This is a GoodRead! I was really unsure with the first several pages, but quickly I became captured by the story. The writing is pretty decent mostly throughout the book, but to be honest there are parts were I deem the writing a little mediocre. But during those moments it does not take away from the storyline which I throughly enjoyed.

I've been avoiding writing a review on this one. I feel like I'm writing a eulogy. This was not good. I hate that because I wanted it to be good so bad.
I felt like I was reading a story by a middle-school vampire fan. It's a basic vampire story. The villians' story is beyond basic. The main female character is a basic b... hold on... I had to catch myself. I'm glad that some people loved this. I want to see more black and brown characters in the fantasy world. This just wasnt for me.

This book seems to check all my favorite things:
* Black Heroine? Check!
* Sexy Vampire that's into her? Check!
*Love story with the two that's sizzling? Er...We'll get back to you here.
I'll be honest, I DNF'd this book at like before chapter ten. It was a problem to get through and really, for any book that uses the term 'Hard/Rock Love muscle' in ANY way stops me from taking it seriously. Especially, a book that's supposed to be romance with vampires. Literally my favorite thing to read in paranormal romance is that.
This book failed to keep me interested on multiple levels.
At first I liked the Heroine and I liked the idea of seeing the flashback as to how the hero became a vampire. But after that? It just got too much. There were too many flashbacks. The threat of another vampire group boiled down to " Lmao, you black, I'm white, lets take it to super racist place because Lols." <- you might not wanna quote me on this, but to be honest that's what I got from the book when the Hero ran into the villain and that's what their conversation boiled down to.
I think the thing that super annoyed me was not only the setup for why the Hero wants the Heroine (I can deal with the " you're super special, and don't fall for my vampiric charms! My Heart~! My interest!" )- but the thing that made me put the book down for real was the fact that being a queen vampire isn't that appealing at all. Muted version of her king's power? No thanks.
But that was personal taste for me, it's not a thing I would put in a book.
And you know, I would forgive all of that if it wasn't for the flashbacks and the fact it didn't feel like a book about the Heroine at all. It mostly felt like we were only or mostly looking through the hero's eyes and I just wasn't with that. I didn't need to know how he got, that female vampire, I didn't need to know anything else about his life except for how he turned and how he got hunted by the other group. That was it.
I just think this book was not for me. I can't stand the idea of not being equal on every level and the heat level for the book was tame and boring. I've seen better.

Boy I tell ya, you can't always trust the people closest to you when things don't go there way. Really good read but I knew it was gone be something with ol girl and ol boy.

This is my first book from this author and I really enjoyed it. I don't typically do a lot of vampire books, but I took a chance on this one and fell into it. Stina's writing is very vivid and believable, if I believed in vampires. I liked the character development and how I got to see each party's side. Definitely worth going on to the next book.

My hopes for this book may have been to high ,however I did enjoy it but I felt more like it was back in slave ear and not modern day. Although their love was real to them I have to say it felt fake to me the passion was all too real ,but no love could be that fast? Even for a romance type of book .

Y’all tripping in these comments. I’m not sure how many advocate readers you all are on vampire stories but I feel that this book is a typical vampire love story viewed from a black person’s perception. Just like every other vampire story rather it’s twilight, true blood or the house or night series, just the black version. I feel like y’all excepted wayyyy to much, calm down. The book is great, love scenes were very detailed (as well as accurate), and my favorite part was the history being prevailed in this book between the black race and white race. Honestly, if vampires were real, this is one of the most REALISTIC stories I’ve actually read. I’m just happy someone like me can actually read about a beautiful black queen vampire alongside her handsome, loc’d headed king without reading all these other vampire stories and imagine what it will be like for me to be one, as a black female.

This is the low budget version of True Blood. Kesh is a king of vampires who casually beds and kills women who don't meet his standards. Adirah had a lot of tragedy in her life and was easily diverted from her college ambitions. Her roommate Lina was a little creepy on the first meeting. The title shouldn't have been Love By Night as much as it could have been 'Getting Sidetracked by a Vampire'.
The ending was wimpy.

True to the end
I purchased this ebook because i love mystery and a good storyline. From the beginning to the end each chapter kept me reading; i can’t want to get part two and witness the outcome of Dira Kesh and the clan.

It was alright. I had high hopes after staring the second one not realizing there was a first. Stina, while by no means a poor author, did choose and repeat words and phrases a lot. I would have preferred some variations.
Plot wise I enjoyed it well enough. I don't really care for the reason between why the two clans are warring but I can accept that it has to do with the times and the fact that racism is still a thing.
There were a few times I was really dissapointed with Adirah, the heroine. She was this head strong independent woman at the beginning but by the end when she and Kesh were fully involved she felt as if she'd weakened and softened. I get that he's a King but I've never been a fan of a Queen *needing* to bow to her King because he is above her. It's a personal thing so I'm well aware that some will disagree.
I did buy this books and I kinda wish I'd've just checked it out at the library but they didn't actually have the first one available. I don't regret reading it and I am planning to read the second one. So we'll see if Stina has gotten some things more right. This was her first novel after all.

This was my first urban fiction book. I was so happy to find a paranormal romance. I found this to be a good story, but the falling in love happened a little too fast. Adirah went from not liking Kesh very much to going to bed with him so fast. And I get that alot of that was his blood influence on her when he saved her life, but it still comes off as too easy.
I think chapter 9 was my favorite chapter. Kesh finally lays everything out to her, and Adirah explores what abilities Kesh's blood gives her. This chapter is honestly reminiscent of the meadow scene chapter in Twilight and the chapter in Breaking Dawn when Bella wakes up.
The history the author gave to Kesh is heartbreaking and really connects him to the University. I don't think Kesh is my favorite character, but I respect his past experiences.
I look forward to reading the next book.

I push through finishing this book. The narration wasn't great and I found myself rolling my eyes at the main character a lot! The narration of Dera, Lena and Villa were so high pitched and annoying. I wouldn't reccomend this one.....

I’m not normally into things like vampires but Love by Night was awesome. I enjoyed it and I’m hoping to enjoy part 2 The nights Baby. Best of all both books were included in my Audible membership. 😜

I was feeling the story line in the beginning. I am still interested in the history behind the vampires and their clan rivalries. I feel silly for expecting Adira to go to college and actually get an educational experience. The timeline of events felt a little rushed, but since we're on vamp timing, I'll let it slide. If only Adira could've held out a little longer before fully caving in to the vampires.

Interesting read. Not sure if a 2nd book will happen, but if so I would definitely read it to see what Kesh and Adirah will be up against now since the baby has been born.

The book was good but the ending left me empty. What a cliffhanger. More could've been revealed if the heroine wasn't honking the hero so much.

Pretty good little read .. interesting how the author was able to go back in time without pulling you out of the story... definitely want to get the second book to finish up the story

I liked it for all the steamy romance and the mystery surrounding it. I've only recently started to get more into vampires, and this book had plenty of the gothicness surrounding the genre.

This was an exciting read. It was attention grabbing from the beginning. The story plot and use of historical undertones was definitely something that I enjoyed.
