Be inspired to love fully, embrace forgiveness, and live a life without regret in this heartwarming story of island life and the rich history of the Sosa family.
”Bueno” was my dad’s favorite saying. In its basic translation, it means “good.” But through him, it took on a new meaning; it was contentment, gratefulness for life, and love for his family and the beautiful island on which he lived. My Papí was a man of few words, but “Bueno” was always the one that counted.
Bueno is a collection of cherished memories of my childhood growing up on the island and all the things my Papí taught me. Without the distractions of modern-day technology, we were never bored with our made-up outdoor games and homemade toys, watching the stars every night, and eating authentic tostones. And Papi was always there, never holding grudges, forgiving us for anything we had done, and always ready to receive all nine of us with open arms.
Even in times of hardship and struggle in his youth, Papi still held onto forgiveness, kindness, and authenticity until the end. He never complained and helped others regardless of any wrongdoing.
The older I get, the more I want to be like him. I hope his story (and my family's story) inspires you to do the same.
