Eric Thompson’s wolf howl can ruin electronics and send aircraft tumbling from the sky. Considered dangerous even by his fellow Sazi, Eric has become a lone wolf, living in self-imposed isolation. Yet when the very foundations of Sazi life come under attack, Eric knows he must defend his fellow shapeshifters at any cost.
Attacked by a band of vicious Sazi, Holly Sanchez should have died. Instead, she survives, emerging as a powerful Sazi healer. Sent to return Eric to the Sazi world he rejected, Holly finds herself by his side as the lone wolf tracks the monster that is killing the Sazi. Holly soon realizes she must make a choice—between a Sazi life with Eric, and life as a “normal” human being. But first, she must survive long enough to make that choice—and she must save her people, and the world, from evil.
She spent seventeen years in the Denver metro area and now resides in Texas with a large dog and pet cats. Office work provided a living while she pursued the goal of becoming a novelist. Forming the partnership with Cathy Clamp was the catalyst that led to publication and the two have enjoyed a long and fruitful collaboration, with two series published within the Tor Paranormal Romance line: The Sazi, and the Kate Reilly/Thrall books. In addition they have authored stand-alone novels and participated in several anthologies. Working both as a team with Cathy and individually, Cie plans to be involved in writing novels for years to come.
A great book and an excellent romance. I was a little put out that Eric and Holly weren't as captivating in their romance as some of the other couples, but I did seriously enjoy the book.
C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp have written another addition to their TALES OF THE SAZI series. In the series, the Sazi are shapeshifters, and each person has their own powerful magic. SERPENT MOON is the story of Holly Sanchez and Eric Thompson. Eric possesses a wolf howl that can be devastating in the human world, so he has isolated himself from all. Holly Sanchez was the human offspring of Sazi parents. Ignored, mistreated, and abused by the Sazi in her parents' Pack, she came to hate them, and all that they stood for.
Until she was Changed, herself. And became one of the most powerful healers the Sazi possesses. Together her and Eric must track down the mastermind behind a Sazi massacre, stop the rebirth of a Sazi monster, and hopefully save both human and Sazi alike. And all while Holly battles her own heart.
While the Sazi do their part to keep themselves and the humans in balance, none of the characters that C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp write are perfect. They are all fallible, and most (especially the Wolven agents) are ruthless and brutal. It's really interesting to see the point of view Holly Sanchez, who doesn't see being Sazi as being powerful, but rather inhuman.
The plot line that has run through several of the books about the re-birth of Marduc, a Sazi monster, and the brewing war within the Sazi is brought to a sasifying conclusion. But, the story of Holly and Eric (and how he identifies her as his mate, even while she struggles with her hate of being Sazi) really shines in SERPENT MOON. 4/5 for plot
Holly Sanchez is mentioned in HOWLING MOON, one of the previous novels in the series. Her fear and hate of her parents' Pack, her subsequent Change by attack, and her distrust of Sazi men in general, really make her a rich character. Eric is multi-faceted too. He has lived in isolation for so long, and yet, Wolven has decided that now he would be useful as an Alpha. Both of their journeys toward acceptance of themselves and each other are key to bringing the strands of the story together. 4/5 for characters
Aside from COLD MOON RISING, SERPENT MOON tops my list of favorite books from this series. There are times when the point of view changes from Holly to Eric to Nasil (the evil Sazi that has precipitated the re-birth of Marduc). The language flows so smoothly between these changes, and yet still reflects the individual character. Even with the multiple plots and characters from other books, I was able to stay engaged. The language builds the suspense just right, and furthers the romance between Holly and Eric in a believable way. 4/5 for language
Bonus Cover Points: 3/5 The cover is pretty typical of paranormal romance in general, and the TALES OF THE SAZI series in particular (the moon, and Holly's face prominently displayed). I do like how the serpent is almost hidden within the red background color. While the snake is an important element in the book, its true purpose is cloaked and mysterious, which reflects its cover depiction.
Final Call: 12/15 Highly Recommend

As a whole I really enjoyed this series. it flowed well from book to book and the characters development was a joy and fun to watch- esp our very first guy Mob hit man assassin Tony.
Each book had it's own story with a villain to defeat. it also had its own mating to twist in. and in the mix ypu also learnt more about previous characters. Like Bobby and Asri were expecting a child and as a kimono dragon she was a fierce protector whilst even pregnant. Carmaine and his wife and mistress triangle were always referenced. And as Tony and Sue were meant to be dead - for a well known and respected assassin as Tony it was difficult to keep hidden at times.
To watch Raphael rise from second to Alpha in the boulder pack but to let it go because they wouldn't accept his mate who was a cat. racism even in the supernatural world.
However. As I realised that this was the last book, I kind of expected things to be answered...put to bed almost. But in fact the opposite. It can leave you with more questions...
but the book itself spent 80% at least to the build up.to this grand battle that if the good guys lost would wreak havoc upon earth.....within 4% of the book the battle was over. ....anti climatic? yeah totally. Even Ahmeds father Sargon got more coverage in battle than this ultimate sazi....
So I was saying about questions. ... I know there's going to be more but to start with .... ⭐what had caused the change in tonys wife? ? ⭐would lucas change back and what into? ⭐what about all the other people and snakes who had taken the mind controlling drug? withdrawls/lasting damage etc? ⭐ did Carmaine get better? did the baby come into the world ok? and did they carry on working as a three some? ⭐what about Fiona? Could the effects be changed on her? ⭐ who will now be Wolven? the ones they had picked were from necessity not thru choice? ⭐would Tatya stay with lucas if he doesn't either become a shifter or become an alfa? and would she accept him if his new form was a snake? ⭐who was ' bluetomcat'? ⭐who was the traitor/s that managed to do so much destruction crashing the comes system over the decades?
