In Dream Big , you'll see the exciting things God can do through the life of a single individual totally committed to Him. Henrietta Mears had the courage and faith to dream big, and she inspired the people she touched to do the same.
This woman had impacted my life and I didn't even know it. Biographies aren't really my cup of tea but learning about "Teacher" was definitely worth the time.
This book was not what I expected, but I learned so much from the life of Henrietta! her passion for God's Word, honest prayer, making Godly leaders, love of knowing new cultures... are only a few things I so enjoyed reading about. I skipped a few pages here and there when the details were too much, but you can learn a lot about how to run a ministry and so much more from her life. I was also inspired to always seek to know God more intimately. In her 70s she was STILL seeking to walk closer with the Holy Spirit, wow!! Se followed Jesus with all she was until she went to be with Jesus
This book tells the story of Henrietta Mear’s remarkable life. While some parts of the writing are not engaging the story of her life certainly is. Having been to Forest Home the parts talking about that camp were exciting to me but it was also new information to me the sheer number of people she worked with and trained through her youth and children’s ministry.
I got bored with the story. She was an amazing woman with a huge influence but I got bored reading about Sunday School material. It feels like such a different area that parents would be flocking to a church that had an amazing Sunday School program. But I guess many parents do go to churches where they feel like their kids love it. Actually didn't finish it- just stopped reading
What an inspiring person!! What this woman accomplished in a life-time, inspiring Billy Graham, Jim Rayburn (Younglife), and Bill Bright (Campus Crusade) was just a fraction of her work!! Great guidelines for teaching Sunday school, which she called Christ's University!
Such an inspiring story of a woman who so wholeheartedly followed Christ in obedience and, in doing so, accomplished much for his kingdom. If you need some encouragement in your faith, this is a great read!
"What you can see accomplished here is only a fraction of what can be done in your city, if you will just believe in a God who can do the impossible."
"Your pupils are not bowls to be filled, but torches to be lighted."
"This is our supreme task as Christian educators; to gear youth into Christian service - regardless of what the specific occupation may be - and to encourage the utmost skill in the fulfillment of this service."
"Young people, I want you to think about what you are going to do with your lives. What are you living for? When you come to the last days God allows you on this earth, will you be satisfied?"
"You don't have results, because you don't take the time or make the effort to do anything about your teaching or to learn more about your students. I tell you truthfully that I have never seen a teacher who was willing to invest time and effort in his class who was not successful."
"Remember, lightning that strikes is accompanied by thunder. So faith that strikes is accompanied by life and testimony."
"If you place people in an atmosphere where they feel close to God and then challenge them with His Word, they will make decisions."
I had heard about Henrietta Mears here and there in reference to Forest Home and as a mentor to some great people, but other than that knew little about her life. Well - now I know. This is a serious and comprehensive biography about a serious and comprehensive woman of God. And seriously inspirational. I felt that the book was a little "clinical" and at the end I knew what Henrietta Mears accomplished, but less about her inner life.
The story left its mark, I could just never remember her name. Recently I came across her name & now I'm marking it so I'll be able to remember it should want to look her up.
An amazing woman who pioneered Sunday School, establishing classes for up to 6,000 persons in Hollywood - First Presbyterian. Later wrote material and pioneered the Gospel Light SS Publications.
