Raghubir Singh & Dayanita Singh: The Home and the World

Rate this book
This volume accompanies a traveling exhibition--curated by art historian and critic Deepak Ananth and supported by Hermès, Paris--of the work of two well-known but unrelated Indian photographers, Raghubir and Dayanita Singh. Raghubir Singh's photographs focus on the definitive Indian car, the Ambassador, which was modeled on the British Morris Oxford. In these oftentimes abstract photographs, shot mostly in the last years of Singh's life, the doors and windshields of the cars become the frames to the images. Dayanita Singh's work is taken from two recent Steidl books. In Go Away Closer , she considers opposites in presence and absence, reality and dreams, tradition and progress. Sent A Letter brings together eight of Singh's small photo journals of recent travels in India. Each book was made with a certain person in mind--whether they made the journey with her or were simply on her mind during her travels.
