Another fantastic short story from this author! I love that we get a glimpse of the past, it puts the entire story in perspective and made for an enjoyable read. My only complaint is that the story needs to be longer. I love these characters and I would love to see what other situations they find themselves in, but I guess that is what book two is for. The author kept the story fast paced and entertaining, adding another gem to her library. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Pike Kinsley protects humans from the bad elements of the shifter community. His best friend’s sister has always been off limits. When a woman comes into their headquarters to become a member of their team the attraction just can’t be denied. Pike is about to get the one woman he’s always wanted his best friend’s sister. Pike’s Peak just may happen in more ways than one.
A short story by Mandy M. Roth Pike’s Peak is the first book in the League of Unnatural. Lives are in danger and change as two people find themselves working and becoming mates in this paranormal story. There’s danger, mystery and a sexual tension that can’t be denied. Pike’s Peak two people who have known each other their lives. The listener is taken on a danger, suspenseful ride into the paranormal world that protects humans. The author writes a story that does well as an audio book as well as the regular type. The narrator brings the characters to live as the story weaves it’s way to a end that will have the listeners wanting to come back for more of the author and narrator. A must for fans of both women and a great way to become familiar with a different series of a wonderful author. I’m looking forward to the next in series in any form possible.
Are you ready for a fast and steamy paranormal listen? Buckle in because you’re in for a ride! I consider this as a novella or a short story since it was a quick listen but Rebecca Cook nailed it! She did a wonderful job using a variety of tones and inflections to all of the scenes. Be sure to have some headphones on standby because the scenes are steamy!!
Adira was kick butt and innocence all in one package. Pike was cocky yet endearing. Together, they made me laugh. I liked the superhero aspect tied in to this story. I haven't read a supernatural/shifter story with that before, and I quite liked it.
There's creepy bad guys, and so much action, youll lose weight just reading about it lol. I really enjoyed this tale about Adira and Pike. There's sad bits and some parts youll laugh out loud.
A fast paced and enjoyable first book in the League of the Unnatural series. Short but sweet it sets the scene for future books. It has plenty of action and a good dose of romance! Rebecca Cook is one of my favourite narrators and she does this audio justice. Highly recommended.
Loved this short story! Sometimes you just want to read a story but can’t stay up all night to finish one. This is the perfect size for a late night start to finish read. A fun supernatural tale with quite a bit going on. This is a series I could definitely dig into.
I really enjoyed this first book in this series. Fast paced and a quick read, loved the characters and it definitely is a bit steamy! The narrator really did an amazing job making each character stand out and bringing the story to life. Looking forward to more!!
Cute book really to short. He is her brother's best friend but she is his mate but doesn't know it yet. When the council puts her into the league to fight he finally has to admit she is his.
This is a short story, but I must say, I've never come across such a short story that packs a punch in more ways than 1 like this does! (fanning self). Mandy has managed to get everything into this book, & it doesn't make it feel like it's too much or over the top. She gets background story, hot alpha males (more than 1), a sexy sultry female, fighting evil action, humour, & of course sexual encounter, all crammed in this little hot number.
Pike Kinsley is a wolf shifter who fights evil with his two best friends Adam & Lars for the League. He's been in love with Adam's baby sister Adria for a long time but keeps his feelings to himself cause 1) she too young & 2) Adam would probably kill him. So he lives his life by fighting the baddies & giving a Damn good scratch to the carnal itch with any woman every now again, until 1 night when the 1 woman he wants to claim offers herself to him, & what does he do? He runs!
Adria Shafer is Adam's baby sister & he's tried to protect her the best he can from his way of life, & doesn't want her to have anything to do with The League. Then 1 day years later, Lars brings her to the office, by the orders of the Tribunal, a group of 6 masked higher ranking members of the League who run the show. When she 1st walks in Pike doesn't recognize her, & all he & his wolf want to do is take this sexy as sin hellcat, rip off her catsuit & claim her. It's only when Adam comes in & zaps him with his power for suggesting such a thing to him, that Adria comes clean to Pike on who she is.
They both protest about her being there, thinking she can't protect herself, so the The Tribunal with their powers make her show what she can do by making her re-live a moment when she was at college & she needed to protect herself. Then the Tribunal makes her have to fight a whole load of evil to protect Pike otherwise he was gonna die, & that's when all feelings come out & into the open.
Not going to go into too much more as I've given away too many spoilers already, but like I said before it's got everything including the HEA. If you love to read Mandy's books, or you love PNR then your gonna love this, & best part you'd probably be able to read this in your dinner hour. This had me hooked from the very 1st page, & found I just couldn't put it down, I just needed to know what happened next, like with all of Mandy's books. If I could, I would give more than 5 stars.
