Miralee Ferrell

Miralee Ferrell and her husband, Allen, live on eleven acres in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge in southern Washington State, where they love to garden, play with their dogs, take walks, and visit their grown children. She is also able to combine two other passions—horseback riding and spending time with her married daughter—since she lives nearby--and they often ride together on the wooded trails near their home.

Ironically, Miralee, now the author of over twenty books, with many more on the way, never had a burning desire to write—at least more than her own memoirs for her children. So she was shocked when God called her to start writing after she turned fifty. To Miralee, writing is a ministry that she hopes will impact hearts, and she anticipates how God will use each of her books to bless and change lives.

4/30/20: Reread five years after the first time...holds up well and still a 3.75. The romance part really is weak.

Original review:

Found another one I missed reviewing last year...

This one was more of a 3.75 for me. I enjoyed it but was not driven to finish, even sitting it down a couple times. I still finished in a couple days, though the romance was not really my thing; I dislike triangles of this sort. I'd decided early on who I wanted her with and got frustrated when it started looking like it wasn't going to work out.

My favorite part was the children. The two waifs stole my heart and kept it. They might be little rascals at times, but I loved them.

The wildfire was quite a feat of description! I cannot even imagine having to take refuge in a lake like that.

Oh, how I loved this story! Such a perfect blend of great characters, mystery, action, romance, faith, and just a hint of suspense. There was also a survival scene in there that really had my attention. It can be tricky when there are many different characters in different locations in a story, but the author used every interaction and description to weave everything together in way that made everyone and everything tie in perfectly together.

In the story, Margaret, is a young woman walking through a season of grief and loss, when a series of unexpected events alter the trajectory of her life. She gets swept up into not only an unsolved crime, but the lives of two orphans that she cannot help but immediately begin to care for. So much happens unexpectedly, she doesn't have time to process one event before it seems the next is taking place. Also, the two love interests vying for her attention had me rooting for one in particular throughout the whole story! I couldn't wait until the ending to find out who she would end up with!

This was my first book by this author, but I'm looking forward to reading more from her, as well as other authors who have contributed to this series.

When you are looking for a book if you want adventure, romance, suspense and to go through a whirlwind of emotions and indecision on your reader's opinions of a character... well then this is the book for you!

Through the story of Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon we are introduced to our protagonist Margaret (great name right? *wink*). Four years ago her father arranged things so that her betrothed though she changed her mind about him and left and she was convinced he left her knowing that she loved him. In these four long years she became angry with God and allowed a wedge to form as she just knew that God had told her he would take care of their relationship. Then along comes a man seemly interested in her, but he arrived simply because her father asked him to and as she starts to become curious, it seems that her betrothed has finally returned for her. Through out the book as I reader I did not know which one to love and which one to hate. I'm all about true love and only one true love. Miralee really had me going one way, then cheering another, then being frustrated at a certain character's behavior and wanting redemption there. I truly applaud the author here, because I had no idea how it would turn out and it could not have been better. (The only thing that I want now is a side line sequel finishing the other guys story... because I think there is potential there.)

Also within the pages of this book we have a different smaller story of strength in a twelve year old girl running from a painful past and protecting the unexpected. Every page had me hoping and praying for Samantha to get where she needed to be and I could not guess what her future should be. In the end, it was very appropriate and the kind of ending I crave and love.

Over all I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and as this was my second historical adventure from the Summerside Press Love Finds You in... series I am sold and cannot wait to get my hands on others. Also this was my first experience reading a story from author Miralee Ferrell and you better believe it will not be my last.

This is my first book written by Miralee Ferrell and it most definitely won't be my last. I loved the unique setting in the logging town of Bridal Veil, Oregon. The characters were interesting and deep with real feelings and struggles. The romance was intriguing and the story held lots of plot twists that will leave you guessing till the end. Throw in a town murder, some bad guys, and a woman's heart town between two men and you've got a great read. I was impressed with Ms. Ferrell's writing. Her words flowed with such ease over the pages that it was a pleasure to read.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Finding Love in Bridal Veil Oregon by Miralee Farrell is a really interesting book. I read this book way back when it first came out as Love Finds You in Bridal Veil Oregon, and loved it both times I read it. I also enjoyed the movie very much. The book and the movie are very different. The book is historical, in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s and the movie is contemporary romance. There are some thing that you can pick out in the movie relating to the book, but other than that I didn’t see a lot of resemblance. But the movie was very good and well worth your watching it.

