Slamdunked by Love ticks all the boxes of what I hope to find when I pick up a book from the Lovestruck imprint; a sweet, sexy, meet-cute romance with a great couple and an enjoyable easy-going story.

"I'm not interested in you. This is strictly a business proposition.

I found the first book in this series, Tell Me Something Good a great read so had no hesitation in picking this up. And Jamie Wesley has once again created a couple who give readers the chance to get to know them throughout their journey. There's nothing insta about radio-producer, Caitlin and NBA star, Brady; their relationship develops at a sound pace, brings sexual tension, humour and frustration, and as someone who has made no secret of being tired of the faux-mance trope, it made a welcome change.

description

This is a story of two people learning to trust and overcome past hurts and, with just enough angst simmering in the background, it's clear that it's not going to be plain sailing for Caitlin and Brady. I can't deny the story was a little predicable but nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read.

This book was so cute. The hero was really swoon-y but yet down-to-earth. The heroine was SO MUCH FUN. I wanted to be friends with her. I also really loved the character growth the author took her on. Hero is a famous NBA player, and I thought she dealt with that really well.

The banter was adorable. I could see what the H/h saw in each other and really believed in them as a couple with longevity.

"If all else fails, I have an arsenal of pirate jokes to break the ice."
"Pirate jokes?"
"Yes."
"Like what?" He crossed his arms across his chest.
"What's a pirate's favorite letter?"
His side-eye was epic. "Really? That's the best you got?"

"I bought you this." He held out a present. "I saw it in Target and couldn't resist."
She paused. "You go to Target?"
"Doesn't everybody?"

Good answer, Brady!

Super cute read. Highly recommend if you want something to put a smile on your face.

** I received an advanced readers copy from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!**

Slamdunked By Love is a super easy to read contemporary romance. It is one of those ones that can easily be finished in a day if time and life permit.

Caitlin is on a mission to get revenge on the father that left her mother when she was pregnant. Brady is on a mission to keep his nose clean and lead his team to victory. Circumstances put the two of them together where they realise that they may just be able to accomplish those goals with the help of each other. So begins a fake relationship where the lines don't take long to blur and things get complicated real quick. Brady's trust issues and Caitlin's secret threaten the budding relationship that they both never expected.

I really liked the characters in this book. I could really relate to Caitlin and I loved the fact that she was a fellow short girl. Some of her actions were questionable but I could understand where they were coming from. Brady was pretty easy to like too. Not only was he a sexy athlete but he was a true gentleman with Caitlin which had me swooning just a little. The chemistry between the two of them was undeniable and I was routing for them with every turn of the page. If sexy is your thing I can assure you that the heat gets turned all the way up and they set the pages on fire.

The plot was exactly what I would expect from this genre and quite entertaining. I am not a sports fan by any sense of the imagination but I enjoyed it as it related to this story. It made basketball a little more interesting to me. Wesley is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Slamdunked by Love is a super cute story. Caitlin is going to prove to the world that her deadbeat dad isn't the family guy he's pretending to be. He abandoned her pregnant mother years before, and she wants some revenge. A broken down car and a chance meeting with Brady, one of the players on the team her father coaches, puts a dent in her plans. The fake girlfriend act didn't ring true, but the chemistry between the protagonists, as well as the humorous banter, made this a page turner. Pack this in your beach bag; it's the perfect summer read.

4.5 stars, rounding down

This book was so good! I looooove a pretend relationship trope, so this was right up my alley. And I really love that the author made the big shot athlete hero into a sensitive and vulnerable man who is afraid of getting hurt. The only thing that put me off a bit was Caitlin’s original plan for how she was going to expose her father. It seemed out of character for her because she’s really loving and compassionate.

This is another delightful Lovestruck novel, with plenty of scheming that is bound to go wrong along the way!

Caitlin Monroe has discovered who her absentee father is and is on her way to confront him. He left her mother with a letter and a check when he learnt she was pregnant. Since then he’s moved on, been an NBA star and now coach, having a stellar reputation as a caring husband and father - but definitely not to Caitlin and her twin brother. Unfortunately her car breaks down and Brady Hudson comes to her rescue - the new NBA star on the team for which her father coach. Brady is determined to keep himself away from trouble in any form but the attraction between these two is explosive. You’ll need to read it yourself to discover why they decide to pretend to be in a relationship and what happens next.

Brady has serious trust issues which have a negative impact on his ability to have meaningful relationships with his team mates and others. Caitlin is pocket dynamite - vertically challenged but with a heart of gold and full of energy. Both have been hurt in the past and are reluctant to let their relationship progress. Together they help each other heal until deceptions are revealed and threaten their relationship.

The story is an easy read, well written, highly entertaining and with confrontations and complications throughout to keep the reader enthralled. You don’t need to be a basketball fan to enjoy being slam-dunked by this super romance, fantastic to escape into!

If you like your romance to have plenty of double entendres, funny dialogues, developing characters and, of course, a HEA look no further - this is a brilliantly crafted novel I have no hesitation in recommending to you!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.

