A great account of the tumultuous year in Russia. Thompson takes a balanced, impartial stance on the people and events of the year. Important context, dates, and are mentioned but overall the book remains high-level.

Dull even by textbook standards. Takes a moving event filled with big personalities and dramatic moments and renders them flaccid.
