I used this book to learn Chinese while in China. When I travel abroad I always used to want a good dictionary to understand my surroundings better. I'm not where I want to be yet with Chinese but I do recommend this book. There is an additional benefit of self defense with this book. It is a heavy brick that will beat away aggressive book thieves!
One of the few books I hate to leave behind when I travel. What if I suddenly can't remember the right tone for a character in the middle of the night? Better to be safe than sorry, I say.
Damn. I just wrote the review and it didn't save it... well, in short: Good dictionary, with IPA for English and Pinyin for Chinese. Quite useful and large, with many lexical info. That's all.
