her because she's inexperienced. She decides to ask Damien, prince of Montedoro, to be her first. Dami has a reputation as a playboy and Lucy thinks he'd be a good choice to teach her, but Dami is obviously reluctant - especially since he's friends with Lucy's brother and Noah wouldn't be happy with Dami taking advantage of his sister. This was a short and sexy virgin/playboy story with some fun characters.
This is a story that has been written many times before. Virgin wants a pretend boyfriend to practice because she is interested in someone else. While pretending they fall in love and live happily ever after. The twist here is that the pretend boyfriend is a royal. That makes it even more unlikely and unbelievable. It was an ok story if you like predictable settings and enjoy Harlequin type ideal romances. The narration was pretty good although the male voices could have been better.
I listened to this book on Audible. Unfortunately I didn’t know it was book 6 in a series, which probably results in my lower rating of this book. Several times during this book, I felt like I’d skipped forward and missed something. Since I haven’t read any of the other books, I’m assuming that had I read them in order, I probably/maybe wouldn’t have had this feeling. While I enjoyed the story, there were just too many holes for me to give it a higher rating. :-(
It ran a lot longer than it needed to for such a straight-forward story. It just didn't have enough conflict driving the plot. At half the length, it might have been a good story, but at this length it felt padded and a bit boring. Sorry, but sex scenes don't stand in for character development or an actual plot.
"Holiday Royale" is wonderful coming of age love story by Christine Rimmer. Lucy Cordell and Damien Bravo-Calabretti finally get their own story if you have been keeping up with Ms. Rimmer's Bravo series. No worries if you haven't because this book is captivating enough to stand alone. Poor, sweet Lucy has lived under the shadow of her over-protective brother her whole life. Let's face it being little Miss Virgin has put a damper on her dating life now that she has finally been allowed to fly the coop to live out her dreams of fashion design school in New York City. What's a girl to do? She turned to her best friend, Dami, also known as the player prince. Lucy thinks it will work out perfectly. Well, Dami isn't so sure. He has always thought of Lucy as a little girl, a great friend and excellent confidant. Dami proposes they take their sweet little time over the Thanksgiving holiday, in hopes that he can put Lucy off until something unexpected happens when they kiss for the first time. He realizes little Lucy has grown up. Ms. Rimmer has the gift of taking a simple friendship and turning it into a great love story. Of course, there are bumps and bruises along the way but isn't that what makes it an exciting ride.
Things I loved about this book. Lucy's innocence. Hopefully we all can remember a time when we were fresh-faced and had stars in our eyes. Lucy's matter of factness is alluring. She decides that being innocent in a hindrance. She sets out to get herself a tutor that she can trust. Lucy's acceptance and lack of judgement of Dami's past shows maturity beyond her years. He had some things in there that could have shocked and scared an innocent away. Lucy had to put up with an ex that just couldn't accept she was an ex. Lucy just wanted to know that she was his and now. Lucy's loving and caring spirit is endearing. She not only opened her heart to Dami but to her neighbors, which helped save a life. Lucy's honesty is breathtaking. When she told Dami she loved him but didn't know if she would able to have children because of her heart surgery. She laid it all on the line even though, Dami wasn't ready to hear any of it. Courage was needed to admit that to the man you love. Lucy's independence and ability to let Dami go showed her inner strength and self-esteem, even though, it broke her heart, she left with her dignity intact.
I loved how Dami took his time with Lucy preceding agreeing to make love to her. He started with a long date. Their passion is evident but he still takes it in steps. We should all be so lucky to have a first lover like Dami. Let's just say that scene is worth quite a few re-reads. It practically sizzles off the page. Ms. Rimmer definitely knows how to whet your appetite and keep you coming back for more. I loved that Dami was Lucy's hero, he didn't even know it. He darn sure didn't think he deserved to be a hero or worthy of her love. Dami doesn't even come to grips that he is in love with Lucy into a run in with an old flame. It finally hits him, Lucy is who I have loved for awhile now. How they work it all out? Well, you'll just have to read the book but as always Ms. Rimmer's characters are believable facing real life scenarios that endear them into our hearts. Even if it has been a little while since you were young and innocent or maybe your Dami wore a wife beater and had tattoo's, you will totally be ensnared by this duo. I would highly recommend this book. Christine Rimmer has done it again by capturing the allure of innocence and what blooms when a spark become flame and the embers burn even brighter.