This story started interesting and entertaining. But then, without any warning, the female character suddenly got dumber and dumber and I was SMDH left and right.

Not only did she decide to get involved into a "fake relationship" with an highly public figure she immediatly felt attracted to while going ahead with some stupid "revenge mission" because of her mommy & daddy issues, not only did she decided to use the guy she felt attracted to and who was nothing but honest with her to get back at his boss and, by extention, damage the reputation of the team and her fake boyfriend career, but she also decided to put her career in danger by publicly adding lies after lies regarding the said fake relationship and putting the matter even more under the public spotlight and she had her BFF get along into the whole plan.

So I just spend the rest of the story waiting for the proverbial shit to hit the fan, without much sympathy for 29 years old Caitlin who acted more like a teenager than like grown up she was supposed to be. Also, I can't enjoy a story where one character is being fooled for everybody but them to know. Fortunately, the thing didn't last too long, but still...It put a bad taste in my mouth for the last half of the story. At the end the big reveal wasn't even that dramatic. It just kind of fizzled out. A bit like Caitlin's brother who was there for a second and just disappeared. I am not too sure what his purpose in the story was. the whole ending felt a bit rushed.

A predictable and disappointing read. I give it 2 stars since it wasn't horrible per se, but still ...

I listened to the audiobook of course :) and I like the narrator.

The book starts out well - the characters have a wry sense of humor - they riff off each other nicely, won't let anyone get away with too much of their shit ...

The ~biggest complaint is Caitlin's ... TBH idiotic "revenge plot" ... like "hey if I blow up this man's life and throw my family into the spotlight my mom will be proud of me and love me!" O_o
Friend.
What? No.

Which also? Her mom ALREADY loves her.

I guess... like we're seeing this in the height of Caitlin's anger and emotions - but the book doesn't make it that clear, so it just leans much more heavily towards Caitlin being TSTL. It just ...
She's too nice to go through with it - which is good.

It annoyed me a LOT when she's JUST about to tell Brady about her plan - but of course he does shush her and cut her off so I get it - especially since it's something she didn't want to say anyway. But ... I KNEW it'd be there to create drama. And I was right.

Then again - very realistic. So.

I liked that Brady was actually a good guy - but grouchy - but ALSO that Brady grew cuz Caitlyn ... BUT that she also got something from him.
This was very much a "we're better together" couple/romance.
This premise jumped out to me most - and I liked it a lot - so much that I immediately started on book one - Caitlin's boss's book. :)

I can see myself re-reading this book too, and will definitely look for more by Jamie Wesley.

3.5 rounding up.

The beginning was a little too tropey to me, but I really liked how their relationship built. Plus, he’s a rich and famous basketball star but none of the romance is about how his money solves her problems BECAUSE IT DOESNT. Even when her old car breaks down, he asks if she needs money for a new one, and she’s like “nah, I’ve saved.” And then he gives her a lift to the Toyota dealership. And she’s super excited for her Toyota and he’s excited for her, even as he drives a Porsche. It’s so romantic and refreshing!

I would say this was about a 3.5 or 3.75, but I liked the series so much i figured i would round up instead of down. This book was a little tamer than the others which i actually really like it gave balance to the series. I like Jamie's writing, I like the story. She draws you in and you want to know more about there loves. I will say this book was a little repetitive with their issues but they were likable characters. Lol

"Slamdunked By Love" by Jamie Wesley is book two in the "One-on-One" series. Caitlin and Brady meet on the side of the road when Caitlin's car breaks down. Brady was on the way to a gala that Caitlin was on her way to also. Caitlin wanted to put the man that she found out is her father in his place and hold him accountable for leaving her mom as a single mother to twins. They decide to fake date each having something that they are using the other for. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes to read. Jamie did a very good job with this story and had me wanting to continue reading to see what happened next between Caitlin and Brady. My favorite scene was when Brady went to Caitlin's work to do an interview. This was a great sports book with wonderful characters, and the storyline was awesome.

Caitlin Monroe has discovered a long held secret about who her father is and is on her way to confront her secret, absentee father. He left her mother with a letter and a check when he found out her mom was pregnant with her and he moved on. Caitlin is hurt and wants answers; she wants to ruin the man who is her father. Her father is some huge NBA coach with a perfect reputation as being Mr. Perfect-perfect husband and perfect father -- but definitely not to Caitlin and her twin brother.
On her way there , her car breaks down and Brady Hudson stops to help her—the Brady Hudson- the new NBA star of the team her father coaches. If that doesn’t signal to Caitlin that something here is wrong, here is a good guy who is stopping to help her. Brady is so dogged in his pursuit to keep himself away from trouble –any type of trouble but when it comes to Caitlin, all bets are off.
The story has many twists and turns, including where they decide to pretend to be in a relationship –the whys behind that and how it evolved into a real relationship. See Brady himself has trust issues , so for him to help Caitlin –there is instant chemistry there . OH and the confrontations and the issues that arose after the fact, this will keep you glued to the book until the very end.

