Billy C. Clark was an American author of 11 books and many poems and short stories, heavily influenced by his childhood growing up in poverty in Kentucky.
I found this book to be interesting because it is about a young girl's goal to be closer to her grandfather through her love for swimming. Jessica does not know but her grandfather was an exceptional swimmer back in his days. The bond with swimming creates a positive relationship between Jessica and her grandfather which was otherwise average. Her grandfather is about to die and Jessica struggles to find peace within her life and with her accepting the situation.
It took me a while to get into this book, and I'm not sure that I'll read it again either. But it was a good read about grief and loss and the young connecting with the elderly. heartfelt. But I've had enough grief in my life lately that I don't need the reminder.