I always would rather read a book thank watch a movie. Books have much more information. And I enjoyed Finding Love in Bridal Veil Oregon very much as well. The characters were well created and the story line flows well.

My heart went out to Margaret when her ex boyfriend shows up after leaving her and no word from him in four years. A lot of tension flying around and Margaret seems to be in the middle of it all. If you enjoy historical fiction you will love this one. And I encourage you to watch the movie as well.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Miralee Ferrell has captured my undying loyalty with her suspenseful plot of intrigue, romance, and redemption in Summerside's Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon. From its beautiful cover art to its extremely surprising ending, this book drew me right into the Northwest logging town at the turn of the century and into the hearts of her unforgettable characters.

The prologue sets conflict in motion as Margaret Garvey's well-meaning father sabotages her impending marriage to Nathaniel Cooper, making her think Nathaniel has left her without a word. Fast forward four years, and Mr. Garvey is on his deathbed, but expires before he can confess.

Enter handsome and faithful Andrew Browning, the young man Mr. Garvey had asked to look after Margaret before he died. Andrew's polite overtures leave Margaret wondering if he is merely fulfilling an obligation to her, or if he feels a personal connection. When Nathaniel comes back to Bridal Veil, she has enough emotions to sort through, but her life is about to become even more complicated with the arrival of a run-away brother and sister, and the coinciding murder of a neighbor.

Can she protect these orphans from accusations against them? Will she choose the right man? And will a secret buried in a box for four years tear apart her trust in men? The questions build in intensity as twist after turn kept me riding a logging flume of suspense to find out whodunnit, who wins the girl, and what is to become of the children. The last few pages had the most surprising and redemptive ending I have yet to read in fiction.

Ferrell creates a story that will captivate and transport to a story world full of sensory imagery, adventure and emotion and leave the reader with a deeply satisfying message of God's provision.

The story is a wonderful journey as Margaret settles into a small town as the teacher. Her heart was broken at one time, but she is trying to move forward and allow her heart to heal. I liked the backdrop of the quaint town and the historic time period of 1898. Margaret is kind hearted and still grieves the loss of her parents.

When two orphaned children show up on Margaret’s doorstep, her first reaction is shock but then her compassion welcomes them in. I enjoyed getting to know Sammie and Joel and how protective Sammie is of her brother. The story is filled with mystery as a man from the town is found dead. Suspicion is abound as several subjects are questioned. It was no surprise to me that the children would be on the list of possible suspects. After all, no one knows anything about them.

There is excitement in the town when an out of control fire threatens them. Men rush to do what they can but it is in God’s hands as the flames grow closer. I liked how the author illustrates how trusting God is important. Margaret has struggled with that for so long, but now she knows she needs to put her worries aside and let God take her doubts away.

The best part for me was reading about the relationship between Margaret and Andrew grow as they became protective of Sammie and Joel. The children are in danger but the town is there to make sure the right person has custody of them. The faith element is woven very nicely throughout the story and shows how faith and trust are important for each of us to have. I enjoyed the author’s notes at the end of the book. It gives readers an inside look at the history of Bridal Veil and the logging company.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

An AWESOME story! I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Miralee Farrell. A very well written story that kept me guessing throughout. There are two suitors fighting for Margaret's heart and it's hard to guess which one she'll chose for quite a bit of the book. The changing POVs telling the story was a very neat way to tell the story and set it apart from other books. I enjoyed the sub-plot with Samantha and her brother and the evil folks after them. The ending was perfect! I've read all the Love Finds You books released so far(my favorite new series) and this is definately a favorite along with Snowball Arkansas and Charm Ohio both of which are contemporary settings as opposed to this one which has a historical setting. If you enjoyed this book check out Miralee's other title in the series-Love Finds You in Last Chance California, it is an excellent read too!

"Hmmp. I've never been a fan of love-triangles, and boy did this book have them! There was way too many Point of Views (nine of them all at least once!) I did like all the talks about God, but the book seemed a bit slow and had way too much focus on the love-triangles."

*Main Content-
Mentions of a married man flirting with single ladies (Plus a note saying that a girl had to fight him off and barely escaped with her virtue); A detailed kiss and many not-detailed and barely-above-not-detailed kisses.

Well this book was definitely not what I was expecting! I mean that in a very good way. This had so much going on. Murder mystery, love triangle, runaway orphans and more! Its a story that definitely keeps you reading and engaged the whole time. I won't give anything away but I must say that it took me a bit to figure out which suitor I wanted her to end up with and I am glad my pick won out in the end!