My rating: 4.5 stars ****

A long awaited confrontation. A surprise complication. I found this sport themed read to be a slam dunk and I don't even like basketball. Caitlin is looking for a little payback and ends up discovering that everything happens for a reason. I received an ARC of Slamdunked By Love in exchange for an honest review. Caitlin is a high voltage character. She plunges into situations before she has a chance to think her actions through. She is not a vindictive person but she has allowed her feelings of abandonment to rule her life. Hopefully she'll discover the error of her ways before it becomes too late. Jamie Wesley wrote a story that is an amusing look at learning to forgive as maturity takes hold.

I really loved this one!! It definitely has the "meet cute" feel of the Lovestruck line but it also has an amazing story too. Caitlin Monroe is on a mission to out the man that did her mother wrong all those years ago. He's some hotshot basketball coach now. Wonder what the fans will think when his story is made public. Getting involved with Brady Hudson is all kinds of wrong. Not only is he a basketball player (tops on her no dating list!), he plays for her sperm donor father. Using him to get info though would work well! Now to keep her heart out of the mix.

Definitely one I would recommend to everyone.

A sweet love story

Caitlin and Brady were a cute couple from the start; their chemistry was undeniable. The plot and character development as well as the story flow was done well and kept me wanting to read more. The love scenes were sweet and passionate...I felt their shared love for one another.

We Are VERY Deep -- August Reading Wrap Up || 9 books!

4.5 stars rounded up~

Alright, I really liked this and not just because it’s set in Dallas. Wesley just really killed it with the flirting and teasing and inside jokes between these two main characters. Their chemistry totally sold me and thank GOD the fake dating aspect of the story wasn’t drawn out and constantly used as a crutch to keep this couple apart.

I’m always a little hesitant that sports romances will have an alpha male hero and while I do think Brady came across that way at first, the more we saw of him revealed a very sweet and caring guy who’d been burned many times. Of course he was a bit infatuated with Caitlin when she wasn’t immediately wooed based on his NBA all star label, as is normal for these sorts of romances, but there was also substance behind his attraction as well. While Caitlin actually had very valid reasons to be wary of any sort of a relationship with a sports star, that again, just made this feel much more real when it could have been stereotypical so easily.

This was one of those books that genuinely convinced me of two people falling for each other and actually lasting after the story ends! Oh and the spice? Damn, three chilis, but I almost want to bump it to four because of that Skype sex 🥵

I was a little nervous that an external conflict was going to really explode in the third act and make it difficult to convince me of a reconciliation, but Wesley was really clever in how she wrapped up that aspect of the plot. I loved that each of these characters grew because of the impact of the other.

This was a really good read! I actually think I’ll go back and finish the series when I get a chance.

I listen to the audiobook version, and the narration was OK, but they really need to get both a male and female narrator. It began to feel robotic at certain parts in the book, and all the voices sounded pretty much alike, The lead Kaitlyn starts off dumb and just getting dumber and dumber. Brady is a good guy but his character could’ve been fleshed out more. I’m getting a feel of the other characters because I read the other two books first. Out of order. So it’s interesting hearing about them in this book. Elise, surprised me especially because her behavior in her story/book made her advances towards Brady an seem innocent pass. However, in this book, she’s an all out creep/predator and her behavior was weird. She’s a bird that played herself. She wouldn’t leave him alone when he clearly didn’t like her. The part where Kaitlyn and Brady are forced to kiss in front of everyone after his game is hella weird and creepy. Who forces people to kiss so others can watch? Other than that it’s cute so far very sexy.
Noelle and Katelyn’s radio show is pretty boring and all over the place structurally. What is actually about and what are they trying to accomplish? Also the fact that it’s a radio show and not a podcast is odd. A call in radio show feels dated. Also, Katelyn’s mom is mosey and annoying.
Katelyn and her dad is a mess. What she’s doing to her dad is understandable but very messy and immature. It’s a terrible decision. She needs therapy to work that out not a messy, stupid “expose”that nobody asked for. It would’ve not only affected her but also her mom and brother. It’s selfish and fucked up. She had no sense of self awareness. I wished her character was more mature and less annoying. Cute story though.

I purchased three audiobooks in a series called One-on-One written by Jamie Robinson narrated by Zuzu Robinson. First audiobook, "Tell Me Something Good" I loved due to opposites attracting and in this case Noelle and Tate were just what each other needed. I just finished audiobook "Slamdunked By Love". Caitlin Monroe and Brady Hudson were both hurt in the past and never healed. They both were living their lives trying to guard their heart so they wouldn't get hurt again and they were living a lie. Good thing they met and comforted each other so they could heal and experience joy and love. I loved that Noelle was in the second book. Now it's time to listen to the third audiobook, "The Deal with Love."

Slammed and dunked

The story was indeed a slamdunk, double dribble, and a hook shot into the net of good reads. I enjoyed this couple's relationship immensely. The bad boy ball player falling for the good girl radio producer. A nice idea, well executed in the storytelling.
