Ancient Tide, a love story that is so beautiful, it refuses to die.

Ancient Tide is an amazing tapestry of words weaving together emotions of longing, fear, loss and an unending love-a love so strong, it refuses to die.

Ancient Tide, Simon Harding’s debut novel is brilliantly written. Mr. Harding executes his words beautifully and in such a poetic manner that I find him to be a literary genius and master of the English language. I found myself rereading many sentences to capture the simple nature of their poetic beauty. Not only is the story one that grabs your attention from the moment you open the book, but also this author writes with such ease that his words flow with a fluid freshness that paints a most lovely portrait for the reader to enjoy.

The reader finds that she knows the characters within a few chapters after they are introduced as their innermost thoughts and feelings are revealed concisely. This line from Ancient Tide is succinct and one that I have to smile and shake my head in amazement, as I reread it here. This one simple sentence from Ancient Tide encompasses a whirlwind of emotions. “Eventually the pregnant pause between them ran its full term and an image began to incubate inside James’ head demanding nurture.” “Wow!” was my response, the first time I read it and it is my same response today.

Not only does the reader get engrossed in the ease with which this author formulates and executes his words, but in the story itself. I found myself reading faster and faster the further I got into this book in order to find out what will happen next.

I had a torrid love affair with this book during my reading. And I am still in love. Ancient Tide sits proudly on my shelf with my favorite books from authors I admire. I highly recommend this novel to any reader or writer, especially those that love the English language. I am in awe of this writer’s abilities. Simon Harding is, simply put, a master.

A Great Summer Read

James and Lauren shared a love that neither life nor death, nor time could contain. The only thing that stood in the way of their happiness was an evil every bit as powerful as the love that bound them across the ages.

Simon Harding’s Ancient Tide is a fascinating book that hits the ground running and only picks up the pace as the story unfolds. The saga that covers over eight hundred years of history give the reader the opportunity to re-live a very special, if not supernatural love that spans many times, locations, and cultures.

James and Lauren must learn fast in order to understand the forces that have driven their lives and love generation after generation. I was kept in suspense right until the very end before learning whether or not the young couple have the courage, intelligence, and fortitude to defeat the evil that has kept them apart all these years…or, will once again fate close the door on them.

I am certainly not going to ruin it for you! I recommend this book as a great summer read whether you are at the beach, the mountains, or just on your couch at home.

It would be unfair of me to write a review of this book, seeing as I wrote it. And quite rightly you should take the 5 stars with a pinch of salt- after all, would I give myself anything less?

But it also seems unfair to leave the book unrated, when so many have read it to date and enjoyed it. So here is a selection of comments from readers:

"Simon, I just finished the book and it was amazing. I found myself racing to the end so I could find out what happened. What a fantastic mind to create such a brilliant story! I'm sure this is the start of s great career as an author"

"I took a chance on this book as you do with any first-time author, and boy am I glad I did! This book is an extremely good read. I just couldn't put it down! This is a gripping, compelling love story told over eight hundred years. But it's no romance, as you'll find out when you read it. I'm certainly not going to spoil the story for you"

"Fantastic read, what a brilliant story with a great little twist!"

"It was a fabulous book to read, Keep up the great and hard work Simon!"

Ancient Tide is about a love story that spans historical periods and up to the modern day. It is not my usual genre of book to read but I enjoyed it and cared what happened to the main characters. Good to read something by a new author and look forward to reading any of his work in the future.

Romeo and Juliet had nothing on this

I purchased this book thinking it was a YA and an ‘easy read’. I was delighted, then, to be drawn into greater depths of epic storytelling.
The story mostly follows our modern day lovers, dreaming of being together as their destiny guides them in their battle against malice, but is strengthened by the memories of all those that have gone before, each pair of lovers dreaming that same dream. That they will at last be together. This couple are determined that this time it will be different. They will live out their lives in blissful union.

I haven’t been a great reader of late, but I was captured by the story, the challenge, the hope that at last the couple’s love, that has endured for centuries, will be rewarded.
The writing draws you in with it’s immediacy and page-turning action. I had to know not only how it ended, but how the story would unfold.

I think the book is perfect for YA, but also anyone who enjoys being drawn into a unique tale of not only love, but of mystery and intrigue. There is a darkness to it too, so be prepared for a little murder on the side. And tragedy. Lots of tragedy.

I see the sequel is available, so I now have another good read to look forward to!

This was Simon Harding's first novel and I was not sure what to expect. I was amazed at the amount of detail and analogy used to describe characters, moments, feelings and places - it really took me into another visual experience, and I felt I was there in the story. I rollercoastered with the intense fear and passion felt by the characters throughout the tale, of which there was no shortage of either and finished with a thirst for what happens next... highly recommend!
