The stars are entirely for the cover. My intention was to read then review each book as I figured out who the cover artist is but for the moment I enjoy the research and reading more than reviewing so I'm falling too far behind. Anyway this one is so fabulous and I can't find a copy to read on line so I'm giving myself a pass.

The artist here is Gerry Sevier, who is totally amazing, as is this cover with the lovely saturated colors and the adorable dog. There are a lot of animals that grace the covers of the Harlequins—less so with the Mills & Boons—but surprising not that many dogs.

I expect many things from Margaret Pargeter -- vicious, cruel heroes; irredeemable, abusive behavior; and a book hangover that requires vigorous use of brain bleach. I did not expect to be bored.

This was kind of fun in an odd way. He falls for her and it's obvious to the reader but not to her.

This heroine , Alexa, is really naive. The hero keeps on decieving her about his true id and she can never put two and two together. When I expected she was finally going to show some pride and self respect, her fear of getting raped by her boarders- humiliatingly- leads her to seek the heros protection. The hero is n't too unreasonable but he has a penchant for taking advantage of her loneliness and seems he only wants to seduce her. Nonetheless, i enjoyed their episodes together amidst the picturesque scottish background and the protagonists had affective chemistry appropriate for a harlequin. i liked the feel of the remote Scottish highlands as sketched by the author and there were some funny moments when the heroine doesnt suspect the heros true id as the enemy laird she suspects is trying to buy her out. Nice read in my opinion.

Maxwell was smart, she must be smarter!

Admittedly, Alexa arrived at the Scottish Highlands croft without much previous information. But she had heard about Fergus.

Fergus had helped her cousin Angus, who had left her his home. But the proud, vital man she met there bore no resemblance to the elderly transient she had imagined.

Unfortunately, she fell in love with him before she discovered who he really was - Maxwell, owner of nearby Glenaird, who wanted her land. He'd stop at nothing to get it!

Little did Alexa realize that her transient Fergus is actual a very distant cousin Maxwell and he wants the croft she inheritted. She comes to love him, even after learn of his deception as he watches over her as she tries to make a go of the remote croft as a bed and breakfast.

A nice story overall.