The spiritual content of the book was on point. The them of learning to trust God especially when we don't understand why things happen that we think shouldn't was done in a great way. Miralee definitely presents her characters with realistic situations and feeling making them very believable especially in their beliefs.

I have watched the movie and it is completely different from the book but equally as good. So I definitely recommend both the book and the movie. Just know that the movie is a Contemporary Romance while the book is more Christian Historical Romance and has a strong Christian theme throughout it.

I received a copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Bridal Veil, Oregon in 1898, is a lumber community of caring and hard-working people. I enjoyed the main characters very much, especially Margaret who was struggling with the loss of her father and first love.

The story is about God's role in your life and how he knows best. Margaret's life takes a strange turn of events when her first love returns home after many years. Lots of suspense, drama and a time of forgiveness make this story a wonderful and uplifting, emotional read which I highly recommend.

She was only sixteen when Nathaniel Cooper shattered her world, leaving town without her after she agreed to elope with him. Four years later, Margaret Garvey is at long last beginning to open her heart to handsome, gentle Andrew Browning. But then Nathaniel returns to the small logging community of Bridal Veil, Oregon. His shocking revelation as to his reason for leaving could destroy Margaret's belief in everything--and everyone--she's ever trusted.

In the midst of a desperate soul-search, the young school teacher takes in two orphans on the run from an abusive foster parent. When circumstances point to one of her temporary charges as a suspect in the murder of a local man, Margaret's position in the community, along with her reputation, is challenged.

It's been awhile since she fully trusted God, but she finds at this time in her life that only He has the answers to all her questions. She waits and prays, determined to protect the orphaned children while painfully torn between the two men, whose reactions to her situation are in complete opposition. Then a raging firestorm threatens to destroy the town, and both of her suitors are in the thick of the danger. Somewhere in the midst of her pleas for their safety, Margaret sees what her heavenly Father had planned for her all along.

Miralee Ferrell opens a revealing window into historic Bridal Veil, Oregon and the workings of a turn-of-the-century logging community. Margaret Garvey's story is one of life's lessons painfully learned. It is a revealing look at the human inclination to resist God's gentle leading, as well as our tendency to allow our own clamoring needs and desires to override the still, soft whisper of His voice.

An interesting tale with a couple of genuine surprises for the reader. I enjoyed Love Finds You in Last Chance, California by this author, and she doesn't disappoint with this second contribution to the Love Finds You collection. She brings an entertaining story full of well-rounded characters, packs it with accurate geographical and historical detail, and then peppers in all the right ingredients to keep those pages turning long into the night.

It's a genuinely good book that lovers of Christian fiction won't want to miss.

The setting is Bridal Veil, Oregon, in the Columbia River Gorge, a place of great beauty but very rugged, rather remote, and full of its own challenges. The various subplots kept my interest running high throughout the book. The heroine lost her mother at a young age. Then she lost at least two others who were very important to her. Throughout the book, I sensed an undercurrent of her anxiety over losing anyone else who was dear to her, even when she wasn’t quite sure who they all were. There are so many situations common to the Old West that kept me turning pages. Two orphaned children (a thirteen-year-old girl and a fourteen-year-old boy, large for his age but mentally slow) have run away from a less than desirable custody arrangement and end up in her care. Having run away once, their first response to any potential threat is to run again. Our heroine has two men vying for her attention. If she allowed it, there might be two or three more. Toss in a murder, a major wind storm, a fire, and numerous other challenges along with a trace of romance and you have a recipe for a suspense-filled book. Interwoven within the various subplots is a continuing emphasis by the heroine to find and follow the will of God. Faith plays a major factor in her life and is an excellent example for all Christ-followers. She doesn’t get it right all the time but she keeps working towards doing what is right. I recommend the book without reservation.

I appreciate receiving a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

A murder mystery, a love triangle, company-town politics, and a pair of runaway orphans--you'll find all this and more in Miralee Ferrell's wonderful novel set against the backdrop of a turn-of-the-century logging community. Filled with rich details that include actual historic events and characters that are relateable, this story delivers.

True romance fans might find the multiple points of views for the two love interests in the story a bit disconcerting, as I did. Accustomed to only one hero's POV, it was difficult to know who to root for when we were taken inside both Nathaniel's and Andrew's heads. However, those who enjoy plot lines that keep you guessing until the end, will be delighted with the results. I was more than 3/4 of the way through the book before I could chose between the suitors.

