So với phần 1 thì không thua kém, tìm hiểu thêm 1 chút về cuộc đời của nhân vật thám tử. Cảm giác khá giống trinh thám cổ điển ấy, ban đầu vào đề hơi dài dòng, đọc 1 lúc vào nhịp thì sẽ quen. Ai thích hồi hộp nghẹt thở thì không hợp.

Any goodwill or early promise shown in the first book is quickly undone by this second installment, which feels offensively mediocre. It almost seems as if the author tried to imitate Hyouka this time and failed miserably. I notice a familiar pattern often seen in inexperienced or younger writers: they start with the intention of writing a detective story, but struggle to sustain it, gradually shifting into other genres mid-way. Here, the result is an awkward mix of generic high school slice-of-life elements, overly complicated cases, and setups that feel designed more for future installments than for a cohesive story.
To be fair, when the author focuses purely on the detective aspect, the cases are decent and competently constructed. However, solving them feels nearly impossible, largely because the author relies on the same trick repeatedly: the culprit executes a plan, something goes off-script, and their improvisation leads to a careless mistake that exposes them. As a fan of Agatha Christie, I find this kind of lazy, formulaic approach particularly frustrating, and unfortunately, this second book is full of it.
You get all the familiar elements: a closed setting recognizable to Japanese audiences, a random object that ties into the case, characters who exist solely to serve the mystery, repetitive dialogue, a bratty genius detective, incompetent police, and overly dramatic high school relationships filled with secrets. It feels recycled and uninspired.
One thing I can credit the author for is his extensive otaku knowledge. Throughout the book, he references numerous series that sound interesting enough to check out. However, it also gives the impression that the author is simply showcasing their fandom rather than integrating it meaningfully into the story, something any passionate fan could replicate by listing popular works.
The main character becomes even more irritating in this volume, despite the author attempting to deepen his backstory. New characters feel overly “anime-like,” further reinforcing comparisons to Hyouka. While the first book rushed its crime setup, this one has the opposite problem: the case unfolds too slowly, not because of careful buildup, but because the author inserts an entire slice-of-life subplot that barely connects to the mystery. On its own, the subplot would be fine, forgettable but harmless, yet when combined with a serious crime, it feels completely out of place.
The structure of the mystery is also repetitive. There’s usually only one murder, most characters are telling the truth, and the deduction process feels overly linear, as if the world only progresses when the protagonist acts. Side characters lack presence and don’t feel like real participants in the story. In the first book, I noted that the culprit could be guessed through profiling and motive alone. Here, that approach doesn’t work, not because the mystery is more complex, but because the motive is so poorly written. In fact, it’s one of the weakest and least convincing murder motivations I’ve encountered.
Overall, this second volume is a major disappointment. It makes me question whether I gave the author too much credit after the first book. This installment is genuinely weak, and at times even frustrating to read, especially since I had hoped to see improvement after the initial effort.

Quyển này mình thấy viết tốt hơn Phòng Thể Chất về cả chi tiết vụ án lẫn phương hướng phá án. Các nhân vật thì vẫn rơi vào trope đại trà của thám tử trung học Nhật Bản (& bạn bè của anh ta) quá nên đọc hơi ngấy. Plot twist cuối 9 điểm, trinh thám 8 điểm, các nhân vật 3 điểm. 😆

Nhiều chi tiết chỉ thám tử mới biết (như vụ giọt nước 3cm - thật khó tin là cảnh sát bỏ qua chi tiết đó) nên không hoàn toàn là dạng trinh thám cổ điển nữa.

白かったー！体育館の殺人の方が面白かったような気もするけど、裏染のバックグラウンドわかって面白かったから🙆♀️都会のトム＆ソーヤの創也を彷彿とさせるキャラ、いいねー！

天馬の謎解きが冴え渡ります。とても面白かったです。この著者が好きです。

地元の水族館で発生した殺人事件。これを高校生探偵が解決する。探偵役の裏染天馬が活躍するシリーズの第2弾。本格推理小説ということで、読みながら自分も謎解きに参加できる。ある程度まで犯人やトリックの目星はつくものの、決定的な推理はできない（自分だけ？）。登場人物（被疑者）が多いので、アリバイが成立しているかどうかも分かりずらく、要所で天馬がさりげなく整理するのは読者サービスのひとつなのかもしれない。全体的に軽いトーンで話が進み、でも推理は本格で、そのギャップが面白い。