Christine Rimmer Knocks It Out of the Park With This Wonderful Love Story!!
Wow...This is the best of The Bravo Royales series to date. A fabulous book that I could not put down until I finished the very last word. I adored Dami's and Lucy's story!
Damien is known as the Player Prince of Montedoro and he admittedly has played more women than he can count, many he can't even remember! His playboy lifestyle is notorious and an image that won't be easily shed. But lately he has decided that the lifestyle he has been living is growing old and he is ready to settle down. He has been celibate for three months and for Damien that is akin to three years.
Lucy Cordell has led a very sheltered life plagued with heart problems since her birth. Her brother Noah, who is extremely over protective, has worked very hard to build a fortune to pay for her medical care, keeping her alive until her 21st year when she had a brand new life changing surgery. Now at 23-years of age the doctors proclaim she is perfect health and can live a normal life, something that has eluded her since the day she was born. She has missed out on so much and is ready to experience it all. Lucy has had zero-nada-zilch experience with men and she is anxious to learn the art of lovemaking. She wants and needs help! Shedding her virginal persona is a must. Men can sense it a mile away.
Lucy and Dami met a couple of years ago when Dami was invited to Noah's home for a visit. Dami treated Lucy like a normal young woman and they have always maintained a close friendship. Damien has been the one to come to Lucy's rescue time after time and who better than Damien, the Player Prince, to school her in the art of seduction. Lucy shocks the pants off Dami (literally) and he fears if he complies with her plan it will end badly, leaving Lucy brokenhearted and their close friendship in tatters. Damien is shocked when he finds himself falling for this delightful young woman but he feels the need to protect her from himself and his reputation. Lucy has some serious realizations as well.
We all know that Lucy was an innocent virgin, but Dami was also a virgin when it came to love. It really kind of put them on equal footing. I highly recommend this book...you do not want to miss it!
Holiday Royale is the latest in Harlequin's The Bravo Royales miniseries. Like most Harlequin miniseries, the books in this series can be read in any order and work well even as standalone novels. Past characters are referenced or may make appearances, but they aren't super relevant to the current character's stories.
That being said, Holiday Royale is the story of Lucy Cordell who has been very ill most of her life with heart problems. She vacations to the fictional country of Montedoro (located somewhere in Europe) to spend time with her brother, Noah, and his in-laws who are Montedoro royalty. All her life Lucy has been treated like a child and she is still a virgin because most men won't take a chance on her, not wanting to break her heart. Lucy decides Prince Damien would be a great candidate for her first time and sets out to make that happen.
This book was okay for me. I am discovering that the few books involving fairy tale-esque stories and women falling in love with princes from fictional European countries, don't really keep my interest so much. I've never been into the whole Prince Charming thing. Also, the writing to me wasn't very engaging. I think it was a little overly cute and sweet for me, even for a Harlequin romance. The story just didn't have a lot of intrigue for me. It really has nothing to do with the author's writing or story development. Someone else would probably love this book, it's just I didn't make a personal connection with these particular characters or their lives.
Fell for Lucy earlier in the series. So great to see her chasing her happily ever after.
And really enjoyed getting to know Damien in this one too. Poor Playboy Prince, doesn't even know he's gone.
Love that Luce chooses her destiny and after a tough childhood and start as a young adult, continues to stay upbeat and positive. There's such an innocence to this woman, even though she's seen if not lived quite a bit in her 23 years.
Dami may have the rep, but where Luce is concerned, from day 1, his gold heart is wrapped in sterling character. He's so gentle and sweet to her. Even when he doesn't realize she's the sun that's gonna blot out all of the darkness in his life and soul.
But by golly, when he does get it... boy does he ever! Thank you V for helping him see reason. And the sweet seduction ... once he gives in to her awkwardly babbled request to learn from him.
And V, who is named Vesuvius? just proves his problem previously has been the company he kept.
