I haven't read any poetry since the required reading during my school years. In light of that, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about From the Shadows. I sat down with From the Shadows this morning, and told myself I would just read a couple of poems while I was waiting for my husband to get off of the computer. That was not meant to be, however. As soon as I read the first poem, "Shadow Queen of the Sidhe" I was hooked and did not get up until I finished the entire book!

From the Shadows is organized into three sections and the poems in each section are all complementary to each other. Each poem tells a story in itself, and each poem fits with others in the section. The poems are powerful and haunting. I loved them all, but my favorites were "Madness" and "Sanctuary."

Just One Gripe:
I honestly can't think of one.

The Best Thing About This Book:
The poetry puts into words things that I feel.

Appropriate for a younger audience:
Yes

Score: 4.5 stars

I'm not familiar with poetry terminology so this review will be short and sweet. :)
What I can tell you is whether or not I liked a book. I certainly enjoyed E.J.'s collection of poetry. She has a wonderful way with words and is able to tell a whole story in just a few lines of poetry. I think that's the most important part of being a good poet, and it really shows talent.
I really enjoyed it and recommend that you check out "From The Shadows" and other upcoming titles!

I didn't like this one as much as Stevens other poetry book, "Shadows of Myth and Legend" but it was still very good. I don't read very much poetry so I really can't be a critic, but this type of Poetry is right up my alley, darkly paranormal and perhaps a little sad. If Stevens does more poetry books I will most likely read them as well. For me, a very Goodread! : )

As a writer, I hoped to enjoy this collection of poems, however, I didn't. Stevens' poetry is short, contrite, and boring. As a reader, I've heard these words before--again, and again, and again. Not my cup of tea--that's for sure.

Ok so as I said in the last review of E.J. poetry's not quite my thing, having said that, I loved this book, it was entertaining, each poem a little story from the cute to the macabre, but all kept my interest and kept me reading. I would recommend this one to anyone, not just poetry lovers,
