The Feast: How to Serve Jesus in a Famished World

Rate this book
What if Jesus really meant the stuff he said? The Feast responds to our hunger for a holistic spirituality that is rooted in the Jesus Story. It invites us to pull up around the table and feast on the Scripture stories of God at work in the world. And it tells its own fresh tales of people who embody that Story in our world today passionate Christ-followers who are not afraid to do daring things with their lives. Josh tells of a God who asks us to rethink what it means to walk alongside neighbors and strangers. To imagine what it would be like for things on earth to be as they are in heaven.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Josh is the minister at our church, so I initially picked this title up to get "to know" him a little better. What a blessing! Josh is passionate speaker and that carries over into his writing as well. His writing is accessible without denying the intelligence of his readers. I love the imagery he uses about feasting on the word of God. He put into words many of the emotions I have long struggled with regarding "my" community of believers. Above almost all else, he is kind in is indictments and compassionate in his suggestions. A must read!

Great book for study groups. Josh is evangelical, but with a broad sense of God's purpose and grace. There is a nice study guide at the end, so groups are well equipped.

The basic theme is rooted in the title -- "The Feast." It is a reminder that our faith is rooted in a feast (the Lord's Supper) and that as we explore and live our faith we are partaking of that feast -- whether in study, prayer, or practices that include serving others. Full of stories and examples, we are drawn into the flow of Christian faith.

Fantastic book. Josh gives us great insight on the feast Jesus provides. A great companion read to Living Jesus by Randy Harris.