Funny that big bro Noah gets all protective. ... 'cause none of his woman's brothers ever objected to his presence in her life. Nice to catch up and see them happy too.
Enjoyed the Thanksgiving traditions in Dami's home. The Thanksgiving fair was sweet, the gifts, treats and local folktales fabulous.
Christine Rimmer never disappoints! I absolutely loved Holiday Royale! Her Bravo series gets better with each story. The main characters Lucy and Damien were first introduced to us in How to Marry a Princess along with her controlling brother Noah and Damien’s sister Alice. Holiday Royale picks up with Lucy and Damien. Lucy, due to an illness that prevented her from having a normal childhood, convinces Damien to give her lessons in love. Holiday Royale is a heartfelt story which I read in one sitting. It is a standalone book and the back story is easy to follow. I would highly recommend it to all especially if you have read Ms. Rimmer’s earlier Bravo works. I would like to disclose that I received a copy of Holiday Royale in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Holiday Royale is a real romance story. Christine Rimmer never disappoints. Lucy has led a sheltered life and has no experiences with men, so she turns to Prince Damien knowing he will help her. She is very strong willed setting her mind to doing something, she will do so regardless of what it costs. Prince Damien reluctantly agrees to help her as he does not want her turning to just anyone to help her in turn getting hurt. In due course of helping Lucy, Damien starts to see Lucy in another way wondering who will help protect him from Lucy's vibrant personality, beauty, and love of life. Christine Rimmer is one of my favorite Special Editon authors and I highly recommend this latest book of hers. I found it hard to put down reading it in one sitting.
I just finished reading Holiday Royale. First chapter, I laughed so hard, my tea went flying out of my mouth. You have a heroine that has over come many many obstacles and still has a positive outlook in life and when she sets her mind to something, there is no stopping her. She tells off her over bearing protective brother, she sets herself up in NYC with the help of a friend and gets a good business started to support herself and then she aims for a Prince. I love love loved it.I love how Dami and Lucy are so real. My only complaint I got> I HAVE to WAIT til May for the next one...ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
Lucy Cordell in her life had always been sick, her brother Noah felt like he had to watch over her because he was her protective big brother. she had always had a crush on Damien who is the twin brother of Alex and brother of Noah wife Alice. but Lucy thought Damien had only saw her as a child in his eyes. but he saw there was more to her that meet the eye.. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone because I believe that person are meant to find the one to share their life with.. rather it be a royal or someone in a coffee shop... believe in the books...
Lucy asks Prince Dami an unusual request. One he didn't want to grant. Yet the more time Dami spends with Lucy, he begins to fall for her. So he grants her wish. Sometimes like Dami, it takes men time to realize they truly have found true love. Not just a fling but one whom they want to spend the rest of their life with. Lucy knew what she wanted in part but never realized her true heart until later. One of Christine's best ever. Dami would give up everything if need be for the right woman.
"TOP PICK! Rimmer's lighthearted romance is a joy. In this pseudo-Cinderella story, the nemesis of the adventurous heroine is illness, not wicked stepsisters; and her Prince Charming is the perfect royal playboy with the heart of gold. Rimmer's formal dialogue fits the characters and regal backdrop like a glass slipper. And the love scenes ignite". (RT Book Reviews, rated 4 1/2 stars)
I really enjoy the Bravo Royales series. Lucy and Damien were friends, that turned into lovers. What a fun story all the way around. Lucy finally is on her own taking care of herself after being a sickly child, having many surgeries. She is healthy and tries to make up for all the things she missed out on. Damien was reluctant to help, but Lucy was persuasive. A fun romantic book!
Okay, by far, my favorite female character in a novel in a long time! I wish I could be like Lucy and both tell it like it is and have such a pure love of life!!! I highly recommend this book and when you read it, imagine if you could have such a demeanor, life would be great!!
I loved this book! I read it in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down! I loved how authentic the characters felt and the dialogue/humor in the book. Christine Rimmer is one of my favorite Special Edition authors and I highly recommend this book!!
This was an easy read, but never completely grabbed me. I had to reevaluate this, because the more I thought about it, I realized how much I liked Lucy's positive attitude.
