What a tale! Alyssa Grimley has crafted here an excellent horror story. If you’re not really a fan of horror, that is understandable, but if you’ve wondered if there are any books out there for you that would be a suitable, safe introduction to the horror genre, this is a story for you.

Vivian is a teenage protagonist on summer vacation with her Dad, and they find themselves in an unlikely place: Galveston, Texas. There Vivian sees her father succumb to family history, and she must find a way to free him and herself from a curse that has haunted her family for generations. Two friends she makes there, Jules and Mort, help in her quest to free the Ortiz family from their hauntings.

You will find some familiar tropes well deployed in this story, but you will also find a fresh take on those tropes as well. It’s a little bit Pirates of the Caribbean, Supernatural, and Goonies. If you like any of those, you will enjoy this tale, I highly recommend it.

Cute middle-young horror. I had a bit of trouble visualizing the interior of the house, but I suppose that was purposeful in a way. I enjoyed this.

This story had great characters and a unique storyline that hooked me. Curses, a haunted house and creepy old ladies.... all the good stuff. I highly recommend it!
