With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
Šioji dalis užkabino labiau nei pirmoji (Trise prie altoriaus). Kažkas buvo giliau, vienoj vietoj net pravirkau. Žodžiu, meilės istorija su savais iššūkiais.
Maggie runs away from Rick because she finds him too tempting and he's a player. A merry chase is joined, and then Maggie and Rick meet an elderly couple named Sally and Matthew. Married for over sixty years, they become the family that Rick never had, and become a model for the couple they want to become.
I always enjoy Sherryl Woods books. This was no exception. It's a good, quick romance though very predictable and even being predictable does not take away from the true heart of the book.
4.5 stars From the erose cottage sisters trilogy, this Maggie's and Rick's story. Will be re-reading the other two as oon as I can dig them out. A great series, good re-read after 4 or 5 years.
An easy and entertaining read with some very interesting and forceful characters. This series would be a fun holiday read with some definite emotional areas to tug at the heartstrings.
Author: Sherryl Woods First published: 2005 Length: ~3000 kindle locations Setting: Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. Contemporary. Sex: Infrequent. Not overly explicit, Hero: Photographer Heroine: Food magazine editor. Trigger: His mother was an alcoholic and some implication of child abuse.
“Did that mean this was nothing more than a game with him? The proverbial thrill of the chase? A tiny little flicker of conscience warned Rick that he shouldn’t be playing this game, not with Maggie, not unless he intended to follow through.” loc.3200
So basically, he’s an a**hole.
They sleep together, first day they meet. Have a sexual affair for a little while. He gets absorbed by his work, doesn’t contact her at all for a week. She goes “what the f***?!? I don’t need this. I’m getting involved and obsessed with someone who wants casual. I need some time out.” And heads off to Rose Cottage.
Meanwhile, he comes out of his work obsession to discover she’s taken off to parts unknown. He goes “What the f***?!? No one walks out on me!” And tracks her down (asking colleagues, family, friends).
Why? Because she’s the one for him? No. He doesn’t believe in long term.
Because he’s a crazy stalker with a massive ego and an overwhelming desire for hot sex.
No matter what she wants or says.
It doesn’t make sense.
The apple orchard was sweet but odd. But overall the relationship was… strange.
This story couldn't hold my interest. I thought the hero was sort of -- off -- and I'm not sure I would have believed anything he said to the heroine, no matter how sincere he thought he was. I don't think that was and author's intention in writing him.
Some of the dialogue was funny and light which was a nice breath of air and the setting was cozy, one I wouldn't mind visiting myself. But despite all this, I read only so much and don't think I'll finish it.
I'm sorry. Who would want a relationship with someone who slept with everyone they met? Does not bode well for monogamy 10 years down the road, not to mention, how many std's are we sharing??
