Cain Adams could put a bullet in a man’s skull and charm a woman into his bed all before lunch without thinking twice about it. He was a bad man and didn’t care about anyone but himself…until he met Julia Easton. She was damaged in her own way and made him see the thin veil between life and death. He wasn’t sure if his felonious deeds sealed his fate or if he’d get a chance to wash his hands clean from his sins. He was beyond repair and knew people like him only hurt the people around them. He should push her away from him and his twisted fairy tale. But he was selfish. He’d have her as unclean as he was by the time he was done with her. She never had a chance the moment he laid his icy blue eyes on her.
I obtained my formal training from life. I have a degree in General Smart Assery and I continue my education everyday with sarcasm and a pinch of humor. On a serious note, I've always considered myself a daydreamer. My mind often wonders to imaginary worlds with imaginary people who feel just as real as you and I. I never entertained the possibility of writing because, quite frankly, I never thought it was something I'd be good at. One day there was so much chatter between the characters in my head that I decided to write it all down just to get it out. One could say that's when the light bulb went off for me. It felt amazing to purge the stories from my bones. The more I write, the more I imagine. Cheesy? Yes. True? Absolutely.
I enjoyed this book and read it straight through. Cain(along with his identical twin brother, Abel) inherited a strip club (and some other not so legal business enterprises) from their deceased father. Cain runs it, Abel just flits around. Cain is a bad, bad boy. Like shoot'em between the eyes bad.
In walks Julia, a mousy dental hygienist, desperately in need of money to get out of the ghetto area she lives in. She's looking for a second job, doesn't want to expose herself by stripping so Cain hires her as the night janitor for the club. After she is attacked at home, Cain moves her into the club to live to keep her safe. Well, we can guess what's going to happen.
Cain is so deep into the evil that is his business, when he starts to see himself longing for a normal life with Julia he knows that it can never be. He could never keep her safe.
I loved the relationship between Abel and Julia. It started slowly (he had never been in love before) and developed into something pretty steamy. I did, however, have quite a problem with the end. It took quite a stretch of your imagination to make it work. I knew what was happening almost right away, I can't believe Julia didn't also.
Wow wow wow!!! Im rendered speechlees and totally left with a book hangover after finishing this story..........oh and anxious for a sequel!! Beautifully written and totally 100%believable I was sucked into this books world from the first page and stayed there for two days until I reached the last page and like I say came down with book hangover (honestly its a serious condition :) ) I cant get the story/characters out of my head and questions I have so many questions so was very pleased to stumble across Ms Delaneys facebook page and see plans for a second book!! Woooohooo made my week :)
This was a fantastic book. I've had it on my kindle for a long time and I'm so mad at myself for waiting so long before I picked it up. The characters were great. I like strong characters and Julia was strong female lead. Cain was a not a typical bad boy, well he kind of was, but not a jerk about it so that was nice. One part was pretty predictable but I still really enjoyed it.