This review is for: Pikes Peak (League of the Unnatural Book 1)
A great first book in this series. An action packed paranormal romance...what more could you want except... more...please!
I love Mandy Roth books and have read a lot of them. I originally bought this one in April 2012 along with the second book and devoured them in no time. This copy was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review and I was more than happy to read this terrific story again. I always hoped there would be more books in this series. I've given it 5 stars, something I very rarely do and usually reserve for the ones I'd rescue if the house was burning down.
Pike's Peak is book 1 in 'The League of The Unnatural' series and tells the story of Pike Kinsley, a wolf shifter who fights bad guys, is seen as a superhero by the rest of the population and desperately wants to forget the night he made the biggest mistake of his life.
Adira is the younger sister of his best friend, Adam, and she has always loved Pike, but what happened on her 18th Birthday hurt her very deeply and she left for college, only now, years later, has she returned home to be recruited into the League without the knowledge of either Pike or Adam. Only Lars, their other best friend, knows about it. I'll stop now so I don't give any spoilers, but it made me laugh.
This is a short story, but like all of Mandy's books, it packs a lot of information into a small space. I often think of them like the book version of the TARDIS, they appear small from the outside, but when you open the book and start to read, there's so much more than you think on the inside. This is a fast paced, action packed paranormal romance which covers the history, current situation and HEA of Pike and Adira as well as some information on the League and a plan for the future. It has everything from demons to superheroes, fighting and mayhem, angst and a HEA as well humour and some steam. What more could you want? I've read this book a few times and when I get to the end I always feel as though I've read a much longer book because there's so much in it. This really is a book you should read for yourselves.
HOLY HOTNESS BATMAN!! Who knew a short story (40 pgs or so) could be so damn funny and erotically charged at the same time?!? Okay, having been a fan of Mandy's for a few years now, I should know by now that if anyone can do it, Mandy can! And boy has she ever with this one! I absolutely loved Pike's Peak! Pike (Tall, dark and handsome didn’t do him justice) is your "typical" ladies man, could never tie himself to "only" one girl for life, or so he wants you to believe. And believe Adira does...until Fate steps in. What ensues is so frackin’ hilarious it'll make you wet yourself! Of course the wickedness will get you as well. Suffice it to say, you WILL be wet during & after reading this book! *naughty grin* This story is another prime example of just how diversely Mandy can write. No matter the subject, the length of the story, the depth or lightheartedness the subject is, Mandy will hook you, reel you in & keep you entertained from start to finish! I have read quite a few of her books and I have loved every! single! one! There is always a depth to the characters that makes them all so likable, you fall for the heroes, root for the gal to get her man all while enjoying whatever part(s) of their journey Mandy has chosen to share with us! I absolutely loved this book with one tiny exception! It was over way too quickly! So I read it twice. Don't get me wrong! It is a fantastic story, and yes, I am well aware that I say this with every single book of Mandy's, but the ending does come way too soon! I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Pike & Adira. But I blame Mandy for that! It's not my fault that she has been gifted with such phenomenal talent and that she keeps me so engrossed, ensconced, enthralled, mesmerized, etc. in the story that I NEVER want it to end! Regardless if you are reading a short story or a long one, or if it has vampires, shifters, demons, angels, all of them or none, Mandy can and will entertain you from start to finish! No wonder she is a NY TIMES & USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR! She is ALWAYS at the top of my list!
Pikes Peak is the first book in the League of the Unnatural Series by Mandy Roth. The League is an organization made up of supernaturals who are dedicated to protecting humans from evil. So far the league is made up of three good friends: Pike, Adam and Lars. Pike is a hot hunky wolf shifter who thoroughly enjoys battling the evil forces threatening mankind, and fighting alongside his best friends.
Adam has been protecting his baby sister Adira ever since their parents were killed in a car accident. Adira has been in love with Pike for years and despite the fact that he is her brothers best friend she decides to let him know her feelings on her 18th birthday. Surprised by Adira's advances Pike painfully acknowledges he must turn her away, she is much too young and Adam would be beyond angry. Adira is terribly hurt by the rejection. Adam sensing the danger Adira is in by being associated with the League sends her away to university.
Eight years have passed and when a stunningly beautiful woman shows up at League Headquarters Pike is beyond attracted to her. Surprised by his overwhelming need to claim and protect this woman Pike is shocked to learn the woman is Adira. She has returned an all grown up, kick ass woman with superpowers of her own. Lots of entertaining moments as Adira is determined to teach Pike a bit of a lesson, Adam having no idea how to handle his best friend/sister relationship and Lars' witty sarcastic comments.
