I loved this book! Really entertaining and interesting when you take the time to read through all of it. Great for new witches or just anyone wanting something a little different from the normal everyday novel.

A good introduction into witchcraft. It has a vague Wiccan twist, but the Wiccan comments are kept to a minimum enough to make this book on basic witchcraft and not Wicca - thank the Goddess. The layout and images used in the book was very well done, adding to the reading enjoyment. I would consider this a nice and short reference book.

Actual rating: 3.5 / 5 stars.

A lovely basic book (like a book of shadows) to teach you all the things you would want to know when it comes to witchcraft practices, such as tools (healing crystals, colour magic etc) spells, planetary magic and more.
It's like a brief, factual guide giving you the necessary head start to look further and learn more generally, as well as sparking an interest in a particular field. I like the little extra detailed information it gave you in regards to tarrot reading. I also like the numerology section which I'm shocked to say because numbers are not my forte but this I understood and found fascinating.
Being specifically interested in mythology, I loved learning about different deities you can find in various cultures, such as Norse, Egyptian etc. I knew a lot of these already but it's always nice to have the basics in one place.

I do find that it does linger a lot on the deities though, which is something I don't typically believe in or worship in that aspect (despite being fascianted with the actual mythological lore of gods and goddesses). It was difficult to see past this as, especially when it came to the section on spells (got to say I do like the explanation of the spells), it would heavily use phrases such as inviting a goddess in to grant you a power, etc. I personally believe in the power of the universe, energy, yourself, etc so putting it into a being like a goddess and reading about that a lot was something that was only very mildly irritating... no... irritating isn't even the word, but perhaps, unnatural for me.

Overall, as it gathers all the basics in a generalised BoS vibe, and is aesthetically stunning, I would say its great for beginners or those intrigued about the practice and wanting to know a bit more. It would have been nice to have a closing statement wrapping everything up, but regardless of that, it is still a handy book to flip back to for quick reference.

Pick it up, give it a go and enjoy! >(^_^)<

This book, unfortunately was quite a disappointment. The themes it often dipped into were just too strange and way too far-fetched even for a book of this subject. However, I'm still giving three stars because of the books' great design and some of the more informative chapters.

This is a great intro book, although at times it felt too simplified, and in other sections too detailed.

Really interesting book for new starters to the craft. Has some elements I have not seen in previous books with inclusion off different deities and, beginning spells. If your looking for a reference book with more of an artistic twist with colourful pages and imagery this book 100% does that. It’s definitely easy to read and understand yet each page is very inviting ascetically pretty.

Beautiful design, very basic information. I was not expecting something more accurate, it does its job of describing the basics of the subject, but in my opinion the practical spells section feels a bit shallow not having a strong theorical foundation, but I think the intention of publishing a book about witchcraft without concentrating on Wicca so that people from every creed can practice is good, even if I am really near to Wicca myself.
Maybe I would have given more space to the description of the various gods from different cultures because I find really hard to reduce each one of them to a bunch of attributes, but I understand that not everybody, expecially a starter, is interested in deeper themes of this kind.
An overall pleasant read to refresh your memory.

I probably wouldn't have bought this had I not flipped through it in person at the bookstore. Being quite familiar on the subject, it had little information that I hadn't previously come across. But the layout alone is the reason for my rating, it's beautiful!! I love how it looks like an actual Book of Shadows, or scrapbook, & the use of fonts & watermarks is intriguing. It touches on a variety of subjects, but is more of a crash-course for a newbie or 'just wondering' type. Very nice & didn't take long to finish.

I was so excited to read this book. Like, SO excited. And I enjoyed reading every page! The Witch’s Journal is the perfect book to get stuck into if you’re looking to teach yourself about witchcraft and spellcasting. The book is full with lots of images and notes which creates a very studios atmosphere and allows you to sink deep into the world of witchcraft. I really enjoyed the aesthetics of the book and how creatively all the information is portrayed to the reader. I always highly rate book (especially educational and informative books) that offer their information to their readers in a way that feels more interactive and interesting rather than just listing information like a Wikipedia page.
-
POSITIVES:
* lots of easy to understand information
* journal-esque aesthetic which is really fun and engaging to read through
* helpful contents that allows you to flip straight to the subject you need
* don't necessarily need to read in order - can just dip in and out whenever you feel like it!
* information that's detailed but not too heavily detailed that it takes you ages to read
* something for everyone
-
NEGATIVES:
* most of the information is aimed towards Wiccan witches - not many alterantive to spells for non-Wiccans
* felt as though there were a few things that weren't elaborated on enough

If you like formulaic ways to work with witchcraft/the universe, this is a good start.

It's a very this is this, and that is that kind of book. e.g. each day of the week has symbolic meanings/they represent this (and only this!).

If you're not sure where to start with spell-making and just want to get-going, pick this up.

It's an uber cute book with awesome graphics and easy to read information.

But, if you're more of a "I choose my own symbolic meanings for items", then please don't bother, this won't help with meditation, mindfulness, or actually the energetic intention side of things.

Simply a guide to what items/planets/days/etc mean what and a brief introduction to other things.

A very beautiful book with lots of aesthetically pleasing and interesting visuals. A good introduction to many topics surrounding Witchcraft but at a very basic level.

Unfortunately, it would have been better if this book was either much longer, or had covered less subjects at more detail. Currently, the information given doesn’t provide much more than a simple google search would.

Having said that, this book would be perfect for complete beginners who had never researched the subject or maybe for younger readers.

A decent little introduction/reference book. It covers a lot of the basics but doesn't go into a lot of detail due to the vast amount of topics covered in the book. Would have liked to see some reading recommendations or source references, but for the price and its intended use, I can't really fault it.

Un libro che descrive in modo sintetico ma preciso le varie pratiche di magia. Nella seconda parte una guida pratica che presenta molti semplici incantesimi da fare con oggetti d'uso quotidiano o facilmente reperibili! Davvero utile!

It a beautiful easy to read book but I wasn’t happy about promoting closed practices like smudging, promoting calling on deities from other cultures like Santeria to aid spell work when they usually involve blood sacrifices! And then there was a beauty spell for weight loss!
