Heh. The author apologizes in the end note for being too "serious" and not funny, but I thought this was the best installment by far! The plot makes sense, the pacing is spot on, there is character development, some information is revealed but not too much or in too abrupt a manner, and a new character is introduced (who hopefully will be more interesting than the last new character). Even the sex is sexy for once (it helps if both parties are conscious, I guess, at least that's my preference) and is relevant to the plot beyond the weak device that was introduced to include it in the first place.

Very angsty. And hot. Vald's despair, Havi's desire to protect his lover, a huge battle and Vald turning all demonic. Excellent! I also loved the short bonus story about Havi and Vald's first meeting. That was so incredibly cute!

Un tomo maravilloso. Después de caer en manos enemigas, Vald decide ir a por Halvir, pero las cosas se complican. Debiendo enfrentarse a él, Vald perderá el control cuando un suceso afecte a su estado anímico. Finalmente consiguen escapar y Vald comprende lo que siente por Havi.

Very little sex this time around which force me into actually following the plot that barely makes any sense. The villains continue to sound beyond dumb, it is obvious that they are there in order for us to see Vald struggle with his feelings for Havi and then try to save him. However, this series is addictive and I regarded as my guilty pleasure because Ayano just draws so very, very pretty and I ship Havi/Vald hardcore. They just look pretty.

Excellent! This volume was is the best of the series so far. The plot and artwork flowed seam lessly. More angst, more suspense and a blending of Vald dark side with his light side.

I do like when there are magic fights or sword fights and it’s not just porn set in a fantasy world. I also appreciate that Havi finally revealed to Val the truth when it comes to his “beast side”.
The sex scenes are always hot but the only thing that bothered me a bit is that the volume per se is too short.

Oh Vald, when you are in demon form, you need to come with a warning! Not only is demon Vald hot but he is also dangerous!
This book picks up with Havi in trouble and finds Rulca in bad shape. And Vald all sorts of confused. It is the mid point in the story and it's direction is solely in his hands. He has to face his own inner feelings and demons. A lot of forgiveness is needed all around in this volume and it kept me on edge as to how it would play out. And of course, wishing for more demon Vald. I can never get enough of those markings!
The terrific artwork continues in this volume. Still, I keep hoping for more story depth.

Yes-yes-yes. That is exactly what I was looking for picking up this series! Even a too-much-of-a-cliff-hanger doesn't bother too much, though this is due to the fact that I will be reading the next volume tomorrow :)

Book Review
Title: Crimson Spell Vol. 3 by Ayano Yamane
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, LGBT
Rating: 5 Stars
Volume 3 finally brings in the major plot over the comedy and smut elements of this series and it really increased my enjoyment level. Havi and Vald manage to escape from the demon with the help of their friends but they are left with both physically and mental scars of the encounter. Afterwards, Havi and Vald talk because Vald realises his own selfishness allowed Havi to weakened emotionally which was necessary for his brainwashing and he wants to repair their relationship but he can’t come to terms with the demon inside him.
Despite Havi and Vald sleeping together while Vald is completely in control he can’t lose sight of why he left his kingdom to begin with and he thinks that cutting Havi off is the best way. Vald also does something really stupid here and unlocks a magically sealed door freeing Rimris from his imprisonment. While he does seem to help them and look out for Vald we aren’t sure where his allegiance really lies right now. However, while Vald was out of control, Ruruka used up a lot of energy trying to save his friend and the only thing that can save him is the fruit given by a dragon. Marse tries to summon a dragon like he did before but another arrives in its place and agrees to take Vald to the fruit.
Rimris sensing something is up goes with them and the pair of them fall into a trap. This trap isn’t hard to escape but it hits home for Havi how reckless and thoughtless Vald is about Havi’s feelings even through he has claimed the same of Havi. In response, Havi decides to work for a local city as a sorcerer and seemingly abandons Vald on his journey to break the curse. Vald goes to extremes in order to speak with Havi and soon realises the error in his ways which ends up with them sleeping together again although it is Vald that initiates it this time which is real big up in his development. While it has started the repair of their relationship there is still a long way to go before they are back on even ground again.

The 3rd volume of this series is a little bit more serious than the previous one and have a bunch of action scenes. But it is still amazing and since I am a total fangirl, of course this is a 5 stars for me.
Halvir is still under the control of Gileh. Vald realize that it is his fault if the sorcerer was distracted. The prince does not want to fight him. When Halvi get stab, Vald turn into a powerful newer form of the best and start a demonic rampage. Rulca & Halrein manage to steal some of his magic to save Halvir.
Once turn back to normal, the prince confronts the sorcerer and finally find out what happen all those nights when he turns into a beast. Their relationship takes a new step when Vald accept his feelings. Those two are just so hot and passionate together!
A new character, Limris, is introduce near the end (not sure why but I don’t trust this guy!) and of course, cliffhanger!