Although this was a novella it was packed with a lot of action, sexy hotness and supernatural heroes. I would have liked the book being a bit longer, giving us further background into the characters, the League and its history and the Tribunal (the group that runs the League). This was definitely an enjoyable read, I hope to learn more about these superheroes in the sequels and read Adam and Lars' stories.
***A gifted copy was provided by the author for an honest review***** Wonderful short story about a guy named Pike Kinsley who really isn’t a guy-he’s a wolf shape shifter superhero. He fights evil with his friends Adam and Lars. They end up working for the awesome League. Think of like the Justice league from the marvel comics, this story has almost that kind of feel. Now, Adam has a little sister named Adira and Pike finds himself head over heels in love with her, He cannot act on that because she is younger than him and this is his friend’s little sister, not knowing that she is just as in love with him. Adam and Adira’s parents die in a car accident Adam has no choice but send his little sis, Adira away to school for her own safety and to protect her from the dangers of being hurt and /or killed due to his and Pike’s job and the evils battled. Pike had a chance to claim her when they had this moment but he let her go and then she was gone and Pike felt the loss keenly but suddenly a few years later, Ms. Adira was back. She comes to work for the League, unknown to Pike or her brother. She has other hidden gifts, some that her brother does not know she has. Pike immediately wants to claim her and mayhem erupts!!!!! This is a fantastic, quick introduction for this series. I really liked Pike and Adira. Their chemistry rocks the pages. I loved the secondary characters and even though the book is short, the pages are jam packed with flavor. I loved how you could feel the characters emotions come thru; and the sexual heat leaped right off the pages. I really enjoyed that occurring. I cannot WAIT to read Adam’s story next because it is going to be a heck of a ride. My Rating: 4.4 stars ****
This is a very short story set in a world were there are superheroes ( for lack of a better term). I love Marvel and DC Comics superheroes so this was right up my alley!!!!
Adira is the little sister of Adam, one of our heroes, and they are orphaned whilst she is still quite young. He and his best friend Pike and their friend Lars look after Adira. When he starts working for the Superhuman League, he realises that the bad guys could use her against him and he sends her off to boarding school. When she returns, aged 18, she and Pike have a moment and she is sure they are meant to be together. However Pike determines that she is too young to be tied to him for forever and leaves her. She goes off to college and does not see him for years.
She comes to work for a Superhuman League, unbeknownst to Pike or her brother. She has other hidden talents, some that her brother does not know she has. Pike instantly wants to claim her and mayhem commences!!!!!
This was a fast read, I read it in my lunch hour. As I've said I love this whole kind of world and I'm hoping the 2nd book in the series is just as fab!!!
This is a super short read, only 36 pages but Roth packs a lot into that space. This is the first in a series about a group called the League. It is made up of beings with supernatural powers that help protect mankind.
This story sets up the series and introduces the main characters. While most of the book is just one scene that feature all the characters, we are getting to know Pike and Adria the best. Pike is a shape shifter that has very protective instincts when it comes to his best friends sister, Adria. Adria has the ability to be a sexual lure to the opposite sex as well as some other gifts that would be a spoiler so you have to read this yourself to find out more. We also meet Adria’s brother Adam, whom the next book in the series is about as well as their last member of their team, Lars.
I enjoyed this book for what it was, a very short intro to the series. I will keep reading to see what happens next. The world that Roth created seemed very interesting to me and I would like to see where she goes from here.
Lovely short story about a boy named Pike who with his friends Adam and Lars grow up and work for a Superhuman League .However Adam one of his friends has a little sister Adira who Pike always a certain feelings for but being older and he could not act on them for she was to young and Adams sister. Adam and Adira parents die in a car accident Adam has no choice but send Adira away to school for he own protect from the dangers of being hurt or killed due to he's job and the evil he battled .Then on Adira's she came home for a while before heading of to college on the night of her eighteenth Birthday she was outside and alone with Pike things kind of heat up and the two kiss but before it goes any further Pike up and runs away leaving Adira feeling hurt and rejected as she goes of to College. Some time after an events happen that leave all fighting for their lives and true feeling to be revealed in it's wake.
