My Mother's Child

Rate this book
Lyric Stokes lives, by most standards, a charmed life. Married to Michael Stokes, a prominent heart surgeon, she has financial security and lives in the lap of luxury. All is not perfect, though. Lyric feels inadequate because she gave birth to a daughter, rather than the son that her husband so desperately wanted. After an unexpected turn of events, Lyric discovers that she's pregnant again, but now she has to decide whether she even wants to keep the child she has longed for. Nigel Fredericks has a history of stalking women. He's been accused, but never convicted. Now he's set his sights on Lyric. She's at a low point in her life, and Nigel knows just how to take advantage of that vulnerability. Lyric's life is turned upside down; Nigel is like a cancer eating away at her mental stability, her marriage, and ultimately, her life. Will Michael reevaluate his priorities and his faith in time to save his family?

It was an okay read, quite predictable, and wasn't fond of the ending. However I loved the author's previous work called divorcing the devil.

I plan to read her other book available in the library I work in and purchased a copy.

Testimonies

Lyric Stokes is married to a prominent doctor. Blessed beyond her means, she is able to devote her time to charities, while seeing to the day to day of her household. What Lyric wants more then anything is to be able to have another child. Her daughter, Autumn, is awesome, but it would be nice to have more children around.

Unbeknownst to Lyric and her loved ones, she has become the object of affection to a serial stalker. R. Nigel Fredericks, an art dealer, has become a thorn to the Stokes family. What Lyric doesn’t know is that he has no plans of leaving her. When she becomes pregnant, his presence becomes more dangerous as he’s convinced that Lyric is in fact the one.

Even if you’ve never learned anything in your school Science classes, with shows like “CSI,” “Law & Order” and “Criminal Minds,” you’re able to grasp that most crimes are solved with the aid of science. I was disappointed to learn that in the case of Stokes vs. Fredericks, the same didn’t ring true. ‘My Mother’s Child’ has the potential to be an explosive and provoking read. Unfortunately, the story fails to dive into a deeper realm and really stays on the surface. Commendable is the fact that Dwan Abrams is able to make God’s voice a starring character. I didn’t realize that this was a sequel and I wonder if and what I missed. The story was just too nice and neat for my liking. Not a bad read, especially with the scriptures and lessons, just not persuasive enough for this reader.

Great book. This is the story of Michael and Lyric Stokes. Michael was a successful heart surgeon who took care of his family. Lyric was a bit lost because she did not have a sense of purpose. Lyric wanted to give her husband a son. After meeting Nigel Frederick; an art collector Lyric life changed. Lyric discovers that she’s pregnant. Michael and Lyric relationships is not want it should be, Michael is always working to provide for his family. Unconditional love is awesome.
