Autism affected Lisa, at a very tender age when her younger brother, Callum, was diagnosed with the condition. Lisa made it her life mission to make the world a little more bearable for families affected by Autism by her desire to run Hotels that cater to families affected by the disability. However, tragedies seemed bent on maiming her spirit by destroying the people she held dear in her life. Lisa was in her college years when her father perished in a trip to Paris. As though fate was not cruel enough, three years after the loss of her father, Lisa succumbed to a ruptured tumor which left her ambition of setting up a foundation for the Hotel Project in tatters. The denouement of the crippling events that plagued her life was an accident that left her fiance in a coma. Will Lisa overcome doubts sown by fiance's mother that she came from an inferior gene pool and was bad luck to anyone she comes into contact?
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this but the book description intrigued me and I wasn’t disappointed! The story is one of tragedy and love, our main character ‘Lisa’ is as tough as old boots, so if you enjoy reading a strong female lead then this might be a book to consider.
Lisa has suffered her fair share of sorrow and pain over the years and unfortunately for her there is much more to come. The characters are written well as is the story and I really enjoyed reading about Lisa’s past and present and how it has all made her the person she is.
There is a lot the reader can learn from reading this book and it’s one that I highly recommend to you all! I was rooting for Lisa all the way through!
I would like to thank the author for sending me a review copy of this book for free and I’d also like to wish him good luck for the future!
The author created an interesting cast of characters. First, you have Lisa, who is dedicated to her autistic brother Callum. Then, there’s Matt, the charmer and supporter. Then our side characters such as Christine and Darren that have layers to them. There is a potential mother-in-law from hell, someone grieving the loss of their spouse, and characters that crave to make the world a better place. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but let me just say this isn’t a typical love story. The characters actually face challenges and through those challenges show that they belong together. Surprises also pop up in this book. Overall, this was a great read!
The Veil is a romantic story at heart but includes so many other components. From loss to our main character learning how to deal and live with her autistic brother, which resonates with me having a family member who was diagnosed with this at a young age. Lisa leads the ensemble as they navigate tough choices and learn how to overcome their own issues. It took me some time to get into the story, but once I did, I found it to be an enjoyable read.
Interesting story but the beginning was a bit confusing I had to reread it in order to understand. And it was a bit boring how the author kept saying Lisa on every sentence instead of using she sometimes. But apart from that the storyline was interesting to read. I enjoyed it.
Beautifully written story. For anyone who has had a close connection with a special needs family member the description of daily living must be a relief to know that they are not alone.
Once I was able to get into the story I enjoyed it. There wasn’t much in what I expect from a love story until halfway through the book. I’m glad I didn’t give up on it.
An endearing love story. This story takes you on am emotional ride. The character developments were uncertain and refreshing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
