With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
3.5 Stars for Three Down the Aisle: Rose Cottage Sisters, Book 1 (audiobook) by Sherryl Woods read by Zura Johnson.
How long will it take Melanie to realize that Mike is the right guy for her. She thinks she’s only in town to restore her grandmother’s old house but it’s her heart that really needs restoration and the landscape designer and his daughter are the perfect people for the job.
This book dissapointed me quite a lot. I expected something like A Summer in Sonoma, but got plain, boring romance instead. There was basically no plot, no plot twist, no nothing. Just two people complaining all the time how they can't be together because they afraid they'll get dumped again. And Mike's friends were relly annoying, as well.
After a relationship-gone-wrong, Melanie D'Angelo is convinced by her three sisters to quit her job and "heal" at their grandmother's home, Rose Cottage. She leaves Boston and heads to the small community of Irvington, Virginia, with plans to fix up Grandma's old house. Her best intentions are to forget about the recent past and regroup.
Run-down and neglected, the 'Lindsey' cottage was a long-time dream of Stefan Mikelewski, aka Mike. It was a house he once tried to buy but the out-of-state owner had refused to part with. Both a handyman and landscaper, he was also a single dad. His six-year-old daughter had behavior issues because his ex-wife had been, unknowing to him, addicted to drugs. Jessica was the bright spot in his life but she required quite a bit of patience. She was unpredictable and he never knew when she was going to have one of her outbursts.
Mike thinks Melanie is trespassing when he rides by the abandoned house and sees some movement. He has mixed feelings about her presence in the cottage. And yes, there is a fair amount of friction between the two after they first meet.
Over the next few weeks, Mike and his daughter slowly tiptoe into Melanie's life. Neither are looking for a permanent relationship when all bets are suddenly off. Fairly predictable, this is about he-said, she-said, some denial regarding what they need and the final epiphany of their importance to each other. Fairly predictable, I liked it but not enough to continue with the series.
I thought that this was a super cute and sweet romance. I loved how Mike and Melanie became friends before lovers. They were really sweet together. I also love how Melanie was with Mike's daughter Jessie. It's a pretty short read, so the romance is quick. But I didn't mind, I actually found it quite believable. I definitely recommend this one. I look forward to the rest of the series.
When I procrastinate it is with fluff. Usually I like her books but this one? No real twists or much of a plot. A couple of holes too - like an attempt to start a plot that never got picked up and finished. Oy. At least it was a fast read.
3.5 stars This was a love story that’s a surprisingly easy read. The daughter’s emotional challenges are real but Sherryl Woods doesn’t let her overwhelm the story like it does overwhelm some of the characters. I keep leaning toward saying it’s a lite read but maybe I should say it’s an easy read. Everything doesn’t need drama.
Having spent a week up to my ears in my last paper for my class, I wanted a break. I knew Woods would give me what I want: romance with a little humor. I got exactly that.
I don't think I could have picked another book to read that was so different than my research project. Now back to my paper.
I was a bit disappointed, because I thought Sherryl writes like Nora Roberts and Susan Mallery, but she did not. She kept saying the same thing over and over. The book isn't too bad, but I gave it two stars .
So, I've enjoyed Woods's books before but the last three I read were terrible. Angel Mine was worse than this book and the Christmas Chesapeake Shores one, but the only reason I finished this one was it was evening, I had a bowl of popcorn, and I needed something to read. I had the whole series from the library and a few other of her books but after this one I took them all back.
Just like in Angel Mine and the Christmas book, the problems the main characters (Melanie and Mike) had were not enough to believably direct the actions they took, unless you were willing to write the hero and heroine off as ridiculous, self-absorbed, clueless dingbats. I was willing to do so after the millionth time that one of them repeated how horrible their past mistakes had been and how that meant they could NEVER have another relationship AGAIN!!! Ugh, stop it. If I decided that my first serious relationship was the template for all of them I'd be a miserable, lonely wreck right now. It's called "learning from experience," Mike and Melanie.
The chemistry between Melanie and Mike wasn't very believable, either; they just super-duper-super were hot for each other and that was that. Um, ok. I mean, I've felt that way before right away, certainly, but if I'd been writing about it I would have gotten into why I had that reaction a bit more than that I just did and everyone should buy it and also buy their incredibly hot sex. Even though she doesn't really get into that, either.
Also, her sisters were completely annoying, with the contradictory approaches of on the one hand: grilling her and him about their relationship and intentions and basically broadcasting that Melanie was a dumb twit who couldn't be trusted, and on the other hand telling her she just needed to go for it. If anyone ever talked to me or someone I was dating that way I would have decked them. Ashley was incredibly irritating and pushy and at one point when someone pointed that out she was all: Who, me? I'm totally normal! It's normal to treat other grown women like children and give a guy they have just begun a relationship with the fifth degree! It's also normal to assume that everyone, including this particular man, is lying all the time, but then push your sister into having an affair, anyway. Ugh. I know that Ashley's story in the series undoubtedly involves her realizing she isn't right all the time and so on, but I'm sure it will take 300 pages for her to figure that out, and she'll still be pushy and horrible by the end.
Finally, I guess I just don't like Woods's male characters. They are wishy-washy and don't really come through as other than emotional minefields that aren't worth trying to cross. She was worried that he would want his drug-addict ex-wife back, even though he clearly didn't and kept telling her that, and he was worried that if he ever had another relationship his special needs child would get hurt when that person decided to leave, which was 100% sure to happen, in his mind. I mean. This is just too much work. I enjoy complex characters and I don't mind complex problems that they have to figure out, but these are dumb problems that reasonable adults don't have, or don't make into huge, life-directing issues.

After she finds out her boyfriend is married with kids, Melaine is persuaded to go to their grandmother's home to recover. There she meets Mike, a divorced man with a child. He has covered the garden at Rose Cottage for some time. He helps Melaine plan to recover the garden and her life. Read and see how they both grow in their non relationship.
I thought this sounded like an interesting series but I had to give up on it not too far into the book. The beginning of it sounded a bit shallow and trite. But, what forced me to abandon it was the increasing talk of physical characteristics and physical attraction. I realized that the book was very likely going to places of which I do not approve and so, it was time to move on.
Can you ever go wrong with a Sherryl Woods story?! This is a sweet story involving heartbreak, drug destroying a Family, a young girl alone with her father. In steps another broken closed off hearted person and you have a love story!
She gives a clear NO. He takes that as a "challenge". Eww. The reason for the no from either party does not matter. Rape culture is not romantic. I was hoping to find a new author to enjoy. This was not that day.
After finding out her boyfriend, who is also a co-worker, is married with two kids, Melanie quits her job and moves to The Rose Cottage. The cottage was where her grandparents had lived and where the four sisters visited and loved. She decides to rehab the Cottage so it can be rented or sold.
It was a fast and fun read. I can't wait to read the next one in the series. It was fun to get a glimpse of the other sisters personalities. Sherryl woods is one of my favorite authors.
First book by this author for me. It was not a great book for me. It started out sweet then random descriptive sex scenes. Then back to celibacy. The ending was good but I don’t know worth the slog to get there. Could have been so much better.
Greitai perskaitoma istorija apie meilę, papildyta abiejų pusių emociniu bagažu ir istorijomis. Ir mažu trečiu asmeniu, kurio buvimas priduoda savų iššūkių ir savito žavesio.