April 28, 2025Este si que me lo he leído del tirón y no me ha costado casi nada. Ya se ve quién va a ser el ultimate villano y tiene sentido pero pereza.
Por otra parte pensaba que Vald iba a tardar más en enterarse de lo que había estado pasándole, pero ya lo sabe y accountability a el Havi? 0! Que sorpresa! Enfin, si le puede perdonar pues ea. Lo que si me ha gustado ha sido la historia extra de que se conocían de pequeños y no lo recuerdan!! That was cute. Ya para terminar, los nuevos personajes (nuevos no pq se introducen en los dos volúmenes anteriores but yk) me gustan almenos a nivel diseño y mi sexto sentido me dice que se liarán (esperemos!!).
pd: creo que voy a pausar más que dropear, pero no las tengo todas conmigo, a ver cuando traen los volúmenes restantes a la biblio y veo que hago.

Il volume è molto movimentato, mi sono piaciute tantissimo le scene d'azione che di fatto occupano tre quarti dell'albo. Tutto è, come sempre, disegnato meravigliosamente bene. La Maestra Yamane ha la manina magica quando si tratta di disegnare uomini bellissimi.
Grazie agli sforzi congiunti di Rulca e Halrein, si riesce a mettere in fuga i rapitori di Vald e a placare lo stesso principe, uscito di senno dopo aver quasi ucciso Havi. Dopo essere tornati entrambi senzienti, il principe e lo stregone ritrovano l'intesa dentro e fuori dal letto, ma la liberazione inattesa di un prigioniero e la sparizione di Rulca potrebbero minare l'alchimia ritrovata…
Grazie agli sforzi congiunti di Rulca e Halrein, si riesce a mettere in fuga i rapitori di Vald e a placare lo stesso principe, uscito di senno dopo aver quasi ucciso Havi. Havi sacrifices himself to help them escape the Black Sorcerer - luckily Halrien is able to syphon off some of Vald's energy to resurrect him. Havi and Vald finally become lovers with Vald in his Prince persona. There's also a super cute bonus story where we see that Havi and Vald have actually met before although Vald was disguised as a princess....
The artwork on this is just beautiful. Love the story, the supporting cast and the slow emotional build romance is perfectly balanced with sexy scenes. For those looking for fantasy based yaoi, this is at the top of its game.

A bit anticlimactic, given the build up in Volume 2. It might be me (I haven't gone back to compare), but the art felt a bit rushed, although there were still a few pages I flagged as having either a strong composition, interesting visual effect, or some other attribute. Some of the chapter title page art was also strong.
No worries - our favorite demon gets his rocks off with our favorite sorcerer. Hopefully, Volume 4 sets this series back on a stronger path.

Estuvo corto este volumen y la mayoría se centró en peleas, lo cual está bien porque demuestra la construcción de mundo, la magia no está de adorno.
Finalmente Havi le dijo a Val qué onda, cómo controla su lado demoníaco, por lo tanto ya hay consentimiento, bien por ellos.
Ahora, quien me preocupa es Ruruka porque se echó la chamba de pelear contra Val y eso lo dejó agotado y al borde de la muerte.

It’s hilarious how in the course of one volume I went from hatred and boredom to being fully invested and interested. The story is starting to really come together and that ending cliffhanger with poor Rulca in peril. He better come out of this ok. I think I care about him more than Vald and Halvir lol. Also the art is strikingly beautiful in this volume for some reason. Not a five star cause problematic stuff is still there(unfortunately).

Mi favorito hasta ahora. La historia mejora considerablemente, mejores diálogos, la trama esta mejor hilada y finalmente el sexo es consensual entre los protagonistas. Realmente no entiendo la idea de la autora de poner sexo no consensual cuando los personajes se sentian atraidos fisica y emocionalmente, por suerte eso ya se resolvio.

OMFG!!! THERE!!! So much happened !! Death, not death !! More power ups!! A half love confession!! Stubborness!! I just !! I fall more in love with Vald and Havi each chapter and their world!! It also seems like we are collections a group misfits... I think I smell some found family also forming!! My two favourite things: smut and found family !!!

This is easily my favorite yaoi series of all time. Minimal non-con (and only in the first two volumes) and a PLOT! An actual honest to god good plot! I love all the characters and can't help but compare it to Yona of the Dawn only with gay sexing :D

The relationship between Havi & Vald just keeps getting better!
I love seeing Vald grow bolder in professing his love for Havi and the progression of the transformation into the beast is speeding up. I’m definitely curious to see how this series ends!

I like that there is a predominant background story. The characters are all nice. The drawings are very detailed. Vald blushing is too cute. I also enjoyed the extra chapter with a revelation I hadn't expected.
