Nina, in the beginning of Stacy Ataree's Semya, is an unhappy high school senior stuck in an abusive relationship. Then she meets Sasha, a handsome and exciting Russian boy who helps her escape the misery and monotony of her life, taking her places she never thought possible.
But when she discovers he might be a criminal, she's forced to choose between him and the law.
This wasn't a bad read. The writing needs a tiny bit of work, but other than that, it moved along well. The problem is me. Yes, it's not you, it's me. I'm using that one. The book was just to paint by numbers and cliche for me in parts. Also, it started off really well. I liked the first 50 pages or so. I didn't even mind the instant attraction between Sasha and Nina because it was realistic and well done. I think my problem was that after as things unfolded from there, the plot just got in over it's head. There were just so many things going on that were completely over the top, in my opinion. I think if you enjoy stories where the romance is a little cliche and the plot throws a bit of everything your way, you'll enjoy this and give it a higher rating.
woah. action, fast pace, a lot of apparently hot-headed people (i never knew people to scream so early in a conversation), love beyond your dreams, crashimg realoty, and russian family.
