I always knew this book was overkill for what I was after, but I have finally had to give up reading it as the book became evermore about the critic/analyst and not about the enthusiast. I’m glad I bought it and read most of it. I was mainly interested in Caedmon’s Song, and there was ample information about this ancient poem. As I said, the book is for experts or at least for students who want to be experts, and it seemed to me to be brilliantly done. It at any rate kept my interest for quite a while for a simple enthusiast.
I read as much of it as made sense to me.
