Life is not much fun for Bree - school is a drag and nothing much happens at home on the Rockwell housing estate. That all changes when she finds two halves of an old locket, which together spell out a set of cryptic instructions. Now she is embroiled in a world of magic, mystery and danger.
I worked for many years as a Nursery Nurse specialising in literacy work in the Craigmillar area before returning to University to study for a BA in Community Education. I plan to return to University soon to study for a Professional Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching. Writing is my biggest passion, it's what I've always wanted to do. I have worked really hard to get this far and I am looking forward to pursuing a career in writing and promoting "Bree McCready.." Words are what make the world go round! Being a mum is the hardest job I have ever done but by far the most rewarding. I have lots of good friends but my two best friends are Beth and Caroline and we have known each other since we were babies. I don't know where I would be without them and my wonderful family who support me in everything I do. I love animals but especially like cats. Bree McCready has a cat called Bustopher and he one of my favourite characters in the book! I miss my old buddy Bonnie who died last year at the ripe old age of 17. I'll know when the time is right to get another cat but hope one day to have lots and lots wandering about my house (just like one of the characters in my book)!
I loved this book so much I thought that Bree was such a strong and relatable character to be with throughout the journey. I even got the book signed!! 🎀
Bree McCready wins an unusual prize - the Half-Heart Locket - in a school competition and finds herself whisked away on a series of amazing adventures. With her friends Honey and Sandy, she must follow the clues given in a mysterious, magical book, over the moon rainbow, in a non-stop race against time, to save the book, and the world, from the clutches of the evil Thalofedril.
A snappy, action-packed, fast-paced read. It's billed as a 9+ read and I was asked by my 13 year old daughter if she would like it, was it too 'young'? No, a quick lighter read for her maybe but still enjoyable. It's a marvelous story with breath-taking rooftop escapes, a montrous villain, kind hearted helpers along the way, tear-jerking moments, oh, and horses - what more could you want in a book.
For a book aimed at children, I was completely blown away! Why hasn't this taken off like those Harry Potter books?!
By the end of the book, I was completely smitten with Bree and her friends. I cannot wait to read the next installment, which luckily should be delivered to my door any day now!
