On page 11 there is a Try This Exercise that is unculturally responsive. How can you say the American Civil War was fought over either slavery or economics?! When you're forcing another group of people to work for your sole benefit and even after their freedom America couldn't keep its promise of forty acres and a mule, you need to ask a prompt that is socially and culturally responsive not insulting to the ancestors of slave. Do better!
This is a book about teaching in bilingual classrooms. My one suggestion is that I wish it took a more global perspective - for example, by including more information on other countries' programs or the history of bilingual schools globally.