Super short story that has lots of action!!! Pike and Adira have been in love with each other for years, but Pike thinks she is too young and Adira thinks Pike doesn't want her since he rejected her on her eighteenth birthday. Eight years later they meet again when Adira is invited to join The League, which is a group of "superheroes". The small group doesn't want her to join since she is the little sister to one member and like family to the others. Plus they think she is weak and that the only powers she has is the one of seduction which they are wrong and she has to prove it to them. This is the first in the series and the second book is already out, so I will be reading this one next and I can't wait for the others to find their HEA!
I received a copy of this book for a honest review..
I wanted more! This was an excellent story of Pike, a wolf shifter who is part of a league of heroes. Pike is too dense to know his own mate when he meets her. Adira has been crushing on Pike since he teased her as a small girl. Adira is out of the picture when Pike is strongly attracted to a mystery woman. He comes face to face with Adira again as they are quickly put to the test by the tribunal. Adira earns her spot as a member of the team during a session of hot action.
We are promised at least 2 other members will be joining the team. Hopefully they are the next story. The tribunal is also a mystery. There is a lot more to the League of the Unnatural and to the characters that we are introduced to. It was a quick fun read that had a lot of action and some steamy sex.
This is a very short read but it sure packs a punch! Adam, Pike and Lars have been friends since childhood and they work for the League. They are part of a group of supernaturals that have been tasked with protecting the world. Adira is Adam's little sister and has been in love with Pike since she was a young girl. She is sent off to a boarding school to keep her safe while the guys are off working with the League. 10 years has gone by and Adira is back in the picture. After being tested by the tribunal the sparks fly as Pike finally realizes that Adira is his mate.
Full of action and passion this was a smexy quick read and I can't wait to read Adam's story next!
*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Pike's Peak is a short, action packed love story. Maybe lust story is as accurate. Adira has loved Pike forever, but big brother Adam is very protective and Pike's best friend. He gave her up once, but when she is brought back into his life and in danger the wolf and man comes to terms. He wants and plans to claim her.
As a supernatural protector can his powers overcome both the evil they fight and the brother who protects her?
This is another Mandy Roth fun book with characters you will remember, and get to revisit in future books. Hang on and let's go.
I enjoy stumbling across that occasional short story that makes me burst out in fits of giggles. I'm lucky in that it happens frequently with Mandy Roth's stories. This particular story not only brought forth giggles but it reminded me of those comic books and Saturday morning superhero cartoons from my childhood...well, minus the sex of course. Adira and Pike's story is a blazingly fast read but it is fully developed so you aren't left "looking" for something more than the next story in the series. It's light-hearted and fun and a good, quick supernatural fix when it is needed.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I was provided a free copy of this story in return for an honest review.
I adored this story. I loved Pike. He was determined to protect Adira whether she wanted his protection or not. I loved that Adira was equally protective of Pike. They were both kick-ass characters who had a history that was hard for Pike to look past. But when Adira is in trouble his nature refuses to allow him to hide any longer. I thought Ms. Roth did a great job of conveying the passion and emotions both Adira and Pike were dealing with. Especially as this is a quick read. I loved the idea of the League and can't wait to see more of these superheroes find their happily ever after.
Ms. Roth has created yet another series that is fun, fast, and hot.
Pike is an evil-fighting werewolf who has been in love with Adira since she was young. When she was 18, she tried to seduce him, but he stopped himself just short of the act. Her brother, Adam, sent her away to school so that the enemy who was searching for her could not find her.
Now, ten years later, she has returned, a stunning woman that Pike does not recognize. Adam still wants to protect her from the world, but the Tribunal wants her to join his team to fight alongside
Hot sex, fights, and love make this an interesting story.
I found this to be a very interesting read. I thought the world that Roth created for the the league was awesome. I wish that it was longer. I found the characters to be fascinating and I am eager to read more about them, especially Pike and Adira. For many years Pike and Adira longed for each other, but stayed apart due to age and obligation. With Adira coming into her own, nothing could keep them apart. This book was hot, creative, and very well written. I think this series would make a fantastic movie.
Great Shorty! This is a great short story; this is the first book of the League of the Unnatural series by Mandy Roth. Pike is a wolf shapeshifter who has been fighting evil to save humans. When he sees Adira his best friends sister again he will stop at nothing to claim her. This book is a short story, and is a great read, it has romance, suspense, and shapeshifters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Mandy, super powers, fighting evil doers = a really good story. Adam, Pike, and Lars are best friends fighting evil for mankind. Pike seems to find the love of his life in one of the most unlikely of places and loses it before it can really get started. Adam’s little sister being asked to join an elite team of fighters seems out of place at first but soon becomes clear as to why she becomes important. This story was so fun and love filled. I can’t wait to see what will happen next between these crime fighters.
