Teatro: Il figlio naturale-ll padre di famiglia-È buono? È malvagio?

Da sempre interessato alla scena, il philosophe Diderot dedica parte della propria ricerca al teatro, su cui fa convergere elaborazione teorica e pratica di scrittura. Ambientate nel presente storico, in una realtà sociale borghese, con personaggi il cui comportamento è immediatamente riconducibile a ruoli e funzioni sociali, le tre commedie - "II figlio naturale", "Il padre di famiglia" e, più tardi, "È buono? È malvagio?" - vogliono mettere lo spettatore nella condizione di rispondere in modo attivo alle sollecitazioni teatrali. Realismo, rottura della separazione tra scena e pubblico creano un teatro-azione che non cristallizza la vita, ma riproduce la struttura dinamica delle sue tendenze e delle sue contraddizioni e s'identifica con il suo divenire.

About the author

Work on the Encyclopédie (1751-1772), supreme accomplishment of French philosopher and writer Denis Diderot, epitomized the spirit of thought of Enlightenment; he also wrote novels, plays, critical essays, and brilliant letters to a wide circle of friends and colleagues.

This artistic prominent persona served as best known co-founder, chief editor, and contributor.

He also contributed notably to literature with Jacques le fataliste et son maître (Jacques the Fatalist and his Master), which emulated Laurence Sterne in challenging conventions regarding structure and content, while also examining ideas about free will. Diderot also authored of the known dialogue, Le Neveu de Rameau (Rameau's Nephew), basis of many articles and sermons about consumer desire. His articles included many topics.

Diderot speculated on free will, held a completely materialistic view of the universe, and suggested that heredity determines all human behavior. He therefore warned his fellows against an overemphasis on mathematics and against the blind optimism that sees in the growth of physical knowledge an automatic social and human progress. He rejected the idea of progress. His opinion doomed the aim of progressing through technology to fail. He founded on experiment and the study of probabilities. He wrote several articles and supplements concerning gambling, mortality rates, and inoculation against smallpox. He discreetly but firmly refuted technical errors and personal positions of d'Alembert on probability.

Le commedie Il padre di famiglia e Il figlio naturale sono decisamente migliori di È buono? È malvagio? Però è anche vero che lo stesso Diderot non volle mai pubblicare l'ultima commedia...un motivo ci sarà stato. Comunque, lettura consigliata.

in realtà ho letto solo il padre di famiglia e il mio commento è che oltre ad avermi intrattenuta con questo drama familiare mi ha anche lasciato con l’amaro in bocca per l’uscita di scena del commendatore che è chiaramente il personaggio più interessante tra tutti

"Il padre di famiglia" non sarà tra i drammi europei più riusciti ma rimane una lucida analisi di come il matrimonio sia stato per quasi tutta la storia poco più di un contratto tra famiglie.
