A Spur Award Finalist In the old West, men got away with murder. This seemed the case in 1868 when railroad contractor Kane Kelly shot a boy and fled the territory. N. K. Boswell of the Rocky Mountain Detective Agency promises the boy’s family to bring the killer in. He finds his man soon enough. But to get him back, Boswell has to cross the flooded Missouri River and four hundred miles of open prairie with Kelly’s brother and a gang of toughs in pursuit.
Very neatly constructed. The tone is always so calm; the good guys are good(and smart); the bad guys are bad; it all comes right in the end. Very satisfying.
