“Liza understands that knitting, like yoga and meditation, can be a pathway to wellness, even more, so, when all three are combined.” - from Forward by Melanie Falic.
There were helpful bits sprinkled throughout, and I have adopted several of the stretches. But though the author often mentions doing things without judging ourselves, the tone of the book seems to judge those of us who don’t prioritize mindful knitting. As someone who doesn’t embrace the religious/spiritual aspects of yoga, big sections of this book were a miss for me.
You actually can judge this book based on the cover. It was cute and would’ve been a great essay/paper/article but it was kinda a stretch for a book. Very Instagram infographic coded. Nonetheless I did appreciate some of the yoga and knitting cross over examples. If you like knitting or yoga or, better yet, knitting and yoga then you might enjoy reading this. It was something cute and light to read and gave me a little motivation for actually doing some knitting and yoga.
I enjoyed reading this beautiful book and it It gave new meaning to my knitting projects. As a senior not able to do much yoga I found the yoga poses rather involved but I could understand the techniques behind them. The tricks in the knitting such as taking breaks between rows made a lot of sense to me. If you love yoga or knitting do take the time to read this book.
This was an interesting combination of yoga and knitting concepts. As someone with a solid yoga practice, it didn’t add much there. Definitely focused on the non-yogi. However, some of the ideas about slowing down and appreciating aspects of knitting with the same mental mindfulness gave me nuggets to consider for expanding my practice of both crafts!
10/28--I picked this up at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival and met Liza Laird and had my book signed. I have recently started doing yoga again and I thought this would be a lot of fun.
