Al is a high-spirited 12-year-old with a close group of friends, all on the brink of their teen years. She lives with her mother in a small Alberta community and spends a month each summer with her father in Toronto. Out of the blue comes a court order insisting that she live with him for a whole year.
Al's strength of character is tested to the limits by her loneliness, her homesickness for her friends, and by the realities of life in a big city.