......you see what I mean. I really did love the series but there's some answers not quite answered and I really feel the ending to this was really anti climatic.. also Nasil 'escape'.again.....very climatic!!! I think I rolled my eyes. yes it's sweet he's gone back to his human lover but he's STILL OUT THERE. He may not cause a threat now but given time who knows....
This book arrived in a package from B&N yesterday. I pulled it out and started reading after work, and finished it last night. (Stayed up too late.) It's that good.
This was the "wrapup" book of a series, but it's not the end of Clamp & Adams's Sazi books from what it said in the opening acknowledgments. Just that it completes this story arc where the Sazi are fighting this horrible millennial monster quetzalcoatl creature.
The heroine is Holly from an earlier book (I almost gave her the last name of an author friend of mine, because I forgot it). She was the human friend of a woman who was "turned" into a jaguar shapeshifter, a human child in a werewolf family. Holly was attacked by a werewolf and "turned" in that book. This is the story of what happened to her later.
And there's a new wolf in her life, except he's not exactly new. She knew him when she was a teen, and still human. She and Eric have SkilZ that allow them to fight the monster, and there are bad people who aren't so terrible, and good people who've done bad things, and a honkin' lot of plot. Almost too much to do it justice, but the ladies do their darnedest. There was so much going on, it felt rushed in a lot of places, but it was still a fun read. (And I'd rather have things speeding along than plodding.)
I have heard Cathy say that C.T. comes up with all the ideas and she writes them down. They combined for a doozy here.
The romance this time was okay but really took a back seat to the background story in which an attack leaves the Sazi world in turmoil and the leaders are taken out of the picture. We finally find out why Charles kept Tony around and it was interesting to see how the Sazi leader/seer set things up in the past in order to give his people a future now. I also thought that the part of the story where the lead Holly, a 'turned' wolf who had grown up human in a shifter family, opens the eyes of a former pack leader to the mistreatment and neglect that the human family members suffer was good too.
On the whole Serpent Moon manages a really good build up to the finish of the story arc ending the serpent's scheme from the last few books, but the resolution is really quick. I suspect that the authors originally planned to draw the series out a few books more but this looks to be the last of the Sazi books as the author pair aren't on contract for anymore. It was nice of them to try and tie off the series instead of leaving us hanging.
Even though there's not a contract for more Sazi, Clamp & Adams still have a Tony short and are hoping to try to transition the Sazi to the Young Adult market. (Still doing romance but no steamy stuff.)
While I like these books and this book did close one plot line...I'm ready to feel "finished" with this series. I feel they never really bring everything full circle (yes they close the relationship plot of each particular book - but it's always done in abrupt manner with questions lingering). I haven't looked into it but I'm assuming there will be more in this series. I read a lot of series books and I am hesitate to keep going with these. I need closure that the authors never really bring to the table and after 8 books I don't know that I want to keep going down the path. I'm liking it to the TV show 'Lost'. How it just kept going, and going, giving you more plot twists, giving you some answers but that really just led to more questions...then left you hanging and unsatisfied.
All the behind the scenes maneuvering and bad guy build up all comes to a head in this book. We find out why certain people were saved when fate deemed otherwise, people were corrupted to help the bad guys and betray those that would protect them, and socially acceptable behaviors from the past were brought front and center. The Council and Wolfven can no longer ignore what has been going on around them and it is a fight for their very survival. During this life and death battle Holly runs into the man she had a crush on as a teen and those same sparks fly and she isn't sure what will happen with Eric or any of them at all.
Book 8 of the Sazi series where shapeshifters live hidden among humans. Sadly, this seem to be the last book in the series which I have truly enjoyed. This is the last book in the series and I am sad to say I was disappointed. For one thing, there were too many characters--most of the characters from the previous 7 books--and it was difficult to keep them all in line. The worst part was the ending. It wasn't wrapped up and deserperately left too many things unexplained. If there was another book to follow, I would presume the bits and pieces would be explained in the next book, but this was the last in the series and left me cratching my head, wondering how everything was completed.
While the Sazi were awesome, Tony was back, and so were the spiders and there was an awesome new big bad...this book was a fizzling end to an awesome series. I was saddened in a few ways by this book. The romance of the book was slapdash and kind of blah, the good guys were kind of annoying, and Holly was inconsistent. What could have been an epic battle was really kind of stilted and Tatya needed a bitchslap like no one's business.
I wish they could go back and redo this :( alas, it is not to be.
I have to tell ya Tatya needs to be put down, she's just mean. Eric and Holly first met when she was fifteen and he wanted her then, now reunited the wanting never stopped. She has to come to grips with being turned wolf after years of being abused by the Sazi and play their parts in the final chapter to save the Sazi from the great evil that wants to wipe out the Sazi.
Wolf and feline shifters, snakes, bears and raptors.
I do hope there will be more in this series.

Lots of checkin stuff with previous characters that I don't fully remember, but finishes up a longish story arc and does some interesting stuff about non-shapeshifters in relationship to shapeshifters in the same families and closed communities that I thought was well done.
Also plays a little with the "mate bond" stuff and that it may not be the magic solution to relationship issues.
The individual books in this series can be a little confusing as there are so many characters involved in each one but each has an individual couple at the core of the story. A good read but you do need to have read the other books in the series first.
characters Daphne and martin black, children peter and max, max's wife Jasmine sanchez, her brothers and sisters, Jake (maria), Iris (romant), Rose (dale Baray), Holly (eric matthew thompson) his parents Delilah and darrell thompson
This book was basically a continuation of the last one. There were so many loose ends. I am not sure I will read any more of this series if there are any. The story has just gone cold.
Last two books definitely fell down a bit on plot and endings..became a little disjointed and hard to follow. A little more connection to past needed I think.too rushed maybe?