The spiritual theme of learning to trust in God even when we don't understand why certain things happen is handled well. I particularly liked how Margaret continued to struggle with her ability to trust even after realizing her need to leave things in God's hands. So realistic to the struggles of real Christians.

Readers who enjoy Christian historical fiction with a dose of romance, suspense, and drama will find this a delightful read.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

Schoolteacher Margaret Garvey had her heart broken at the age of sixteen when her beau Nathaniel left town without her. Now, four years later, another tragedy befalls her, followed closely by the arrival of two young runaways in town. In seeking to shelter them, she finds herself in a precarious position, especially when a local man is found murdered. Her situation and her heart become more complicated when Nathaniel returns to town and begins competing with a local logger for her affections. With so many issues arising at once, can she look through the chaos and find God’s peace and plan for her life?

In this sweeping historical novel, Miralee Ferrell creates an exquisite story of love and adventure at the turn of the twentieth century. Craftily manipulating multiple storylines, she gathers them together flawlessly and believably to build an inspirational story that transcends time. With excitement, betrayal, loss, love, and faith, readers of “Finding Love in Bridal Veil, Oregon” will find something for every literary taste, while anticipation for the plot’s resolution will keep the pages turning to the very end.

This story contains not just one love story, but two. Now, the heroine must decide which one she will continue to her happily ever after. Will she go with her first love? Or will she follow the man who has recently stepped into her life in unexpected ways? There were several twists and turns that kept me wondering which one she would pick.
Enter a pair of orphans who show up on her doorstep. I adored the way the heroine cherished those children and showed them love and acceptance. But are the men in her life as accepting? Will they stand beside her in her decision to help these children?
You will find a few different sub-plots within this book. There were not so many that it overshadowed the main plot, but enough to keep your mind going and the pages turning. Runaway children, fire, death, a dog, abuse, love and forgiveness all integrate between these covers to culminate to a surprising ending.
A copy of this book was provided to me by the author in exchange for my honest review.

This was a good story and fairly well-paced. The writing was mature and there was some mystery to the plot. I enjoyed the characters and the tension, though the story was far from edgy. It did have a good message about real love versus the attraction of youth. I felt like the story was a bit too long, though, but it was still a great read. I loved that Margaret had to choose the right man. Nice conflict there because I honestly didn't know which way she was going to go myself. The part of the book about the mill pond and the fire made me think of Marlo Schalesky's story Veil of Fire. However, the year and the state were different, so it's obviously not the same historical event. The fire scenes were briskly paced and I felt the sense of peril the towns people must have experienced. I read this book fairly quickly, though I was sick in bed most of the time. It was a nice historical and I can see why it's popular. I recommend it.

I've really come to treasure the "Love Finds You" series of books and this one does not disappoint. Each book in the series is independent of the others, so no worries about reading them in order.

Love Finds You in Bridal Veil Oregon is set in a logging town in the 1800’s, yet it reads like it’s happening today. Margaret is a character that I instantly loved and honestly would love to swish my skirts right in her front door and sit down to her coffee and cookies.

In addition to the love triangle of her first love deserting her, then returning just as she is starting to think of another man, there is also the jilted suitor. When Miralee, the author, adds murder and two runaway children to the story it becomes a book that is very readable and one that I thought of during the day.

I particularly enjoyed the parts of the book where God is directly talking to Margaret’s young charge – and Margaret learns a bit about trust as well.

"Finding Love in Bridal Veil Oregon" by Miralee Ferrell is the 4th book in the (Women of the West) series. I haven't read the other 3 books in this series so I am going to say that each book could be a standalone! I want to read the other 3 books in the future!

This book has murder and love and orphan children. I really loved the ending! This is a good book but if you are experiencing sadness in your life, I caution you to wait till you are able to handle the sadness that is in this book, even if you aren't experiencing sadness at the time of reading, you might not be able to read this book at one setting! It really pulled at my heartstrings! But, yes I recommend the book and I might reread it after my own time of grieving is over.

I received a contemporary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

At sixteen, Margaret Garvey gave her heart to a man, but after promising to marry her, he left town and she never heard from him again. Trusting men hasn’t come easy since then, but four years later, she thinks she may have found the perfect man for her. Andrew is wonderful, but when she learns he harbors a secret, doubts start creeping in. And then Nathaniel returns, stirring up past feelings. What’s a woman to do? Can she trust her heart to make the right choice?

