Don't believe all the hype. Sarah Ashwood isn't really a gladiator, a Highlander, a fencer, a skilled horsewoman, an archer, a magic wielder, or a martial arts expert. That's only in her mind. In real life, she's a genuine Okie from Muskogee, who grew up in the wooded hills outside the oldest town in Oklahoma, USA, and holds a B.A. in English from American Military University. She now lives (mostly) quietly at home with her husband and four children, where she tries to sneak in a daily run or workout to save her sanity and keep her mind fresh for her next story.

What an enjoyable read. This is a very short story, but full of good justice. I loved all the scheming and posturing that preceded the end of this book. Sarah Ashwood did a very good job of twisting words in this fun little fantasy. Evil scheming is not always going to a predictable ending.

This was a quick read that left me wanting to read a full-length book about Amana. I expected the book to be from her perspective, but she actually doesn't show up until later (not saying anything more to avoid spoilers). The narrator is a thoroughly unlikable king, which made the reading less pleasant, but I know why the author did it. Amana is super cool and I would so read more about her. *looks beseechingly at author* I got Throne of Glass vibes which is always a bonus. Check it out if you're looking for a fun fantasy read!