I loved this book. The logging community of Bridal Veil Falls, OR, is fascinating and the characters interesting. There are plenty of twists and turns that keep you guessing. I especially liked that you couldn’t tell which man Margaret would end up with until almost the end. Great job Ms. Ferrell!

I really enjoyed this story. Miralee conveyed the beauty of the area and her characters were well-drawn. I cared about what happened to Margaret Garvey and especially the two children, Joel and Sammie. Throw in a murder mystery and the story kept me turning the pages to see what happened. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a historical romance with an inspirational message.

What an amazing book!!! I love the fact that the book is based on religious romance, which are my ultimate favorite books. This book tells a complete story and could stand alone. It is part of the Love-Finds-You series by different Christian authors, but other than the array of unique places, there is no tie between the stories.

This story combines a little murder mystery, historical fiction and romance. A lot of the story revolves around Margaret's efforts to care for two scared and suspicious orphans running from an abusive foster family. Meanwhile the sheriff is trying to piece together the circumstances around the murder of a local man. The romance was subtle and involved two men trying to win the affection of Margaret.

I was surprised at the revelation of the murderer. There was at least one red herring which was a little too obvious to be likely. I can't remember any clues pointing to the guilty party.

Margaret is a selfless and giving young woman but she is hung up on not having anyone else control her life. She takes that so far as to be angry at actions by her late father who was really only trying to protect her. I liked that it wasn't obvious to which man she would turn, although especially later in the book, one started to stand out.

The is a Christian book. There isn't a lot of preaching. The one recurring theme is about trusting in God to care for his own. There is at least one situation where God seems to clearly intervene in that regard.

Mature themes: as far as sex, the only intimacy is one kiss. There are very oblique references to what were attempts to physically take advantage of at least one woman or girl. There is a reference to physical abuse of a child with mental disabilities. There is a devastating fire which is described in detail.

Will she make the right choice in the end?

It's been a long time since I've read one of Miralee Ferrell's novels but Finding Love In Bridal Veil, Oregon looked interesting and I was in the mood for a straightforward historical romance. Like Bridal Veil, Oregon, my own hometown was founded on logging, mining too, so that made it even more intriguing to me.

I went into Finding Love In Bridal Veil, Oregon assuming I knew roughly how the story would play out. In some ways, it did, but, Miralee Ferrell also threw in some real surprises for me. The real highlight for me was all of the historical details that she wove into the story. Though not overdone, the turn of the century logging terms and practices were both familiar and particularly interesting.

I'll be the first to admit that love triangles are really not my cup of tea but Miralee Ferrell took it, and her characters, in an unexpected direction that made all the difference. I even found myself gradually changing my mind about certain characters. Of course, along the way I did wind up with some favorite characters, well two to be exact. Young Sammie who listens to the still small voice of God, and old mule teamster Julius who is surprising well of wisdom.

Finding Love In Bridal Veil, Oregon is nice easy read. It's definitely a historical romance but there is also some danger and suspense to liven things up. The author's note at the end is really worth reading so make sure to not miss it. If you are into the genre you should check this one out....

Finding Love in Bridal Veil Oregon by Miralee Ferrell is Book 4 in the Women of the West series. I have not read the other books in this series, but I had no issues following along with this book.

Margaret Garvey is a Schoolteacher in a small quaint town, Bridal Veil, Oregon. Life hasn't always been good for her. 4yrs ago the man that she loved mysteriously left town. She has now given LOVE another chance after falling in love with Local Logger, Andrew. Just as mysteriously as he disappeared, Nathaniel mysteriously comes back to town. Margaret is surprised to hear a knock on her door and see 2 teenage runaways standing there. She agrees to take them in, unbeknownst to her that they may have been involved in a crime. The Town is struck with tragedy and it really throws Margaret's life into turmoil, as while as the Townspeople lives. Margaret finds herself in a quandary now that Nathaniel is back in town. Who will Margaret choose as her suitor? Will the town recover from the Tragedy?

WOW, this book is jam packed with Mystery, Romance and Adventure from the very beginning. I expected this book to be a Romance book, I wasn't expecting all the Mystery and Intrigue throughout, and I enjoyed all that also. Margaret is a strong woman who wants the best not only for her but those around her. I really LOVE how strong the Christian Faith and the Christian message of Trusting God is in this book. Many times we all want the control for life, but God's plans are greater then ours if we give him the control and TRUST God! WONDERFUL BOOK!
